MacSpeech Dictate
Mar 13 2009

MUKINDURI  I installed Windows XP on my Macbook only so I could run Dragon Dictate 9, the latest version then available. I was not happy with Dragon 9's performance and seldom used the program. With some scepticism I spent more money to update to the newly released Dragon Dictate 10. There is a world of difference between versions 9 and 10. I love Dragon 10.

I'm considering buying a new Mac and would settle for Macspeech if it's performance is similar to Dragon Dictate 10. The underlying speech recognition technology is the same for both.

Does anyone have experience in comparing the two systems?

MACUPDATE ADMIN  Ah, Jim... For shame! Windows XP?

Wish I could help you out comparing the softwares you mention, I have no experience with either.

WorldTimes
Mar 15 2008

MUKINDURI  Really useful. With friends scattered around the world and free Skype telephone calls, World time is just what I wanted. I had found it an annoyance to have to open the time zone info which resides in Apple's systems preferences panel. With WorlTimes I have local times in various cities right on my desktop.

WorldTimes is smart enough, for example, to figure out that Arizona does not use daylight saving time and that Venezuela is on permanent half hour daylight saving time.

Couple of suggestions for next upgrade.

+24 hour time format would be handy.

+Any chance of displaying the date too?

Dreams

MUKINDURI  I wanted a second web browser so I can have have more than one Yahoo mail account open at the same time. I chose Dreams because it only takes up some 0.5mb of disk space which makes for a very efficient use of disk space.

I've set the home page to Yahoo.com so not having bookmarks is not a problem. Dreams is fast and reliable for doing my email.

I'll probably use Dreams for other web activities too from time to time. As Dreams is free it is a real bargain.

JIM LINDSAY  Update of earlier comment. I had problems which turned out to be me accidently setting my computer wrongly. After using Netscape, Explorer and Opera for a day with growing exasperation I determined to get iCab operating again. All is well now. What a relief. It is so much better than any of the others.

JIM LINDSAY  It's easy to save web pages onto the desktop. iCab was my preferred browser.

However I got a surprize when I was advised after 6 months that my version had expired and was invited to pay $30 registration fee to continue using it.
