MOEBIAN73 Great app, but FIRE is still my 1st choice. I just wish that someone would make it accessible to IM Myspace IM users, or video chat like iChat, or something new! But no, we just get improvements on existing things like whats listed. (Version 1.0.2)

MACUPDATE ADMIN Have you heard that Fire is no longer being developed? "We are saddened to announce that there will be no future versions of Fire. There are several reasons for this end, but the most notable is the loss of developers. Fire's development had dwindled to few developers who do not wish to continue the project alone. In addition, another major contributing factor is the fact that all but one of Fire's IM libraries is no longer in active development. The good news is that two of Fire's developers have joined the Adium team and have written a transition path. Adium 1.0, upon first launch, will import your Fire accounts, away messages, groups, buddies, and logs into Adium. For future updates and IM needs, we suggest that you look at Adium." (Version 1.0.2)

ALBION Just improvements and bug fixes? I wish other developers would focus on improvements and bug fixes, instead of introducing flashy new features every few months that they can't implement properly. As for Fire... it was always quite buggy and prone to crashing. Adium just works. Props to the Adium team. (Version 1.0.2)

MOEBIAN73 What a brain dead idea. Safari d/ls flash video, why would you need this? I d/l flash video off of MySpace by just going to Safari's ACTIVITY list, and looking for it...it's so easy, even a caveman can do it. Why would you need a seperate app to do something Safari does so easily? (Version 0.9b2)

MOEBIAN73 It's a great app, but if only they would have it so that FLV videos could be shown on VLC, that would make it awesome. (Version 0.8.6a)

UMAROMC Just right/Cntrl-click the file and choose Open With... and choose VLC. OR You can Get Info on the file and set VLC to be the default app for Flash Video Files–it'll leave the icon blank but work all the time. (Version 0.8.6b)

MOEBIAN73 I havent had any problems with my Yahoo IM. I dunno why all you guys are fussin over it. It works for me just fine. The only thing I can't seem to do is look at the chat logs. How do I do that? (Version 3.0b1r2)

KPS As far as I can tell -- you can't. Nice. Yet another blatantly obvious feature that Windows users have had for years and even in 2007 Mac users still have to wait for. (Version 3.0b2)

Fire | Feb 22 2007 |
MOEBIAN73 It's the best IM app on the Mac. It needs an update though. I, for one, would LOVE IT, if FIRE did everything AIM, YAHOO, & MSN can, as far as talk support, webcam support, and game support go. Because the AIM, YAHOO & MSN IM apps Mac have now aren't even updated to the latest versions and Yahoo IM has mediocre webcam support, but that's it. It would be cool to correspond with PC users through IMs & talk or play games, like Tic Tac Toe on Yahoo IM, & webcam all in one app. Just a suggestion. (Version 1.5.6)

iCab | Aug 28 2006 |
MOEBIAN73 I downloaded iCab 3.0.3, but when I try to unDMG it, it gives me "no mountable file systems" as a warning. I've unstuffed many DMGs, why is this warning popping up? As far as iCab is concerned, I think it's a great broswer. People tend to be picky, very picky, on their browsers. They want everything...EVERYTHING. iCab is good for those slower Macs, that have little HD space, and good for browsing the web like I do. (Version 3.0.3)

MOEBIAN73 Why not just have a select few to test your betas then? Some developers do that. A public download is a public download. There's no difference. It's all public. Not like Adium's site is a private webpage, it's as public as this site. I don't see why one site that's open to the public is different from another site that's open to the public just as much as the other site. If you have these kinds of weird rules, you should pick 30 volunteers who know what they're doing & have them test your betas. One critique about the beta: You should add Portuguese in future releases. (Version 0.89.1)

MOEBIAN73 Anyway, Adium is probably the best IM app out there, except for FIRE. I once used ADIUM, & then I started to look back, (it says, "and you won't look back"). To really win me over though, it would be nice to add a MYSPACE IM feature, which every Mac IM app doesn't currently have at the moment. It would be cool to have a feature like that. I use FIRE just because of the e-mail alert feature. (Version 1.0b8)

MOEBIAN73 That's lame. Every Mac app/game should be listed on here...beta or not. IT IS A MAC ITEM IS IT NOT? That's just not right. So you think your so great, MacUpdate/Versiontracker isn't good enough? You get exposure this way. You are totally out of your mind if you wanna delist from this site, or similiar sites. SUBLINEAR It's not that Adium shouldn't be listed here, it's just that these betas aren't made for general consumption (the dev team asked that they not get posted anywhere until the final version is out)... (Version 1.0b8)

SWGS1 Adium .89.1 is a beta, we all know this, we are all ok with it, it works well. But it is also the intended release download for all users of Adium. The Adium development team always has newer builds available that they are currently working on. This has always been the case with Adium. But so as not to confuse the general Mac downloading public, they would prefer if these development betas not be posted on sites like MacUpdate, VT, and Digg, because it draws lots of attention to a release that does not yet deserve our attention. I know it's trendy for all apps to release public betas nowadays, it might be easy to forget that there was a time when websites like VT and Macupdate didn't list all that many beta versions, because most betas were private and granted by invitation only. Respect the developers wishes, they are the reason Adium keeps getting better. (Version 0.89.1)

JIM RIBS "If you have these kinds of weird rules, you should pick 30 volunteers who know what they're doing & have them test your betas." They do, they are called beta testers and check for bugs in the software. Next time do some research before you flame. (Version 0.89.1)

MU5TI What is your problem, moeb? It took me less than one minute to find the beta from Adium's own site and download. This is not your mother's internet where everyone has to spoon feed you. You do your search, you download your stuff. Just because the Adium team is a bit obsessed with quality and they want to release a proper beta does not entitle you to flame your nonsense here. Grow up. Or go back to your MySpace and flame your friends there. (Version 0.89.1)

MACUPDATE ADMIN The real issue here is that someone (either an over-eager fanboy of Adium or someone who likes to cause trouble) submitted the Adium update to us here at MacUpdate when they should not have. I don't know who here at MacUpdate accepted this errant submission, but I've been burnt this way, maybe a year ago. I accepted what I thought to be a bona fide update of Adium and it turned out that the developers of Adium did not want that particular version posted. Everyone over-reacted as if I'd hit some little old lady over the head, when it was just an honest mistake. Since then, when an Adium update submission comes to *my* attention, I call a private investigator to have it checked out before I post it. (That's a joke, ok? Relax...) People need to chill out. Myself included. There are more important things in life to get upset about. (Version 0.89.1)
