PETER_EARTHMAN  Did you report this to the DEV?

No problems here.

FYI: there is a newer beta available when you mail the DEV. (beta 0.9.14). Don't know why he didn't make this version public. It fixes some problem I had.

*....

PETER_EARTHMAN  After doing my duo review of iTubeX and iTube Grabber I also tried this.

But to be fair, it just doens't cut it to today standards.

I mean, there are several very annoying issues with this utility it general makes this a useless effort.

* Why can I not quit downloading?

* Why doesn't it always convert the flv to mp4 (1 out of 5 it just doesn't work)

* Why doesn't it always capture the correct movie?

And I can go on summing up some other things but for me this is clear : not good at all.

Donating? No sir .. use iTube Grabber or iTubeX instead !

iTubeX Ultimate

****.

PETER_EARTHMAN  Duo test with iTube Grabber and iTubeX

Did several tests with both utilities and this is what I came up with:

* Both capture most stream videos with no problems from the leading video sites.

* Both can convert the downloaded flv videos to several codecs. However, iTube Grabber can do this automatically and without the need to install 3th-party packs. iTubeX needs the Perian pack to do this. Not a big deal but some people do not like to install extra stuff. Worth mentioning.

* Both have a very good integrated browser detecting a full acid test.

* I like the iTube Grabber interface more then the dull Safari like iTubeX. It goes without saying this is a personal preference.

* iTube Grabber has a neat stream history. Incredibly handy to catch hidden streams on some pages. This said, multi streams on one page is not very common but if it is there you can make the best of it. iTubeX does not feature this.

* iTubeX does not have a visible indication if there is a stream found. iTube Grabber tells the user this by a red grab button.

* iTube Grabber lacks a browse history.

* iTube Grabber has a "true" OS X interface. iTubeX has some issues (no correct Safari button behavior, no correct preference window, no correct about window, refreshing does not work correct - you have to press it twice, there is no shortcut to close windows and some more tiny bity annoyances)

* iTubeX has multi language support. iTube Grabber not.

My verdict:

Both utilities do what they advertise namely grabbing videos and they both do a very good job.

iTube Grabber has a advantage of doing some operations automatically such as converting, a stream history and having a "true" OS X interface.

This gives iTube Grabber a small overall advantage for me.

iTube Grabber is still in beta so I guess we can expect some more improvements.

Therefore it is fair to rate iTube Grabber one star more then iTubeX.

iTubeX Ultimate

JORIS VERVUURT  Thank you very much for your valuable review!

This way, I know what I can improve to make iTubeX Ultimate even better.

Just a quick note: the fact that you need to press the refresh button twice is odd.

It's even more odd because you have to double-click it only when you're on YouTube.

I will definitely take a look at it. Also, I will try to give iTubeX Ultimate a "true" OS X interface.

Could you please contact me at jorisvervuurt@planet.nl and tell me what you exactly mean with "no correct Safari button behavior" and "some more tiny bity annoyances"?

The fact that there is no shortcut to close windows is because there is only one window.

Anyway, thanks again for your valuable review.

PETER_EARTHMAN  Although being old and not update anymore this is still the best unrar utility for OS X.

It is fast and simple interface.

The only minor issue I encountered is it does not remeber password of argives. You have to enter this every time again and again.

SUNSKYSOFT  Thank you for the report.

Can the dmg file made by using other software (FreeDMG,DropDMG,etc) on OS X 10.6 do the mount with OS X 10.5 or less?

Time might hang in the fix of this problem because the author is not using OS X 10.6 (GM) now. (and doesn't have OS X 10.6 (GM).)

PETER_EARTHMAN  Funny. I was looking for a audio converter to convert FLAC files. First downloaded MacFLAC but that only gave a bunch op Applescript errors.

ALL2MP3 works but only to MP3.

By accident I discover this video converter. But it actually has audio converting possibilities I did not see in other audio converters.

You can convert nearly every audio format to another audio format.

No advanced Metadata support though.

Maybe the programmer should rename this to iMedia Converter :-)

Great tool and highly recommended for video AND audio converting.

PETER_EARTHMAN  64bit applications uses a lot of memory (virtual ram is only used when low on real memory).

Most times it is even slower running in practice. Integers are a little bit faster to handle with 64bit cores though. Float is slower to handle.

The only real advantages is you can use more then 4GB memory. Nothing more nothing less.

64bit is actually a big hype with little value for 99,99% of all users.

Are we all going to buy 10.6 because it has full 64bit support? No

Are we all going to buy 10.6? Yes

PETER_EARTHMAN  For me the best OS X image editor. It is clearly a copy of Photoshop seeing all menus are exactly the same.

Great use if HUD windows makes this a joy to use.

For this price it is a absolute winner !

Thanks to all the programmers to make such a nice tool.

PETER_EARTHMAN  I like this. I like this very much.

Simple but effective interface with all the bells you need.

I also tried other torrent tools for OS X but this is by far and clear the best of the bunch.

Look no further when you want to share torrents.

VirusBarrier X5

PETER_EARTHMAN  I am working with OS X for about 6 years now. Never got one problem with virus/trojans.

Is it necessary to use a virus killer? As of yet I do think not.

But when OS X is gaining popularity it maybe possible we are going to see a grow in trojans.

For now I do not need/want to use a virus killer like this.
