OMNIGROUP  Thanks for your feedback on our pricing!

We try to price our products very competitively, and we believe that if you look at the alternatives in the same space (such as Visio and ConceptDraw) you'll find that our product is priced very reasonably. (And most of our customers strongly prefer it to those alternatives!)

I hope that you’ll take a second look at all the new features in OmniGraffle 5—it’s a very substantial upgrade. But you don’t have to take my word for it, we offer a two-week free trial (with full access to all features).

D9  Ethan, I can appreciate your comments. As I stated in an earlier post, it's certainly with OmniGroup's right to price their software as they deem appropriate.

However, I'd contend that your remarks are misguided towards the majority of the complaining posts. These are not potential OmniGraffle Pro users but current users who feel the price of upgrading their current version to 5 is not justified by the price. We are well aware of the incredible ease and features of OGP, but we do not carry that same admiration for version 5 at the current upgrade price.

Once again, OmniGroup is obviously entitled to pursue a policy that best suits their business. I just think a lot of us current users feel this policy is not in our best interest.

Thanks for "listening".

ESPIRIDION  Indeed it's an interesting way of treating loyal customers.

I've already spent some money on OGP, in addition to a few upgrades.

I don't recall ever being disappointed by an Omni upgrade fee as I am with this one, and I have purchased most of their software as well as upgrades in the past 7 years or so.

DIGGINESTDOGG  I am a long-time user of OG product (Focus, Graffle, Outliner)--Outliner and Graffle through several versions including upgrading to pro from the standard versions that came with my Mac 3 or 4 years ago.

But having paid the upgrade to 4 Pro only a year ago it seems I am balking at the stratospheric price of this one. The upgrade is twice as expensive as it needs to be for a great app I don't use daily. For example: Illustrator, clearly 5 times the app OmiGraffle Pro is, is $199 to upgrade from CS2 to CS3--5x the app but 2.5x the cost to upgrade. As I said--the OG 5 upgrade costs twice what it should cost.

This is where I stop patronizing Omni products I think. I'll stay on 4 and start evaluating a migration strategy and course.

JUDDBERT  I'm afraid I have to agree with Espiridion. I really cannot see anything in OGP version 5 that offers an incentive to upgrade from version 4. At $25 to $30 perhaps, but $75 - sorry, not interested. Like digginestdogg, I purchased OG Pro just a year ago and saw what; one minor upgrade? Sorry Omnipeople, but this is not the way to treat loyal customers - not if you want to keep them that is. I'll stick with version 4, and try to ignore the slightly tarnished view I now hold of OmniGroup.

ZEITKIND  Well, I think most v4 users never missed the features regarding Visio, so they don't see the "value" or v5. I tested OG several times in the past, but the missing support for Visio was just a killer for me. Now I consider buying it and I'm glad to see the Visio support. I bought ConceptDraw many years ago, but their price politic was far worse and the program kept crashing for me, so the ability to switch to OG is fine for me.

KAIDOH  Same for me: I used OG Pro for years and I really like it. The new features would be appreciated. But every user always only needs a subset of the new stuff (for me Visio support is absolutely unimportant while shared layers sound very promising). I understand that Omni wants to earn money with their products, but 80 $ for an upgrade is too steep for my budget and it's perceived benefit (as it is for OmniFocus btw).

I guess I'll be happy keeping version 4 for quite a while and hope for a discount some day.

SILVERDR  Thank you for your comment and explanations. Unfortunately they are not very cogent for long time users of your products. The changes in your pricing policy made me STOP upgrading. Sorry - I won't pay for an upgrade this much. I paid already for several "Pro" versions and upgrades in the past but with this move you made a "stop" for me. And judging by the comments (not only) here - I am not the only one thinking this way. Sure - it is your business and your choice but with the latest version's pricing schemes you stopped being a rare pearl of the software companies with great software and great pricing. This image is more and more lost now. As someone already mentioned - now we only need a competitive product to fully look away from you.
