>>DVD video is 720x480, a 3:2 aspect

No, DVD video is 4:3 or 16:9 aspect, please note that in DVD piels are not square, so the aspect is never 3:2.

>>it won't do the 854x480 of true anamorphic 16:9 used in DVDs

No, anamorphic 16:9 DVDs are also 720x480.

The current version encodes MOV and MP4 fine. The 3 components are not included to comply with their license.

I install in /usr/bin for historical reasons, as in the past binaries were installed manually, and some 10.2 systems miss /usr/local/bin, so the process was simpler for users if it involved a directory existing on all systems. Also, having them in /usr/bin/ allow to avoid conflicts with user-compiled binaries which could and often already exist in /usr/local/bin/. I plan to move the components to /Library/Applications Support/, though the move will be made for a major release (to avoid all users reinstalling again on a minor release, and given anyway the fact that keeping mpeg2enc and mencoder in /usr/bin has no consequence whatsoever on the system nor in the BSD layer).

Installer now fixed.

If you still get problems with the installer, download again 0.0.9i. I uploaded a new version which should fix all the issues. In case of problems, email me to major4@mac.com.

Starting from next release, I will drop the Apple Package-style installer and will include a self-installer inside the ffmpegX application.

Reply to latest post. /1/ pbpaste and pbcopy are not system components, they're BSD subsystem CLI utilities. Sometimes they're missing, so they must be installed to cope with this eventuality. /2/ dlcompat is the interface for dynamic loading of GNU modules. It is needed by libogg and libvorbis. You can disable its install if you like, by clicking on the installer options.
