Voice Candy
Nov 20 2009
**...

MAC007  I downloaded this for free via the Macheist offer and I'm glad I did. Several of the effects are not all that great which makes this app mediocre in my humble opinion. The Old Radio, Phone, Bad Sci-Fi, and Sore Throat should be improved or replaced. Chipmunk and Mouse are good but are too similar. Vadar, Robot, and Mouse are probably the best. I would say if the developer improves on the present offering and adds more voice effects it would be worth buying. Until that happens I suggest prospective buyers download it first and make sure it's what you're willing to pay for.

MAC007  That's why it's good there are developers who make encryption tools like PGP. It's a brave new world and those who aren't prepared will be hurt and those who are stand the best chance of avoiding harm. Either way it's coming and there's no stopping it.

MAC007  I've tried repairing permissions several times and restarting several times plus I even opened a test user account and switched to that and got the same results. Unless someone comes up with a fix I'll just have to live without this application.

MAC007  Well it seems Skitch is having it's problems upon upgrading like a lot of my programs are lately. I don't know what Apple did but they have really messed things up for some developers lately. All I can do is send in bug reports to both companies and hope they get it fixed. I feel like I'm using a Windows computer!

JEFFISHERETOO  Not that this helps but no issues here and running latest SL. If you haven't already try repairing permissions to ensure some directory used to store or extract the updates isn't set improperly.

PABLITO  Yep, it's a issue with Safari permissions after it's update this week. I had the same problem trying to opening applications, but after a restart, everything comes better. Only now I discovered the problems with Safari. I think everything is on the track again ...

MAC007  Well I've tried several times to download this and when I try to copy it to my computer it gives some kind of cryptic error message and won't do it. I can't very well review it if it won't copy off the disk image so I'll have to wait until they fix it.

MAC007  Well unfortunately this version won't even launch without crashing right away. I've been to the developers website and posted a report there and have found this is not an isolated problem plus they have only 3 employees. If you're having problems be patient as they're doing the best they can. Sure hope they can get this bug fixed as for now this app is useless to me.

MAC007  I've only had this for a short time but it's not that bad for a beta application. If you're looking to consolidate all your internet communication apps this just might be what you're looking for. The interface is fairly easy to master and set up is too. The nice thing is you can use it for free if you only use some of the basic features like instant messaging and email. For the more advanced features they have several no contract plans plus you can use them on a pay-as-you-go basis. It's also nice that they have software for both Mac and Windows PC's. As for bugs I've only experienced 1 or 2 so far. You really should go to their website and check out all the features available plus the different plans available to decide if it's worth it to you to try it.

***..

MAC007  Not a bad application but needs a few things to make it even better.

1. The menu bar should be more centered over the uBar Apple menu so it looks like a regular menu.

2. There should be a way to add frequently used applications to uBar Apple menu. (e.g. calculator)

3. 'Show Quick Launch Items' button when pressed does nothing as does 'Show Start Menu Items' button. I presume this is something the developer is working on.

4. An easier way to widen task bar would be nice plus the ability to place task bar on top as well as bottom of screen.

MAC007  Nice application that needs a customizable Apple menu like Fruitmenu provided and needs a fix for the icon display problem under Snow Leopard. The icons are too tiny in the task bar and nothing in the applications settings will fix it. I had no problem with this under Leopard.

MAC007  Here's Unsanity's postal address:

Unsanity LLC

4340 E. Indian School Rd Ste. 21-501

Phoenix, AZ 85018

USA

Maybe someone in Phoenix could visit them and see if they're still there. If they're not it could be that they've flown the coop so to speak.

MAC007  Unfortunately MooSB doesn't work on Intel Macs which is unfortunate as that's the future. It was fun while it lasted though. Maybe the developer will update it unless they've gone on to other and more important things.

MAC007  I've been using Unsanity's software for years and have had very few problems. One thing that helps is that after installing new software I always repair disk permissions and follow Unsanity's instructions. They always recommend that you either log out and then log back in or restart your computer after installation. I do both and found this does the trick. This new version of Xounds is no different and upon logging back in I found everything worked fine. I only dropped the main rating one star due to their poor communication of what's going on to end users. This is one feature they really need to improve.

MAC007  I've bought both the desktop app and the iPhone app and both work flawlessly. The interface is simple and yet can be adapted to your particular style of organizing things from sticking everything into the in box and prioritizing later to organizing by projects. The synchronization between apps is great and very helpful when you think of a new task on the road. Just enter the task on your iphone and it instantly syncs with your desktop at home or work. The price is quite reasonable in my opinion. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is to challenge the developers to always keep making improvements.

Spore

*****

MAC007  I've found Spore to be a fun little game that due to it's open ended nature allows you to play it again and again with the only limits being one's imagination. Hard core gamers may consider it too simplistic but for those of us who just want some simple entertainment without having to master millions of convoluted commands this one fits the bill. As for the DRM system it's not really that bad. You can reinstall the game on any one computer as much as you want without problems. It's only if you try to install it on more than 3 different computers that you have to get the developers permission.

MAC007  I let this installer do it's thing but was a bit concerned by it's need to have unrestricted system access. Since I have Little Snitch installed I decided to give it a try anyway. So far it looks good but I still have concerns over why they need unrestricted system access.

MAC007  Very interesting about them not selling TamTam any more. You can't buy it but you can still download it. I just did. I figure I'll give it a try and see if it works. If it does I'll then try TomTom's software and see which is better. The sad thing is if they had offered this as freeware the people at TomTom would have probably never bothered them.

MAC007  If you're having trouble launching stuffit after upgrading to Tiger (OS 10.4) the simplest solution is to redownload the installer and install a fresh version.

When you launch it make sure the preference to automatically check for updates is unchecked.
