I find tree maps the absolute best way of representing disk usage, and I think there is no better program to do it on any platform. |
After logging in, as soon as it draws the graph, it dies with Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001) Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x000001f4 |

Works very very well. Sad to see there is no intention to make it iPhoto 08 compatible - I can't believe iPhoto's keyword handling is now as good as Keyword Assistant. |
Works nicely BUT I don't think the playlists it creates are very useful - basing it on 2 Big Black and one Dub Syndicate it generated a playlist that included the themes to Wacky Racers and Trumpton! |
Work fine on my Intel iMac when I was on 10.4.9 and now on 10.4.10 |
1.14a is available, though it is still PPC and a PPC Adobe import plugin |
How is this different to Sherlock (which I stopped using when I realised Google gave me all the hits I needed)? |
Installation note The Software Update utility will present the update that applies to your system configuration. Only one is needed, either AirPort Update 2006-001 or Security Update 2006-005. |
Even more annoying to use a shuffle now that they don't permit it to remain on the Sources section. Bug/feature that prevents podcast being included in Shuffle Autofill still not fixed. Reacts badly to old plug-ins, couldn't iTunes offer to disable these by default? |
oops, sorry I thought I come across this as a recent release in macupdate. Shame that MU doesn't flag apps that have gone awol in some way (on the listing view or at least on the main page) |
Have you tried disabling any 3rd party plugins, ie quit iTunes, move '/Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins' to your desktop, and reopen iTunes. If no better, try the one in your personal Library. If it cures it you can try reintroducing the plug-ins until you find which one(s) cause the problem. |

MacTheRipper is the only freeware deCSS program other than this (Handbrake is great at making avi or mp4's but doesn't extract the whole disk). The MacTheRipper has been on-the-run in the past after persecution, and it felt like we had all our VIDEO_TS extractor eggs in one basket, so I welcome this newcomer and will be trying it out. |
The latest version fixes the problem I had where numeric-keypad actions looked just like typing on the main part of the keyboard. Shame that the lisp load-path doesn't include anywhere not contained within the application package (so that you can store your extra lisp libraries in a safe place which isn't replaced when you upgrade the application). Also strange that '/Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/Resources/share/emacs/site-lisp' isn't in the path. |
Great idea. Would be nice to be able to specify if the imported artists are on or off by default, to import only artists from a specified playlist, or even to only consider artists with tracks of a certain minimum rating. One of those great Widgets that are crippled by the widget environment (cannot resize, print window, etc), perhaps the developer could consider writing a proper Cocoa app for this good idea. |
Trialware not freeware. Limited fun. Should consider spoken questions. Once a child can fluently read and type numbers I think they'd be bored to pieces. |
I keep downloading this when really I should be updating using instructions at http://fink.sourceforge.net/download/upgrade.php. Also the link provided by MacUpdate currently only links to the PPC version. The intel one is at http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/fink/Fink-0.8.1-Intel-Installer.dmg?download |
The developer's website has version 6.5 which apparently does not have these problems. |
A great addition makes adding keywords less of a chore. Its usefulness is highlighted by my recent move to an Intel mac where it doesn't yet work and I'm struggling to use iPhoto's built-in keyword UI. I'm eagerly awaiting the Universal Binary. |
Didn't work for me; I entered all the normal info (same as the details I use in Aquadatastudio) and got the message 'Couldn't connect to the database Io exception: Invalid connection string format, a valid format is: "host:port:sid" ' I don't know what error log it is logging to (if any) so I can't see any more details of what has gone wrong. |
Spews too many lines to console.log, "AcidSearch is Running!" followed by a complete plist of all the search details. |
Links to download and see more info are dead; I'll give xCHM a try instead. |
Could developers try and avoid sitx files - StuffitExpander is no longer bundled with Macs; better to distribute a zip'ped dmg. |
Seems to work, all my address book contacts appear in Plaxo, but I'm noticing more and more lost data - my Address book is currently fine, but some pictures, home addresses, etc are missing in Plaxo. Perhaps the beta should kick out a summary of what it did and did not successfully parse for each contact. |
Works well enough but I have 1 big feature request. I use open an ssh tunnel to a proxy on my work's intranet when working from home, so I only want to turn on the proxy on certain occasions. Unfortunately at every startup, 'Proxy On/Off 1.0' defaults to On so when I restart the computer all http requests fail until I either start my ssh tunnel, or goto the Widget and turn off the Proxy. I would like the proxy setting to maintain its state across restarts or to be able to specify it to be off by default. |
Its great that the developer has made this. Shows some very odd behaviour of the speech engine, eg arc sounds like urg. The default is an odd selection of words aaa, jim, etc that could do with being restricted to those in common usage that can be pronounced correctly! Still, the word list is easily loaded/saved so I'll have a go at customising it myself. |
I never have that problem because I always wipe the card after importing (or simply let it erase originals after it has imported). |
v1.4.1 makes single-user-mode command line checking/fixing of your startup disk so simple I now do it nearly every time I restart. |
Sad to see there is no mention of being able to include subtitles yet when preparing dvds. |
When I upgraded to Tiger I thought I'd ditch Quicksilver for Spotlight, but I find Quicksilver the best and the fastest application launcher (I use Spotlight for more complex searches). I've used B42 for a while and found it stable and very useful. |
Nice. Faster than Disk Inventory X, but lacks the ability to 'Reveal in Finder' or 'Move to Trash' selected file(s). |
Faster to run and simple to install than myPhoto, but missing three big features - ability to configure web page layout - ability to search (by keyword and/or title) - ability to see whole library, and block photos (ideally by keyword) |
Won't run - apparently lacks some bundled objects:- % /Applications/Utilities/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective ZeroLink: could not load .o file: /Users/erwin/temp/Xcode-builds/GrandPerspective.build/GrandPerspective.build/Objects-normal/ppc/main.ob ... |
Great value (free for academics). It does the job pretty well when I use it to query Oracle (both from a Mac and from Windows). Some interactions seem a bit quirky, but it is probably more to do with my ignorance of some Oracle intricacies. |
The best implementation of single-window emacs in active development that I have found. Many distributions of emacs for OSX have fallen by the wayside and haven't been updated to work with system upgrades, but this is being actively developed. Unlike Aquamacs it holds all files/buffers in a single window, a 'limitation' that I actually require. |
If you've got broadband and use iPhoto you really should try this out. Both iPhoto's built-in web export and that facilitated by third party plug-ins (free or shareware) are the best option if you can't serve the pictures on your own computer but they get out-of-date unless you export whenever you make a change. Until iPhoto can do this out-of-the-box, myPhoto is worth a try. |
