PETERNSTEINMETZ  Well, web site says they are working on Snow Leopard support. And there is still an answering machine on their 877 number. Nothing recent in their blog. Seems like there is still hope.

LiteSwitch X
Nov 16 2009

PETERNSTEINMETZ  Next version of Keyboard Maestro (and the current beta) handles command-tab, which was my only reason for continuing to use LiteSwitch.

Quicksilver
Nov 15 2009

PETERNSTEINMETZ  Had troubles running this new version under 10.6.2.

Threw out the ~/Library/Application Support/Quicksilver folder and ~/Library/Preferences/blacktree.Quicksilver.plist

and now it reinstalls and works.

PETERNSTEINMETZ  2 years and 7 months, still no update from the acquiring company.

Too bad, looks like a neat product, but crashes on SL as soon as you try to save something.

Keyboard Maestro
Nov 13 2009
*****

PETERNSTEINMETZ  An affordable keyboard switcher and macro solution which is easy to learn and use.

Includes a program switcher and window switcher.

Very responsive developer and Stairways has long produced high quality software for the Mac.

(Hopefully the upcoming version 4 will soon include the ability to map the program switcher to command-Tab, thus replacing the no longer available or supported LiteSwitch)

Mailsmith
Nov 9 2009

PETERNSTEINMETZ  I'm also a fan of BareBones and purchased Mailsmith back when Mail was very slow. I would likely consider going back if it supported imap.

I believe there are several open source libraries to do imap, so don't quite understand the lack of this support still at this time.

LiteSwitch X
Nov 6 2009

PETERNSTEINMETZ  This is a 32 bit control panel, so requires a restart of System Preferences under Snow Leopard -- annoying, but works.

As to Proteron, LLC, it is listed as an inactive corporation by the state of Nebraska for non-payment of taxes. The registered agent, Neill Mollard, of Omaha, NE doesn't appear to have a phone number in whitepages. But perhaps someone in Omaha might be able to reach him.

The other developers, Ammon Skidmore, Samuel and Matthew Caughron seem to have moved out west. Would be nice to get the source or an update, that is for sure.

StuffIt Deluxe 2010
Sep 28 2009

PETERNSTEINMETZ  Yes, most definitely past time to abandon stuffit. I think it was 2 versions back I gave up, when I discovered that my last remaining use, an encrypted archive, could be accomplished as easily or better by an encrypted disk image.

Now they want a c.c. number to try the demo. What a scam.

The user interface they have gone to is terrible as well, very un mac-like.

Avoid it.

Interarchy
May 26 2009
***..

PETERNSTEINMETZ  I've been a long time user of Interarchy (and prior to that Anarchie) and liked the older versions rather well.

I have to recommend CyberDuck instead these days. Although Interarchy transfers are fast, the developer who acquired it really isn't maintaining this. The 9 update appeared to mostly a reason for the new developer to charge everyone something.

The new UI is not the most intuitive, in my opinion.

Cyberduck is perhaps not as polished and not as fast, but it is free and is maintained.
