NIGEL2112 It takes real talent to make an app in OS X look this ugly. Lovely teal, hot pink and bright purple text, grainy snapshots placed behind the calendars, little buttons and check boxes all crammed in together. What nostalgia! Like an OS9 app from the good old days. (Please take these comments with a grain of salt. I don't mean them as a review of the functionality of BDCalendar, it's just been a while since I've seen an app this hideous.) (Version 1.210)

NIGEL2112 A 'prick' is someone who can't take light-hearted ribbing and responds with mindless insults. I prefer real insults: "Ha ha 'icons13' you don't know how to spell." "You write comments on software you've never used." "Your mother dropped you one too many times." Those are proper insults. Come on. Lighten up. Life's too short. Have you never seen Top Gear? (Or maybe you drive a BMW??) I use it daily and can heartily recommend it. Well worth 20 smackeroos.

NIGEL2112 For the life of me I cannot understand what you are talking about, I mean no offense dude but I've been using ABFR for a good while now and it's been totally rock solid and has just about every possible combination of ways to rename files that I can think of and quite frankly I doubt that I would have the bravery to go into Automator and attempt to recreate the same functionality and in any case I've tried the free rename apps and they're good but ABFR has it all so I bought it and have not regretted it once as I consider it a must have app until Apple comes up with an alternative and even then I don't think it would be as good and that's all I have to say about (ok, mock) the comments by 'Iconz113' except to say that I hope you have enjoyed reading this run-on sentence. Adobe Photoshop CS4 | Jul 28 2009 |
NIGEL2112 Just an observation: Are we not grown ups here? If we don't like the price we should all stick with what we've got. I don't write reviews of the new BMW 328i saying how it's heavier than the older models and more complex and expensive, I keep my old car! In my case with Adobe I'm on CS2. It was expensive but worth every penny. It's been rock solid and fast and it's paid my mortgage more than once. But I will also wait for CS5, just to send a message. If it's another dot update like CS4 was I'll hold out for CS6... (Version 11.0.1)

Journler | Jul 27 2009 |
NIGEL2112 Quote: "Journler will always be free". Statement on MU: "Journler is still free for non-commercial use." The fact that the developer said these things and then reneged on the promise is reason enough to look elsewhere. There are any number of avenues he could have taken, but to say one thing and do another like that is just bad form. We expect stuff like this from a company like Micros**t, not a Mac developer. Tooble | Jun 11 2009 |
NIGEL2112 First, nowhere does it state that Tooble needs another component (called 'Perian') to function. Only after the app is installed does this show itself and asks to be downloaded. It slowed my system right down and crashed so I removed it. Could be that I'm on 10.5.7

WireTap Studio | Jun 3 2009 |
NIGEL2112 I have no doubt that you believe your software is the best and can give me proof, but you're now asking way too much money for the ability to record audio on the Mac. I just need a quick and simple way to capture audio, I don't need a whole studio, and I dare say a large proportion of your potential customers don't either. You may have thought it was very clever to replace (instead of add to) WTPro with a higher cost product with more features but you've just pushed a whole level of business away. (Version 1.0.11)

WireTap Studio | May 18 2009 |
NIGEL2112 This is not a review of WTS as I have not used it. I had WT Pro which I used almost daily. It was a neat little app although a tad pricey for what it did, but I bought it and used the heck out of it. Then I reinstalled my OS to unjunk my iMac, I go to Ambrosia to see about getting WTP back and now it's 'Studio' and the price has gone to almost SEVENTY dollars! I can't go back to 'Pro' it's gone and forgotten, so now I'm just left with a bad taste in my mouth. So much for Ambrosia. I don't care how good they think their stuff is, they're just plain greedy. WireTap Studio | May 27 2009 |
You can still find WireTap Pro here: http://ambrosia.cachefly.net/wiretap/essentials/WireTapPro.dmg We recently updated it for the last time, but have not tested it against the 10.5.7 update to OS X. Comparing WireTap Studio to WireTap Pro: WireTap Studio is a full-fledged audio solution - it can record from a discrete application (WireTap Pro could only capture Mac audio generally) and an editor, as well as containing a nifty way to transfer audio to different places - email, servers, external devices, or even your iPhone. WireTap Pro has none of these features. To be more specific with that first feature - when you click "Record" in WireTap Pro, we capture *every* sound coming through your Mac. So if you're recording an interview over Skype and your microphone, and new email arrives or someone IMs you, the sounds produced by those events will be right there in your recording. WireTap Studio, on the other hand, will let you target a specific microphone and a specific application, letting you record with certainty that you'll only get what you want, and that's even BEFORE you use LivePreview, and the lossless editing we put in there. Stellar Phoenix Data Recovery | Oct 23 2008 |
NIGEL2112 I tried the demo too, it wouldn't see the CF card so I called their 'tech help'. The Indian chap asked me to email screen shots of the software and Disk Utility so they could see that DU could see the card but their recovery software could not. I did so, and that was the last I heard from them. Gee, thanks for the help! I also tried CardRaider. Half the trouble and a fraction of the price. Steer clear of this less than stellar rubbish if I were you. (Version 3.0)

New World Bible for iPod | Sep 14 2008 |
NIGEL2112 Actually, most 'true bible text scholars' have NOT praised for the NWT for any such thing: • Dr. Bruce M. Metzger, professor of New Testament at Princeton University, calls the NWT "a frightful mistranslation," "Erroneous" and "pernicious" "reprehensible". • Dr. William Barclay, a leading Greek scholar, said "it is abundantly clear that a sect which can translate the New Testament like that is intellectually dishonest." • British scholar H.H. Rowley stated, "From beginning to end this volume is a shining example of how the Bible should not be translated." • Dr. Julius Mantey , author of A Manual Grammar of the Greek New Testament: The NWT is "a shocking mistranslation." "Obsolete and incorrect." "I have never read any New Testament so badly translated as The Kingdom Interlinear Translation of The Greek Scriptures.... it is a distortion of the New Testament." iPhoto Library Manager | Aug 24 2008 |
NIGEL2112 Ok. I stand corrected! The email I received from the developer stated quite clearly that iPhoto Library Manager DOES indeed copy file hierarchy.

iPhoto Library Manager | Aug 4 2008 |
NIGEL2112 May I suggest that copying album hierarchy is the whole point? If you shot Raw photos iPLM does NOT copy both the raw and processed jpeg, only one or the other. This means that if you have raw pics and tweak them (which iPhoto then saves to the jpeg version in the Modified folder of it's library) iPLM is still incapable of moving BOTH to a new library. Unfortunately, (and please correct me if I'm wrong) this shortcoming renders iPLM not much better than iPhoto Buddy. If you need to copy between libraries just use iPB or export to a folder on the desktop, restart iPhoto (with Option key held down) to pick your other library and copy folder that to the iPhoto window. I suspect it is not possible to copy album hierarchy from library to library, or the dev would have done it. But if he can do it, he'd have something worth paying for. I wish Fat Cat success in accomplishing this. (Version 3.4.2)

JournalX | Feb 23 2008 |
NIGEL2112 Worked like a charm on Tiger, not at all on Leopard. This program is up there with the best of them. Truly an "iPhoto for PDFs (and everything else)". At the Finder level, it looks like it simply keeps the regular hierarchal thing, when you open and save a document in TextEdit for example it just resaves and on you go. No funny business. Having everything (PDFs, jpegs, etc.) in one handy place is awesome. But: The developer's website (what there is of one) is wholly lacking. It's mostly in German and it appears there is no way to contact the author, except by letter! But hey, if he makes JournalX Leopard compatible - I'll buy it! Just please lose the horse icon.
