About Peter
Born 1954. I am a T.V. cameraman with over 30 years experience. I live in Sydney, and am married with a son. Bought first Apple Imac (G3 graphite) in June 2000, and promptly got hooked on Bugdom and Nanosaur Extreme. Purchased a G5 Intel Core 20" Imac February 2006, and went on broadband. I'm still scratching the surface. I have only bought 3 non-Apple programmes; Photoshop Elements for Mac, Bookpedia and DVD database X. Would really like to spend more time fixing the thousands of slides I have taken over the years. Maybe when I'm retired! I love 60's music, especially Jimi Hendrix and riding my 1978 Kawasaki Z1000 motorbike.

Nanosaur 2: Hatchling
Dec 1 2008

PETER DAWSON  I have recently upgraded to OS 10.5 on my Intel Imac, and I notice that I can no longer select which level to start on (O.K., I'll call it a cheat!) by holding down the F10 button when starting the game. I'd really appreciate any solutions to this problem. Peter Dawson.

PETER DAWSON  31/7/08. I know this is really late to reply to your comments, but I've just come across it. I spent thousands of hours (no bull) playing this game on my first G3 Imac, and there's not much I don't know about it. Firstly, there are five coloured eggs that you must collect in the 20 minutes you're alotted, but there is more than one of each colour. If you claim you're picking up different eggs and then off loading them at the collection points, but it still says you've only got one egg, it's because you are picking several eggs of the same colour. After a while you start to know where the different ones are hidden, and you have to keep moving through the game, or you won't come across the other coloured eggs. The jet backpack doesn't work unless you stand over one of those steam vents in the ground. That's how you fill your tank. Keep an eye on the fuel gauge too, as some vents will only half fill the tank. To take off push the A key and to land the Z key. Once you get the hang of this game, you'll find it addictive. I'm still hooked after 8 years. Sadly all my requests to Brian Greenstone of Pangea Software to get the game released in OS X have failed, but strangely it's available as download for Windows computers. If you go to the Pangea website there is a map with the design of the game including the hiding spots for the eggs. Good Luck.

ADDITUNE  Sorry 'bout that. I meant sometime before Apple released Leopard to the public in October.

PETER DAWSON  Please excuse my ignorance here, but what "nice stuff" do you mean? This works perfectly on my G5 Intel Imac, so I'm not aware of what I'm missing out on.

PETER DAWSON  I would love to be able to download a demo of this programme, but all attempts fail. Does everyone else have the same luck, or is it only me? If the developers of this programme see my message, could they please do something about their website, as I am sure I'm not the only person trying to download a copy.

PETER DAWSON  I've played this game constantly for the last 18 months, so there's not much I don't know about it. There is NO way of killing those big grubs that come up out of the ground at you. The only thing you can is get out of their way, and quickly. I find you have a much better chance of getting the eggs near where they are, if you stay really close to the ground.

DVD Database X
Aug 9 2006
*****

PETER DAWSON  I bought a copy of DVD Database X about a year ago, and have been extremely happy with it. Consequentially, I haven't even bothered to look at any other DVD inventory programmes. My old G3 Graphite Imac didn't have an Isight camera, and I was only on dialup, but it was able to find pretty well all my movies. The few exceptions were some Aussie films that aren't available in the US, so I had to add them manually. No big deal. The old Elvis Presley movie "Girls, Girls Girls" caused a bit of a headache though (remember, Joe?) In February I bought a new Intel Core Imac, and now I can fit the whole application on the screen at once. Brilliant. Just like iTunes, you can alter the sequence of the columns and their width, as well as customizing some fields if you want. (I'm sure you'll find everything's covered). You can do searches based on anything you like (Title, Year, Director, Plot, Genre, Actors, etc.). You can also give each DVD a rating out of 5 stars. Earlier this week I upgraded to Version 1.7.1 (with a lot of help from Joe Kusterbeck, the wonderfully patient designer of this software) and the interface now looks even better. There is a cover display option where all the DVD covers are laid out in neat rows , alphabetically. Talk about how to impress your friends.

The only thing I haven't used is the ability to download trailers onto your computers' hard-drive, but I'm happy enough without that. Money well spent frankly.

Joe Kusterbeck, the designer of this programme, has always replied to my e-mails, sometimes within hours, despite the time difference between Australia and the US. He has been incredibly patient explaining things to me in layman's terms, even when it was bleeding obvious to him, but not to me.

I highly recommend this programme for cataloging your DVD collection. I do not believe there is a better one on the market.
