MORNINGSTARR  I purchased MacFamilyTree in the hopes of being able to continue my intermittent research of my family. I recently switched to MAC and PAF is not available. I had hopes that this program would help me continue. However, I'm vastly disappointed. The graphics are really good, but what good is that if you can't work with the data?

I have tried every which way I can to merge a new GED file with my main file, but so far I believe I will have to type in the entries one at a time. Although this was not perfect in PAF, the program was useful in searching out duplicate entries and giving you the opportunity to merge some data while passing other data by.

It is obvious to me that this software will be useless in any serious researcher let alone a part timer like myself. I would much prefer a more robust program without all the fancy bells and whistles.

MJEDI  Did you try, I'm assuming your 'main file' is a MacFamily Tree 5 document and it's open, going under the top pull-down menu 'Special' and selecting the 'Merge GED File with current Tree...' option?

Hope that helps.

MYSTERY TRAMP  If you miss PAF, google PAWriter. The GUI is from the PAF playbook and it's free.

You might try emailing your GEDCOM to macfamilytree@synium.de. I had my own GEDCOM issue, not as bad as yours, and a new version was available within days to handle the issue.

I've been using MFT for about a month now and I'm very satisfied. It handles photos and PDFs extremely well. Once you get your GEDCOM issue resolved, you'll find it to be robust and appreciate it's fancy bells and whistles.
