PEDROBAL  That is because you work for them. No one else in the whole planet, than a paid person, would praise SongGenie, CoverScout and TheTube. Including the EPG on top of it all. Since you work there, why don't you spend your hours improving the apps and their user interface instead of posting stuff like this?

PEDROBAL  So I bought the full version. It is indeed well made and it is a good game-play. The main problem is the relatively weak AI. It completely ignores Africa and the Middle East for example. After playing once against the cpu (and lost) it is now almost impossible to lose no matter how many advantages and handicap I give the AI. I think for $50, the developers should keep issuing updates that fix balance issues and AI weaknesses.

It may be more fun if you play person-to-person than against the cpu.

The Tube
Mar 7 2009

PEDROBAL  Impossible product. A mess to install and it does not have a program guide for USA. Apparently, Equinux has some sort of guide deal but it is buried in their website (typical German style with 10 times too much text, duplicated information but structured in such a bizarre way that you will never find what you are looking for). This product will not be useful to anybody at least not in the US. They have half a dozen other products too but, again, it's too messy to understand. They'd betted bundle it all up in 2-3 product and make them work properly.

It's such a shame to see good engineering disappear by bad UI and marketing.

TECHCHICK99  Hi Pedrobal,

have you checked the preference pane in The Tube? There is a tab called "EPG" where you can select the guide for USA. It is actually pretty easy. Hope to help you with this hint.

PEDROBAL  I tried out the demo and it seems like a pretty good turn-based strategy game. But why is it so expensive?

TRENTI  They developed very hard on the 1024 x 768 pixels resolution. I think that's why it's 49,95$. It's an absolute premium feature.

EyeTV

PEDROBAL  EyeTV3.0 essentially is the same app as version 2. Not much will have changed in the eyes of the user. It is easier to export to other formats. The export feature is flakey and unstable. Two out of three times I scheduled a recording, the export stalled in the middle so I was unable to view the movie on my iPhone. The worst problem with EyeTV is a horrendous memory leak. After running a few hours, the whole system slows down to a crawl. After taking a look in Activity Monitor I noticed that EyeConnect was using up over 900MB of real RAM (not just virtual), and that was while it had been doing nothing. I googled a bit and found that the only way to get my RAM back was to delete the file ~/iTunes/iTunes Music Library.xml, and Force Quit EyeConnect. This will help until you restart the system, after which EyeConnect again will eat up all RAM, so again you will have to delete the xml file.

Elgato's costumer support is of course lousy, they give you a support help ticket as a confirmation but I have yet to get a response from them now after a week. I would not recommend that anybody buys this product yet unless they are truly able to troubleshoot memory leaks.

MAXGLORIOUSMACS  I have a similar issue with eyetv 3 and the Memory-Leak-of-doom. If the liveTV buffer is running or I have opened a recording to be edited, the amount of available RAM goes to none.

I can hear the hard disk crunch like there's no tomorrow and my swap balloons in size.

Unfortunately it does the same thing when a scheduled recording starts. This would be understandable on a mac mini or even a macbook....but a Mac Pro with 6 gigs of RAM?

I hope Elgato issue a fix soon because failed renders are not compatible with rendering university work that is (naturally) left until the last minute!

Besides the leak, EyeTV 3 is marvellous. It plays much nicer with the Diversity than the EyeTV 2 ever did. I like the improved export functions, however some of the eye-candy can be cumbersome.

Worth the upgrade despite the teething troubles.

PETER (DEVELOPER)  The program only writes to disk when it starts up and check the preferences. After that it should operate from RAM. Unless, of course, other processes are in action... But the program does not require shaking. Modest tilting is not sudden enough to trigger the SMS.
