Please enlighten me;-)

HEAVY_BABY  First, Acqlite is not my own product. It was pozytron's.

But I have joined to the project to import Cabos core into Acqlite.

Second, Cabos is written in Rapid Development Environment. It's easy to handle for me.

Xupport
Jan 12 2008

MACROXX  I have a problem with invisible files. Xupport made them visible, but it can't make them invisible again. I tried it several times, but Xupport always fails to make them invisible. Xupport also has problems finding the Terminal... I wonder where I have hidden it. Ohh, it's in the standard folder, I haven't moved the Terminal out of it. But Xupport keeps asking for the Terminal.

Xupport says it's the "swiss army knife" and that might be true, because both don't really work.

iArchiver
Dec 10 2007

MACROXX  Very nice archiving tool.

The about box says something about "The swiss army knife for archiving", but that's not true! iArchiver is much better than a swiss army knife. Swiss army knifes suck at archiving and iArchiver is an Austrian tool (thank god !).

iArchiver is THE Austrian Archiver.

My grandpa always said: "Never try to hide behind a swiss army knife, that doesn't help." Well, I think Crocodile Dundee would agree.

$IR M.  Seconded.

From what I can determine, author Tommy Pavlicek was a recent high school graduate who grew disenchanted with software development after RapidWeaver stole Site Studio's thunder. He appears to have moved on ... not just to university, but to a lucrative career as a world-class poker player!

It's really a shame, though: this unfairly-overlooked app fairly drips with elegance. It hums along just fine under 10.4.11 and packs some amazing capabilities, given its tiny footprint.

BitClamp
Nov 2 2007

MACROXX  What does BitClamp offer ?

- easy to use interface

- encryption (up to 128 Bit AES)

- Gzip compression

- Price tag: $ 20

What does BetterZip offer ?

- easy to use interface

- encryption (up to 256 Bit AES)

- several different compression options (encryptable are zip, 7zip and rar)

- Price tag: $ 19.95

What does Compress Files offer ?

- easy to use interface

- encryption (up to 256 Bit AES)

- several different compression options (encryptable are zip, 7zip and dmg)

- Price tag: $ 9.95

What does SimplyRAR offer ?

- easy to use interface

- encryption (128 Bit AES)

- rar compression

- Price tag: $ 0 = free !

Comparison inspired by BitClamp's claim of being "Light weight" (quote from its description) :

BitClamp's size: 13.1 MB

BetterZip's size: 8.7 MB

Compress Files' : 7.4 MB

SimplyRAR's size: 1.4 MB

Conclusion: there is a lot of competition out there. Other programs offer better encryption (as far as I know 256 Bit AES is more secure than 128 Bit AES) and/or they offer better compression formats (7zip and rar usually create smaller archives than Gzip) and/or they cost less.

Oct 16 2007

JPPAGLIARO  Okay, so I just updated DropImageURL so that it can output into various graphic file formats: TIFF, BMP, JPEG, PNG, PICT, Photoshop, QuickTime, MacPaint and JPEG2000.

I also added a preferences window for configuring various other options:

1) You can specify a scale factor as a percentage.

2) You can specify an output directory

3) You can opt to have the comment set to the URL being imaged

4) You can have the program automatically open the generated file, or select it in the Finder.

I also added some items to the Dock menu for

1) accessing preferences

2) imaging the frontmost window of your web browser.

I have numerous other features on the queue, but I am open to suggestions!

PDFInfo
Jun 5 2007

MACROXX  This program could become a very nice PDF tool.

Suggestion:

It would be great if one could save presets (so that you don't have to retype the same information).

Problems:

All the changed texts start with two strange and unwanted characters (which look like "yp", you can see them with the program "Preview" in the "Document information" window in the "Details" section).

All the changed texts have unwanted spaces between every letter.

Maybe the described problems occured because I did something wrongly, but I don't think so.
