PIERRE BERNARD  Thanks for the feedback.

1. Aperture integration will be vastly improved in HoudahGeo 2.0. We are only days away from releasing this free upgrade.

2. HoudahGeo does perform time based extrapolation between track points. HoudahGeo 2.0 will let you adjust limits applied to extrapolation. Excessive extrapolation may result in nonsensical values.

PIERRE BERNARD  1) Feel free to contact customer support for a temporary trial license

2) I am not aware of any problem with saving searches. HoudahSpot however does have its own file format for saved searches which provides numerous advantages over what the Finder can do. E.g. use as templates.

3) Please do send in crash reports. Those really help locating issues. So far no beta tester nor user has reported a single crash.

4) Feedback is always welcome. Please contact customer support with your suggestions.

5) Guess that's a matter of taste. FileSpot does not provide nearly the same feature set, flexibility or level of customizability. Some might prefer that approach.

PIERRE BERNARD  We too feel that HoudahSpot 1.5.1 has left much room for improvement. So much actually, that HoudahSpot 2 is a complete rewrite. It shares very little with previous versions.

It is not that Leopard requires "special development". The thing is that Leopard includes many features which developers previously had to write themselves.

For HoudahSpot, this is the query editor ("what..."). The one in HoudahSpot 1.x took 6 months to develop and still is not prefect. The one in HoudahSpot 2.x is provided by Leopard. Not only this means less work and more time to spend on essential feature, I also brings an improved user experience as such editors will now standardize across all Mac applications.

Leopard is probably the biggest OS update Apple has ever delivered (or par with Tiger). For this reason, you will see more and more applications which require Leopard. At $129 there is no reason not to upgrade.

PIERRE BERNARD  The current preview window already uses QuickLook technology. HoudahSpot 2.1 (free update) will use the actual QuickLook window.

It will bring many more jaw-dropping enhancements!

PIERRE BERNARD  The reason this application exists is that I gifted my mother a Wintec WBT-201 for her birthday. The idea was that she could geocode her photos using Google Earth.

Then she said: what if I don't have photos? I just want to see where I went.

Thus arrised the need to be able to create plain KML files.

Turns out GPSBabel is good at that. All it needed was a decent UI. I hope I was able to provide that to my mother. And I gladly share it with all of you.

Please support the GPSBabel project.

PIERRE BERNARD  HoudahGPS is merely a front end to GPSBabel. Please refer to the GPSBabel documentation for a list of supported devices.

I couldn't test it with all devices out there, but many people use GPSBabel with great success. The catch is that in order to get Wintec compatibility, I had to resort to a beta version of GPSBabel. This appears to have problems with Garmin devices that I was not aware of when releasing.

You might want to swap out the bundled version of GPSBabel for the latest stable version. Or you could wait for the next version of GPSBabel. When that is released I will issue an update to HoudahGPS.

HoudahGPS was never meant as a competition to LoadMyTracks. LMT is excellent software which I like a lot. It does however not support the Wintec devices. Conversely it supports many devices which GPSBabel does not support. Use what suits your needs. It's free after all.

PIERRE BERNARD  Sure there are cheaper geocoding solutions out there. If you feel those are up to your standards, then I suggest you use those. You may however consider upping your standards.

Greed? Trying to make a living of one's work has never been called greed before.

On the Mac you can create a text editor in a couple of minutes. TextEdit would take a couple of days to recreate. Yet no one is blaming Apple, Microsoft, Corel, ... for charging money for their word processors.

PIERRE BERNARD  Google Earth Plus and HoudahGeo don't compare. These are two very different products. HoudahGeo is about photos and actually puts out data to Google Earth.

PIERRE BERNARD  That I am afraid is a limitation of the Spotlight engine. It does not index invisible files.

As for the toolbar, you have the option to icons & text, icons only or hide it altogether.
