NAMAN  As much as I love Camino, I think the devs are making a huge mistake by continuing to work on the 1.x trunk at all. It's actually been less stable than the 2.x trunk for me, and the 2.x trunk is vastly superior in terms of features and compatibility. I wish they'd at least post the betas here, because as seen in other comments, a lot of people think Camino is barely being maintained and have been abandoning it.

For those interested, I recommend http://preview.caminobrowser.org/ or checking out a recent nightly build.

BUMBLEB  Thank you!

I for one didn't know there was a version 2 beta.

Camino is my fave browser because it is so lean. Luv it.

OZEAN  Well, I do not think that they spend too much time on this. It is mostly backporting a few fixes that are in the 2.x series anyway. The good thing about this is that the 1.6.x branch is the last to support Mac OS 10.3.x – so for these users, Camino is one of the few modern browsers that offer up to date security.

However, I would also think that they should push out their updates more often. I have been using the 2.x nightly builds for months now without any major problems and with many benefits to my browsing experience.

LARRYMCJ  Beta 2 is really nice...BUT...it has a horrible, reproduceable bug they simply won't fix. Google visited links don't change color so you don't know what pages you've searched. Really frustrating. This works fine in the release v1.6.8.

NAMAN  Terrible DRM scheme, wish I hadn't bought it. The game itself is mediocre at best. It's like they tried to combine a bunch of different types of games, and essentially ended up with a jack of all trades, master of none. The gameplay is boring and frustrating, and the only interesting thing is the creator.

(1 because the DRM really is that bad; would give it a 3 without it.)

NAMAN  These 5+ year old games are still extremely popular games. What's more important, the modern game 500 people play, or the 5 year old game 5000 people play? The whole reason this is an issue to people like me is because a lot of my friends play D2 and SC online, and so do I.

And the problem is not old hardware, it's new hardware. This only effects Intel macs, and mostly the more recent ones. However, the games worked fine until 10.5.3, due to Apple's arbitrarily removing 256 color support from the graphics drivers for several cards with no warning.

NAMAN  One, it wasn't Blizzard's fault. Their games worked perfectly fine for many years, then suddenly broke in the 10.5.3 update. Two, Blizzard _did_ try to fix it, but it was out of their power to fix without re-writing a ton of the code for 5+ year old games. Three, most importantly, it wasn't just Blizzard's games that broke, Fallout 1 and 2 also broke, as did other games utilizing what Apple broke.

NAMAN  Doesn't fix what they broke in 10.5.3 that made a bunch of older games (Starcraft, Diablo 2, Fallout, etc.) crash on startup. :(

Safari AdBlock

NAMAN  Uh, is this not a plugin? It's packaged in an installer that requires authentication to run, so I didn't install it. If it doesn't have to modify existing files, could you make it a drag-and-drop file, or at least give the installer the option to install for only this user?

MARTIN_MYSTERE  There's an installer with authentification because the plugin needs to be installed in /Library/InputManagers and specific file permissions need to be set.

If you don't trust the installer, Safari AdBlock is open-source, so you can build it and install it yourself.

Alarm Clock

NAMAN  This app is absolutely wonderful! No more raucous squeal waking me up in the morning. No more worrying about whether or not I remembered to set the alarm for the right time. Waking up to good music at the right time on the right days is how an alarm clock should be. I can't think of any ways to improve the intuitiveness of this app, and I can't think of any features it could use that would be useful outside of extremely specific circumstances. It's also never crashed or otherwise had any bugs, from my experience of using it for several months.

NAMAN  It's a glitch on Apple's end, from the looks of things. Since I don't expect them to fix it any time soon, I humbly request, if you (the developer) can easily do so, that you add the ability to choose what sound output device Alarm Clock uses. I think if I were able to set it to Line Out at all times, it would always play through my speakers.

NAMAN  Firstly, thanks for this app, it's been of real use to me. Secondly, I had been using version 2.3.8 on my Mac Pro (not sure how, when I think of it, I must've copied it from my G5) until today, when I missed class because it played through my headphones instead of my speakers. I updated, ran some tests, and the problem seems to have gone away.

Was something fixed between 2.3.8 and 2.4.2 that rectified this problem, or is it a glitch of Apple's Sound or SoundMenu?

ROBBIEHANSON15  That's a great idea, but I'm not sure if it's possible. I'll have to dive into Core Audio to find out for sure. But I've never seen another application that could force audio to the normal speakers if headphones were plugged in...

Virtual Villagers: The Lost Children

NAMAN  Great little simulation game. Though the progression of it (it's slow, which makes sense as the game goes on even when not open, unless you pause it) might put off some people, I find it to be a fun, relaxing game. You don't play it for hours on end, you just start it up every so often, check on things, and make any changes you need to, then just watch your villagers do things, or try to figure out how to solve the various puzzles on the island.

****½

NAMAN  The developer was very helpful in troubleshooting, and I eventually got it to work, and it seems perfectly stable and does what it should. The only hitch is that as of 1.1b1 it seems your Dofus folder must be named "Dofus" or Dofex won't work. As for features, my only complaint is that it either resizes the window at startup, or doesn't remember the size of the window when you quit, which can be a bit annoying if you play the game larger than "normal" size. Aside from that, great, helpful little app! Thanks for making it!

NAMAN  Doesn't work on my dual 2 Ghz G5 with OS 10.4.8. It loads a window with no content (just whiteness) and stays that way. I disabled Application Enhancer for it, and checked the console for any other possible conflicts, but couldn't get it to work.
