MACINEN  Forgive me if I'm blind, but exactly where can you import bookmarks? I have looked over every possibility in menus and buttons. Don't get it.

MACINEN  Same thing, Echorob. I don't even bother trying if I don't get my Safari bookmarks into Google Chrome. How else can you try, remembering and typing every adress?

Opera
Oct 29 2009

MACINEN  Thanks Steven Goodheart and Orion. I found the solution to the problem and still blame Opera: The bookmarks.plist stays gray (not choosable) and the html form from Safari (to the desktop) stays gray too. I have the newest Snow Leopard on MacPro 8-core and I have MBP from this summer. The same thing with the laptop, btw.

The problem was language! Opera is automatically taking finnish as my language (OSX). When I changed Opera's language to english the bookmarks were imported just fine. (Then I had to change back to finnish again and destroy the english prefs). I think this is something they should look at in the Opera-company: importing should work with every language.

STEVEN GOODHEART  You're most welcome! Glad you figured it out why it wasn't working for you....don't know that I would have! Best wishes, Steve

Opera
Oct 28 2009

MACINEN  It's quite long time ago since I last tried Opera, and still the same problem as then: Opera won't import my Safari bookmarks (and can not find Firefox bookmarks). Yes, it finds the right place in my own library/Safari/bookmarks.plist, but you can't choose it because it's grayed out! Exactly the same thing as before! And I have different machine as then.

I have very very many bookmarks and I am not going to put them all in opera manually. So goodbye again Opera.

STEVEN GOODHEART  MACINEN:

I was surprised at your post -- I was pretty sure I had painlessly imported my Safari bookmarks when I first tried out Opera 10.0.

So, I just tried it again: Bookmarks >Manage Bookmarks, then to File Menu and Import and Export > Import Safari Bookmarks.

Did that, in about 2 seconds 4,000 plus Safari bookmarks were sitting there in a new folder called Safari Bookmarks. Ditto, Firefox, which also has over 4,000 bookmarks.

I'm using Safari 4.0.3 on Snow Leopard on a Duo Core iMac.

Wonder what the difference is between our two systems, that I get success and you a fail?

Btw, to avoid this kind of hassle, I use the amazing Bookdog to sync my bookmarks between browsers -- I use Firefox 3.0, Safari, iCab, and my main squeeze, OmniWeb, and Bookdog keeps everything in perfect sync, even dealing with the fact that Firefox doesn't allow the kind of dupes that the other browsers do.

Anyway, this isn't an ad for Bookdog - just wanted to say that Safari bookmark import flawlessly into Opera 10.0, and ditto on my laptop.

Also, if you really want to give Opera 10 a shot, and you can't get Opera's built-in import to work, just go to Safari, open the Bookmarks window and do an Export Bookmarks from the File Menu. In just a few seconds, you'll have a html file that Opera can open easily. Just tried it out to be sure, and again, my 4,000 plus Safari bookmarks were in Opera in a flash.

ORION MK. V  Super easy import of Safari bookmarks. Not quite sure why you're having trouble, but check the help for Opera. I still prefer Safari, but Opera is fast, stable and a good and the new Unite is interesting.

Pixelmator

MACINEN  Would be nice to try Pixelmator, because so many people recommend it. But: There is no RAW format and I shoot exclusively in raw, so I don't even bother trying. Any chance of getting the raw support to Pixelmator?

MACINEN  What are you (or some of you) complaining about? Just because it's from Microsoft? Didn't you know there is mac-people in MS who are committed to doing mac-things.

Anyway, this driver works very well with my new Arc Mouse (white), amazingly solid driver. One of the good things is that there is this option "handled by mac os" in every choice of buttons (one advantage compared to f.ex. SteerMouse). Keep up the good work!

MACINEN  Doesn't work with MS LifeCam NX-6000 :( Macam says the cam is not connected. I'm using the latest Leopard (10.5.6) on a MacPro. Applications like PhotoBooth and Skype are working ok by the OS, but the picture quality needs tuning badly. The Picture is much overbright and lacks color (the white balance is way off). Please developer try to make macam work with nx-6000.

MACINEN  I like the versatility of the program, but I don't seem to figure out how to get the "Stack -> add a recent Items Stack" to work? I have clicked the Add-button for a thousand of times but nothing happens, it doesn't change my dock. Or is this feature working only with the english OSX?

USB Overdrive X
Mar 2 2008

MACINEN  Excellent so far, but couple of bugs with version 10.4.8: If you have wireless Mighty Mouse the System Preferences stops showing the charge of the mouse. Another one is that with Logitech V470 (bluetooth) mouse the clicked wheel scroll (up or down) doesn't work; Overdrive doesn't recognize it. Waiting for an update for this otherwise great driver.

MACINEN  Great editing software! I almost always get better results with Capture NX than PS (except when I need many layers or need more graphical changes to a picture). The resulting picture (taken with D80) has less noise and is somehow more clear than wiht PS, I just don't know why. From the tools Color control point is the most amazing thing - fast and efective means to a great picture. Keep up the great work!

MACINEN  The degree-sign is not correct now. It was in the previous version. Instead of the degree-circle there is now a small 1/4-number??? I trashed the prefs and it didn't help.

And Xypher, there has been celsius even in previous version.

MACINEN  I bought my Microsoft Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 today and downloaded the driver from the disk(6.1). Great - Unbelevably well done driver for Mac - and from Microsoft! I haven't even seen this latest driver (6.21) but will download it shortly. Goodbye Logitech and USBOverdriveX!

MACINEN  Great player and has lots of potential. The Gui is excellent! This is my whishlist for update: wisible playlist (during playback), save preferences like equalizer! (all my custom sound editing was lost), remaining time for the piece, random play. Anyway thanks so far!

Thunderbird

MACINEN  I really like the feel of this program. But I'm still not sure this is THE one for me. I'd like to see some better mail notification for new messages - the extension iAlert has not been updated to Intel and Growl is too big for just this program. Something like the "Mail Notification"-extension for Mail.app would be great.

You promise this feature: "Improved New Mail Notification Alerts: New mail alerts include information such as the subject, sender and message preview text." Now, where is it? I can't find it; In preferences there is only icon animating and sound for new messages?
