MONTY LEE  Yes you can change it in iPhoto bit only after the import--meaning all the dates are wrong initially and subsequent "filing" by iPhoto. It is much easier to do it before the import asnd results in a much cleaner import into iPhoto.

MONTY LEE  My wife's digital camera died and when she shot new pictures it put the creation and modified dates as 2038. I tried several utilities to batch change the dates. Many did not work or did it only one at a time. I tried File Buddy 9 and since I was new to the program, I did not find the trick to batch change ALL the dates. I could do it to the folder or one item, but not all of them. So I tried File Sheriff 2 and in 15 minutes had it figured out and changed the date on over 100 pictures! So I like the ease--especially for a novice.

MONTY LEE  Well I've used their automatic form in the program, all three of their addresses on the support page PLUS the email address listed in the program, two different personal email addresses AND my .mac email address, and three different computers. If they are flagging it as spam, then they have their filters set way too high. If you block all email from users, it kind of makes support non-existent.

As for the question, it was very simple: How do you capture or print ALL the podcast Episode titles, date, and description. iTunes and Podcast Maker do not wrap the description so you can never see the entire description for all the episodes. So is there a way to print this (pdf) to use as a guide?

MONTY LEE  XENOPHILE - If you read my comments, I clearly state that it most likely an interaction of Cocktail with some other program. But the fact remains that it happened consistently on three different INTEL Macs. I did SAFE boots, new accounts, et al and it still happened. Even after doing and archive and install with a new system it happened. As I pointed out, it happened when the only program that ran (automatically) was Cocktail, according to the logs and trace program. I've been using Macs since the 128, so I have a little clue on software and installation. And yes, I did contact the developer who said to uninstall the program, which I did. Since the uninstall, I've not had once single glitch on any computer at any time.

MONTY LEE  Today, 13 Oct, I called to ask about Popcorn 4 and if there was an upgrade path. The Roxio web page for upgrades (http://www.roxio.com/enu/upgrade_center/default.html?rTrack=m_sto_upgrade) results in a Toast page (for Mac) regardless of which software you click. So I called to find out and Customer Support said they had no idea about upgrades, no idea why the links were all messed up on the page, and said they could not help but to check the web site in a few hours to see if it got fixed. I think this is consistent with many comments and reviews that while the product is acceptable, the support is terrible.

***..

MONTY LEE  First, let me say up front that the software is good. It does exactly what it claims to do in that it makes it easy to publish a podcast. I have found the program reliable and stable. My complaint is that you get no support from the author. I have emailed him via his online form and email several times over the past two months with a very simple support question, and you get no response at all (no form response, no notice about delays in responding, nothing at all). Granted that developers may be swamped at times with support requests, but most will at least respond back to you in some form or refer you to FAQs or forums that may answer the question. This developer doesn't respond at all. So my caveat is that try it before you buy, and if you think you might have questions, try and get them answered before you spend your money.

Hoyle Card Games 2010
Sep 18 2009
**...

MONTY LEE  I've owned every version of the Hoyle games and had hoped this 2010 version would fix many of the previous bugs. It does not. Not only that, it introduces a slew of new problems. The "random" cards are not. After you play awhile, you will see the same characters and cards (Hearts in particular). With Canasta, all you see is the players and cards--you have NO IDEA what the meld is, what the score is, and the status of the deck. On top of that, many games (like Canasta) have removed the ability to double-click the card to play it. You have to manually drag the card to the discard pile or home area to play it or meld. Extremely tedious. This makes this game totally worthless because I want to play the game, not master my ability to drag my mouse around. Very, very disappointing. This program has so many problems it should not be sold!

Now X
Sep 4 2009
**...

MONTY LEE  I used several versions of the beta and now the final release. This version does NOT have the server (with no definite date for the server release) so you cannot share the calendar. In fact, the new format precludes readily transferring the data file to another computer (like you could with NUD 5.x). First, the file is in the Application Support folder and does not support a different location (so you can't use Drobbox). Second, the database is not truly updated until you quit Now Services (Option-Quit), meaning that you can really hose your database (I did) if you move the file.

Next, the import from NUD 5.x is OK, but fails to transfer many of the graphics, including internal graphics like New Moon, Full Moon, etc. WARNING: I found that "automatic" feature during installation and the initial run not reliable. If you do not clear iCal, you can get tons of duplicates (something pointed out many times during the beta cycle). I don't believe this was ever fixed reliably. Duplicates are a real big problem, especially as NowX sync's with iCal. For some reason once it sync's, it sees the iCal event as new and copies it to NowX. I'm on my 3rd try to get a working, reliable interface between NowX and iCal.

Frequent "mini-crashes" that bring up an alert to notify NowX, but does not seem to crash the program. Most of these occurred with manipulating graphics.

No way to copy and event and paste it on another date.

I could go on but after 3 years of waiting, this really isn't that great. I'm now downloading Daylite and Conactizer Pro to see if there is a better program out there--especially one that can work with other computers.

MONTY LEE  I understand others have no problems, and I did not until 10.5.8 and/or any other Apple System updates on my MacPro and MacBook, so I realize it could be an interaction with other programs. I run no haxies so it had to be some commercial/shareware program combined with Cocktail. I did contact the developer and forward the logs, discussion support, and other information. He said to uninstall Cocktail and repair permissions from the MacOS disc. I choose to do a new install of the system instead, which erased Cocktail. I have not yet re-installed Cocktail (out of fear) so cannot unequivocally state that it was the sole problem, which I state in my review.

Cocktail

*....

MONTY LEE  I've been a Cocktail user for some time, and upgraded when Leopard came out. I've been using it occasionally and had not trouble. About a month ago I setup the Pilot on both my laptop and desktop (ran Friday night). The defaults for the Scheduler were used, which included clear cache, repair permissions, and rotate logs, then reboot. About the same time Apple's 10.5.7 update came out. All I can say is that both computers started having major problems. Microsoft Office 2008 quit running because of permission problems. Several Apple programs (eg. Keynote, Preview) would not allow me to save any file, old or new, because I did not have permissions. No restore from Time Machine worked. A 10.5.7 Combo Update would solve the problem with reinstall of Office. Then it would happen again. After 2 weeks of testing and reinstalls, I had the laptop running fine for a week. I was using it Friday for business without any issues. On Saturday I tried to use the laptop and everything was corrupted again. The only program that ran that night (I forgot to disable it) was Cocktail. The logs show that it was the only program that ran. I ended up doing an Erase and Install of Leopard and then restored my home folder items and re-installed applications EXCEPT COCKTAIL. Needless to say that now for 4 weeks I've had no problems at all. I cannot 100% pinpoint Cocktail as it could have been an interaction Cocktail had with some other program. I do know that the problem occurred on two machines, and always the next day after Cocktail had run. Once Cocktail was removed, no problems have resurfaced. Tech Support from Microsoft, Apple, and Mac Forums have all said that Cocktail is not necessary and can cause problems. I make no claims other than without Cocktail my system is running great!

XENOPHILE  I don't understand these types of ratings, but the pattern is familiar: user has a problem he suspects is related to a particular app, so he goes to MU, sees no other reviewers have had the same problem, and confidently concludes he's dealing with crapware that deserves a one-star review. This "Power User" then carefully recites the problem behavior in as many words as possible with the caveat that he cannot be certain it is the fault of the app in question and sucker punches the developer with a one-star review.

This probably sounds crazy, but did you ever consider contacting the developer to inquire about your problem?

Toast Titanium
May 16 2009
**...

MONTY LEE  Toast 10 Titanium Pro comes with a folder of Pro Applications on the DVD. Included in that folder is a dmg file called "Sonicfire Pro Bonus Audio Tracks.dmg" which works with SonicFire Pro 5. The dmg file fails during the initial verification due to "codec overrun." Nothing I have done is able to mount the dmg, including copying to the hard drive, using other computers (3), and trying Disk Utility and Stuffit 13. I submitted the question to Roxio but in a week have not gotten any resolution (their suggestions were to update Stuffit (I have the latest version) and try removing the codecs from Quicktime. Since I was getting no where, I called today (Monday) and was on hold for 38 minutes and finally talked to Tech Support (PC expert, not a Mac expert). He said the only Mac expert they had said to remove the Quicktime codecs as that was the problem. For the life of me, I cannot see how a Quicktime Codec can interfere with trying to verify and mount a dmg file, but I did what they said. I copied the folder to another drive, deleted all the codecs, rebooted, and emptied trash. Then I tried the process all over again trying to mount the dmg file. It fails for the same reason.

I never received any update back from Roxio (turn-around is about 24-48 hours), but SmartSound (Sonicfire Pro) says they have received multiple complaints about this. So I suspect that the file is corrupt in some way, and Roxio seems very reluctant to update it or provide a download link for a valid version. Sonicfire gave me a valid link for the download. It took them less than 24 hours to solve the issue, and over 10 days for Roxio with NO SOLUTION.

The program is very good (minus Divx support) but do NOT expect any support from Roxio. DigitalRiver won't help either, although they will admit they've had lots of problems from users with Roxio with respect tot he purchase side.

Delicious Library
May 5 2009
*....

MONTY LEE  I bought this program for my DVD collection. I tried to import my collection from another program because the developer's web site says: "Delicious Library supports direct importing from a number of competing applications." It does not. This applied to only version 1 (which is not available anymore). The only import option for version 2 is via a text file, which means that the DVD covers are lost (and other information). I solicited the developer for help several times and in the past 9 months (starting in June 2008) about the import. To date I have received 1 replay that said to use version 1 to import (that was the extent of the help) and since then not a single reply. The program support is completely non-existent. Yes they have forums but you never get any responses there. I think the program is dead and the developer has given up on it.

I spent the money on their program and scanner only to get no support and a program that doesn't work as advertised. I will say that if you are starting from scratch (i.e. scanning your DVD library for the first time), the program works. It will look up the information and the information display is great. But if you have an existing library, the import from another application does not work at all, and the import from a text file will leave the records scrambled and without any graphics.

Bottom line: Buy the program if you will never need any support, because you aren't going to get any.

MONTY LEE  I agree the price is way too high, but in trying it, I feel it much simpler than Audio Hijack in that I do NOT have to play the entire book. Unless I don't know how to properly use Audio Hijack (not an unreasonable conclusion), I think you have to play the entire file to "hijack" it, whereas this program converts it directly. The 3 minute trial converted perfectly on the two files I tried.

MONTY LEE  Updater does not work. It cannot find the application. On one computer the application was in a folder in the Applications folder. Nothing you do to tell the updater where the application is works. I moved Starry Night to the applications folder and it worked. But on a MacBook Pro running 10.4.11 there is nothing that works to get the updater to work. It constantly gives the error message "Application Not Found" even though you select it in the window. Investor/RT
May 6 2004
****½

MONTY LEE  By far the most comprehensive and complete stock analysis package for the Macintosh. Investor/RT lets you track prices (via several sources, both online and terminal) and then perform complex analysis (Bollinger Bands, moving averages, candlestick, and dozens more). I/RT comes with its own language for you to write scans, back-testing analysis, and more. For anyone that needs more than the simple tools provided online, I/RT will meet any need

It runs great in OS X. My only critique is that the program has grown so powerful that the documentation lags several generations behind the program, and figuring out all the power takes a lot of time. The program also does not follow some Macintosh standards, and so common keyboard actions don't work like expected. Because of the developer's tools, it is not as Mac friendly as you'd expect. But it is stable (doesn't crash), very fast (takes advantage of dual processor Macs), and easy to initially set-up and run.

I recommend this program to any serious investor wishing to study price and volume of any commodity (stocks, bonds, options, etc.). There is no program as complete, and certainly none as powerful as Investor/RT.

DALE  Does this software have an investment growth chart comprable to that in the Micrsoft Money Deluxe toolbox that I was able to download on my PC but which does not work with the Mac,

which is an interactive chart that allows you to key in many stock market index symbols, stock symbols and mutual fund symbols and customize it from any date to any date, month date and year to month date and year, and have it show a historical performance graph comparing percentage growth, a visual showing of volatility, of these various indices and funds, comparing them visually against each other AND doing it with reinvested dividends to give you total return, not just price history? That's all I'm looking for. does this software have it? do you know of others that do? i was able to downbload it for free onn my PC from the MSN Money central website but now with my new apple Imac, the only thing I can get there is the BASIC investment toolbox, not the Deluxe one and the basic doesn't do reinvested dividends and only customizes dates by month/year.
