NED ANDERSON  So if I'm right, I don't actually need this widget? I just need to cut n paste that list of torrent sites.

I think widgets that open browsers are lame. Just use the browser.

NED ANDERSON  Arn't .DS_Store files a nessessary part of OSX. Don't they hold important info like window positions, what view mode they're in (list or icon). Or wheather the side bar is present or not? wouldn't wiping all the .DS files set everything back to factory settings?

HAL2007  You're right. Those files hold information about window placement, labels on files and the way window content is displayed (list, icon, columns).

Blue Harvest is mainly adressed to people that have windows servers. Windows people are often annoyed by those .DS_Store files that Mac OS X spreads everywhere. And on a windows server, you can't make real use of those settings anyhow. So why not force the system to simply not generate those invisble files on certain locations?

However, there are tools that do that for no money (Onyx, TinkerTool, and possibly more).

Blue Harvest gives more control about that, but this costs you extra.

NED ANDERSON  Yep, can't open the file. Can open the 8.3meg sit file, which gives me a 8.3meg 7z file. Can't open it, tried Zipit and Stuffit expander. I don't think it's wise to compress your files using an uncommen format. I think .sit or .zip are the most commen.

JEDIK  Now you need a 7z file expander. There are at least two listed here on MU.

NED ANDERSON  It would be wise to work on copies and compare to the original. I've had cases where a couple of songs were totally wiped, as in no sound at all. I mean the file was all there just no sound or volume. It's only happened a couple of times but it's worth quickly running through the tracks in iTunes or whatever and just make sure they are all audible. You only need to hear the first few second to confirm if yiu can hear it.

NED ANDERSON  Dose anyone know what pre-binding actualy does. I've done this twice and it screwed my computer both times. All I got on restarting was a blank desktop and the Spotlight icon in the top right corner and nothing else. It seemed to load everything up until that point and then just sit there. ????

NED ANDERSON  I wanted to try this but the link is broken??? The new link (posted below) is for some sort of FrontRow type of thing. I need something to 'encod'e not just 'play'. Currently using DivXRay 2.5 and it serves me well.

NED ANDERSON  Brilliant software. I still prefer DVD2One for 'ease of use'. But this managed to compress a particular DVD the DVD2One refused to. So for that it was worth every cent. And I suppose it's good to have more than one option for converting DVDs these days

NED ANDERSON  It would be great if this could run in the background or in invisible mode. That way it could be added to the login items and become a permanent feature of the OS without having to start the application.

MACUPDATE ADMIN  You might want to try QuickImageCM. It's a Contextual Menu Item and as such it is always available. It's the first software of its kind and likely the best. I've used it since its first release and never had a problem with it and it's free as well.

STRONGMANTIM  In the mean time, there are a couple utilities like you are describing that I have used in the past:

PicturePopProCM

http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/12326

(Not the most intuitive interface, but works well with Tiger)

QuickPlayCM

http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/13227

(More user-friendly, but uses old brushed metal. No updates in over a year)
