ScreenRecord

MACGUY_81  I would highly recommend checking out some alternatives to this app such as iShowU or Screenflick before purchasing.

Snapz Pro X
Dec 20 2008

MACGUY_81  $29 is too much for Snapz Pro, IMO. Mac's built-in Grab handles nearly every still-screenshot need you might have for free (although some of the features are a bit hidden). And for movies, there are many alternatives which I think are better, such as iShowU, Screenflick, etc. Combine the two, and you have a cheaper, more robust, and more up-to-date way of taking care of all your screen capture needs.

(btw, tips on using the macs built in screen-capture:)

Command-Shift-4 to select an area of the screen

Command-Shift-3 to capture the whole screen

Command-Shift-4, then spacebar, to capture a specific window

*Hold down the control key with any of the above to copy the captured image to the clipboard instead of a file

and here's a post on how to change the file format, too (from PNG to JPG or w/e you want): http://bravobug.com/news/?p=155

Snapz Pro X
Dec 22 2008

AMBROSIASW  It is true that Apple has been taking tips from us in creating a much better ability to capture screen shots. Snapz is an older product, and what once set us apart has now been becoming an industry standard amongst our competitors. There are a great many options that Snapz Pro X still does above and beyond what you have stated above. Also we are hoping that the successor for Snapz will be available in the near future that should impress even the most rigid of those who feel ill towards our venerable Snapz Pro X. To learn more about our future products please visit our webboards, or sign up for our announcement lists.

EasyBatch
Dec 7 2008

MACGUY_81  You may want to check out version 1.2 of EasyBatch, which is available at http://bravobug.com/easybatch

A number of new features have been added, the EXIF data bug from 1.0 has been fixed, the interface has been given a refresh, etc.

Also, when EasyBatch tells you that 'errors' occurred, this is to let you know that there were problems with your image files (ie, a file marked as JPEG was damaged and couldn't be opened), or a system occurred during processing, this isn't a problem with EasyBatch itself.

Thanks for trying it out

Audacity
Oct 4 2008

MACGUY_81  Audacity is a really great tool but it has always been a bit buggy when I've used it. I personally switched to Amadeus. But Audacity is definitely worth looking into!

MACGUY_81  Amadeus continues to impress me. A really well-put-together, solid sound editor. Highly recommended.

NetShred X
Oct 4 2008

MACGUY_81  This seems like a exploitative and uneccessary piece of software, considering all major browsers provide many ways of doing this automatically, for free. There are many different scripts that can be run which will do this for free, automatically, in the background.

Or just choose 'Private Browsing' in Safari or 'Clear Private Data' in FireFox, etc.

NetShred X

BURNINGTHUMB  If you clear private data without using a secure delete, ask this reviewer suggests, those private items are recoverable by many off the shelf file recovery tools. If you "forget" to enable private browsing you could leave a lot of private information around - NetShred runs automatically so you don't forget to run it.

MiLife
Jun 27 2008

MACGUY_81  It should be noted that MiLife was selected as an Apple.com Staff Pick. To lambaste its interface as non-standard seems a little strange. All of its controls are standard OS X controls which adhere to the HIG. Furthermore, if the drawer itself distracts you, try clicking the disclosure triangle to reduce it, and use the command keys or menu items instead, all of which provide convenient access to MiLife's features.

MiLife
Jun 5 2008

MACGUY_81  MiLife is intended to provide a more simple and streamlined approach to creative writing than some of the commercial journaling programs.

The response to MiLife has been so surprising, however, that I'm already working on a new update (v1.1 at the time of this post) and am actively listening to users as far as what features they want to see in future releases.

Please give MiLife a try, and if it doesn't meet your needs, send me an E-mail and let me know how I can make it better!

Thanks for trying MiLife and I hope you will have fun using it.
