MATTHEW GREEN for those of you updating to snow leopard, please make sure you re-enable the dock icon otherwise you get a constantly spawning/crashing application that requires a hard reset. if you have this problem, delete your ecoute preference in your ~/library/Preferences folder and the ecoute folder in the ~/library/application support folder and do not try and hide the dock icon (Version 1.2.5)

MATTHEW GREEN dude, seriously… take a deep breath and calm down last.fm has been supported from the beginning, it's the whole point of using this rather than iTunes + 3rd party controller to give you global hot keys, last.fm scobbling and something nice on your desktop etcetc. it's still using less memory than iTunes though a bit more than the previous version but I'm sure the dev will have some kind of breakthrough like he did a while ago. While I don't care much for facebook and don't intend on using it that way (I have last.fm on my facebook if anyone wanted to look at my music tastes) Twitter support is handy if I feel like sharing what's playing to as it saves me typing stuff out. It really is not that big a deal, you don't have to use it as it's hardly intrusive and no one is holding a gun to your head. (Version 1.2)

MATTHEW GREEN simply put, it's a remixed geektool that uses less ram and has handy features like tick box option for expose border, magnetizing your log fields so they cling to each other. The best bit is the one window interface which uses today's interface conventions to put everything that geektool was into one window making it easier to set up. (Version 0.5)

MATTHEW GREEN that's some great work then, just implemented it in next to no time. would have been faster if i had set some of my app cpu and ram monitors to 4 lines rather than just making the boxes smaller. bit of adjustment to the positions of some boxes and I'm done. BALTHAMOS I believe it uses less memory :). It's less buggy and offers a new log type, Quartz composer, has many tools to aid in log placement during setup, and many more features now and to come. You can import your logs from GeekTool2 through the preferences window so you can try it out for yourself with minimal setup. (Version 0.5)

MATTHEW GREEN intriguing little application. It's like iTunes and BowTie wrapped into one, only with not so much theme support (yet) not that I mind, I've found a nice theme I can stick with. But Ecoute does have one benefit over BowTie, when using expose to show desktop, the artwork stays just where it is memory usage however is a little over what iTunes uses running solo including Ecoute's little helper application (what that's for I'm not sure but could be the mini window) but if your running BowTie or something else to get global shortcuts and last.fm scrobbling you are actually saving some memory. I am missing the ability to show lyrics and the tick box to enable/disable the playback of certain songs from iTunes. I would like to see an options to remove the entry in Mac os' cmd tab function as I've set up keyboard shortcuts to access the app and would prefer not to have the app cluttering with my frantic cmd tabbing. Without me having to try and hack it of course. (Version 1.0.9)

I made a comparison between iTunes and Ecoute. After a day, iTunes uses up to 200MB or RAM, and only 55-60MB for Ecoute. http://www.ecouteapp.com/ecoute/itunesvsecoute.jpg (However, it also depends of the size of your iTunes library - I've got more than 4000 tracks) (Version 1.0.9)

MATTHEW GREEN very promising app, it's like a lot of the things i've suggested for coversutra have been picked up here. (lyrics display/retrieval, start/quit with itunes) while the menubar controls are nice i'm missing the floating window controls/rating ability of coversutra oh and the music search too i'd say go copy coversutra some more and you'll have lots of happy people because it seems like the dev just isn't listening to the users or improving the app despite the fact it's a paid for app the apple remote support needs fixing btw, it breaks the remote entirely (hopes it works after a restart) (Version 4.1)

MATTHEW GREEN interesting, perhaps a good replacement for the ppc only iconverter but that can make windows icons and other things.....you say it supports windows icons but i assume you mean taking windows icons and converting them into mac icons unless i'm missing something of course feels too minimistic for me and keep having to refer to the help (not really a good idea to have online help) but i think the saving as a resource fork is a great feature take a look at iconverter (it hasn't been updated in 4 years) and expand on both of these and it will be excellent! MACUPDATE ADMIN The developer has responded to my email and it would appear that ClamXav is, for whatever reason, falsely reporting the contents of Cubes.zip as being infected. (Version 1.40)

Cubes | Sep 7 2006 |
SYZZYGY Interestingly, only the OS X download contains the Oversized.zip "infection". I scanned the Windows version of Cubes 1.4 with Clam X and it was clean (The OS X download won't open on my Mac, anyway). Here's some info about Oversized.zip: At 05:02 AM 10/5/2005, TAC Forums wrote: >Can somebody please point me to some info about the viruses that use the logical bombs like oversized.zip ? No actual viruses use this technique, but fall under the rather vague category of "malicious files." These aren't real viruses, just a specially created small zip file that will expand to a very large or infinite size, with the intent to fill the hard drive of anyone who tries to unzip the file. The files by themselves don't cause any harm, but filling a hard drive can cause a Denial of Service until someone deletes the offending file. These aren't new; they appeared shortly after zip files first appeared. It then didn't take long before someone noticed that you could crash AV scanners by feeding them one of these. Now, all antivirus scanners detect these and will either alert the user or just not scan them. ClamAV is configurable, and can either detect or ignore, whichever

Cubes | Sep 8 2006 |
GRASS GAMES No, its a bogus virus report. Used both OSX and Stuffit to archive the (scanned and uninfected) Cubes.app program, and the resulting zip file always gets reported as having the Oversized.zip virus. It doesn't have any viruses, 100%. You could probably reproduce this problem by unzipping the program, deleting the zip file, scanning the unzipped program (Cubes.app) to ensure its clean, and zipping it again, and (on Intel Macs anyway) it will probably still give the bogus virus warning.
