MACRAND  Excellent word game, very challenging. Have been playing for years. Recommended highly.

One tip is to focus on the name of the author for clues first, then common 3, 2 or 1 letter words. Easy to change your mind.

CanoScan Toolbox

NEMESYS: "I would very much so like to know how you can run this version of the Toolbox on a MacBook Pro"

Well, I have just (1) opened CanoScan Toolbox 5.0.1.2 (2007) on my MacBookPRO running Leopard OS X 15.5.5, and (2) performed a scan...

so I'm having a hard time understanding your problem. Be sure to PLUG IN your Canon scanner into your USB port otherwise Toolbox will NOT open, but then a small warning box should popup and tell you exactly that and how to remedy the situation.

I checked MacUpDate regarding your claim, but it clearly states "PPS/Intel" Mac compatible. Rosetta or Native should not be a limitation on using this program.

Besides the point of my original comment was that instead of using Toolbox, I use the CanoScan PLUGIN for Adobe Photoshop 9.0.2 (CS2); you choose. The PLUGIN advantage when selecting File : Import : CanoScan LiDE 70 is that your Menu in Adobe Photoshop is far more versatile and permits a Preview scan before the actual Scan itself, and the image display is huge for both. If you have Photoshop, it is by far the better way to scan using a CanoScan through the plugin.

Also, I was in Fry's Electronics today and checked out Canon's latest mobile printer offering, the new iP100. I think it's new specifications are truly awesome, a giant leap over the previously incredible i70 & i90 models, and also when compared to the HP offering. However, I liked the i90's more angular case design better than the rounded new case, especially the way the old battery option case looked when attached to the rear of the printer...but that's just me.

MACRAND  While using CanoScan ToolBox directly works well, I much prefer to access it through Adobe Photoshop as a plugin. The menu is excellent, provides a pre-scan, allows you to size it, and lets you scan one or multiple pages. Excellent product, excellent value, seamless operation.

My CanoScan 70 is the 3rd I've owned and used, and is perfect for a mobile office along with a Canon i90 mobile printer, they both fit in a small Samsonite bag on wheels and go anywhere with my MacBookPRO. I highly recommend the CanoScan scanners, the Canon i90 printer, and the ToolBox software, especially the Photoshop plug-in. 5 stars out of 5

NEMESYS  I would very much so like to know how you can run this version of the Toolbox on a MacBook Pro. As far as I know, the driver for the LiDE scanners is PPC only which prevent an Intel-based application from loading it, including PhotoShop CS3, unless you're some sort of magician. I tried to launch the Toolbox under Rosetta but didn't get any luck. I was still unable to choose the driver. If anybody knows how to do that, that would be awesome!

MONFAM  I have been trying repeatedly to get my CanoScan LiDE 70 and the CanoScan Toolbox to work with my iMac and MacBook, both of which are running Leopard. After re-downloading drivers, toolbox, etc., multiple times, I still had no success. Every time I click Scan in the toolbox, I'm told that it can't find the driver, even though I know that the driver is installed.

I finally came across this great tip. While I'm not sure how to find the plug-in for scanning to Photoshop CS3, this post gave me the idea to try scanning directly in Photoshop. After opening my PS CS3, I went to File>Import and sure enough, the LiDE 70 was listed as an import option. Chose this, which brought up the Photoshop Scan window and had no problem at all scanning my photos. Even tried it in my Acrobat Professional and was able to scan PDFs (something else I'd been trying to do).

Thank goodness for Google and the internet. Problem solved, thanks to this helpful post!

MACRAND  If it works for you, what level of Mac OS X are you running?

I'm having no luck running it with Panther OS X 10.3.4

How about you?

Use re-writeable DVD-RW discs to avoid wasteful "coasters"

The newest DVDs may have code builtin that "crashes" DVDBackup specifically, or even prevents if from launching for use with their DVD. Good protection for them so far.

MACRAND  Trying to rip 4 different non-movie DVDs resulted in 1 crashing DVDBackup 1.3 repeatedly, then while seemingly working with the others, the results was an unplayable DVD - suspect Apple has changed something in one of the Updates to Panther so that 10.3 prevents DVDBackup from working. Wonder if it is intentional or accidental by Apple.

Recommend using DVD-RW which can be erased and used again to check results before creating useless DVD-R coasters. Any Jaguar 10.2 users having success?

The price of being too current with OS X updates to 10.3 may be a useless DVDBackup app until it gets fixed. bummer
