iTunes Current Song Menu
Nov 10 2009

LOUNGE DELUXE  I too find the $20 for this app too expensive, especially considering what simple task this app does. There are a number of similar apps out there that are either far less expensive or even free, but of course it's completely up to the dev what he wants to charge for his product. I think $5 would be reasonable, but YMMV.

MISHA  Supposedly it's just better range.

Which, if it's anything like the Might Mouse, will be quite welcome. I often lose connectivity with the 2008 keyboard at distances of 15-20 feet (even if only for a second or two), while my MacBook Pro happily connects to the Magic Mouse when it's 35 feet away with walls in between (concrete/steel frame construction in part, too).

LOUNGE DELUXE  I agree, SteerMouse is a wonderful addition to (in my case) the Mighty Mouse, and above all customer support is excellent.

I'm convinced SteerMouse will be updated soon for the Magic Mouse (if necessary at all?). Now how sweet would it be if the dev is able to program new finger gestures replacing the side buttons and the button under the scroll wheel of the Mighty Mouse!

LOUNGE DELUXE  Again when updating from within Safari I get this error message: "Update Error! An error occurred while extracting the archive. Please try again later.".

I think SafariCookies is a terrific 'plugin' and I can't imagine my computer life without it, and I don't mind downloading the update and installing it manually, but what's the point of an integrated update function when it doesn't work? SC is freeware so I'm not blaming the dev in any way, I'm just expressing my wish for a fix of this error.

LOUNGE DELUXE  I'm just being curious here, but why would you want to reorganize the list of files before applying a rename command?

I fully agree with you, ABFR is a wonderful and very feature rich app and product support is excellent. For future releases I'd like to see more possibilities for editing tags of music files.

LOUNGE DELUXE  I agree, goSecure is nice but very very basic and not quite feature rich. Some development over time would be nice, the last update was 16 months ago! I emailed a couple of feature suggestions to the developer but he didn't do anything with them.

LOUNGE DELUXE  Obviously Spotlight is not a core OS feature that is required in general because I had it already disabled in OS X 10.5 and it never resulted in an error or inability to perform a specific OS task. OS X allows you to disable it, and like I wrote before there is no need at all to use Spotlight because of the SSD with its blazing fast read capabilities and extremely low seek times (0.1ms versus at least 12ms for a regular hdd). EasyFind serves all my purposes.

My question was if Tags 2.0 would run without Spotlight or not.

LOUNGE DELUXE  Steep upgrade price of $19.95. Pity, especially considering the fairly high full version purchase price for an app that just composes business cards. It is my guess that BeLight reckons potential buyers of BCC will be professionals with plenty of cash. Seems like I'll have to continue using version 4 (that pretty much serves my purpose).

MACSOLU  Bad call to disable Spotlight. Tags v2 depends on it, and a significant amount of OS components and Apple apps and 3rd-party apps also depend on it. Don't fight Spotlight; just accept it as a core OS feature that's pretty much required at this point.

LOUNGE DELUXE  LS already phones home when you enter your registration number, so I don't see how an update function would be contrary to the function of LS. I mean you'd still get warned by LS that it tries to contact its servers to check for an updated version. And I've never come across an app with an update function build in that didn't have the option to be switched on or off.

BravoTunes
Jul 18 2009
*****

LOUNGE DELUXE  This little free gem shows several iTunes fields like artist and title of the current song playing (and those of the next song in line) in the menu bar. There's lots of options to set like font, color, scroll or static, scroll speed, width of statusbar etc. and they all speak for itself. It would be great if in a future version we will be able to choose from every field that iTunes offers (like track time, genre etc.) but that's just a request, as the current options are great as they are.

CPU usage is around 4,8 (scroll feature on) or 3,3 (scroll feature off) on my MBP 2,93Ghz, and it would be nice if the developer will be able to lower these numbers on further development of BravoTunes. I can't really say much about stability other then that during the short period that I've used BravoTunes so far it has proven stable.

Very nice app and highly recommended!

TinkerTool System

LOUNGE DELUXE  I bought Tinkertools System 1.0 more then 4 years ago, so it's not like we have to upgrade every year. In the mean time the developer kept updating this app over and over again and even made it Leopard compatible, all done without an additional license fee. Technical support is truly excellent, on more than one occasion I bugged him with (not always very clever) questions and every time he responded to them within a few hours (even during the weekend).

I therefor have no trouble at all to pay the full price again, after all the developer has to make a living just as the rest of us and I consider the price fair.

LOUNGE DELUXE  I emailed the developer because I had an small issue with iTunesFS, and even though I am the only one experiencing this issue the developer send me an updated version that totally addressed this issue. How about that for support on a free app!

iTunes FS mounts your iTunes library and any attached iPod as a volume in Finder, and that's all there is to say because it works flawlessly. Don't expect a fancy GUI, because you simply don't need it! This app is a computer lifesaver to me, and I would suggest to the developer to make iTunesFS donation-ware and implement this the same friendly way as Carbon Copy Cloner does for instance. iTunesFS is the choice over a lot of commercial apps for backing up iPod and iTunes content. Recommended!

LOUNGE DELUXE  Works flawlessly for me. I asked several developers of pref settings utilities to add a similar function to their app, but all refused. Thanks a lot for this script!

Would it also be possible to publish one for WebKit instead of Safari?

Apple HP Printer Drivers
Aug 4 2008

LOUNGE DELUXE  This update actually installed about 1GB of drivers and stuff, although I only have a HP 3390. It didn't show up in Software Update. After installing this update my printer cannot be configured through the web interface anymore, as it gives an error message every time. Well it serves me right for 'updating' something that operated just fine and therefor didn't need any update. Be warned however to backup your system drive before applying this update, so you can always revert back.

BetterZip
Jun 20 2008

LOUNGE DELUXE  What I like so much about BetterZip, at least compared to its competitors, is the fact that BetterZip allows for its users to create .rar archives. True, you'll need a separate license from Rarlabs to create .rar archives, but once you've got this license you can do it all from within BetterZip, including useful options like split archives etc.

And BetterZip has always worked flawlessly for me, even with archives that were password protected. I only would like the GUI to be pimped up a little so it would integrate better with the rest of the GUI of Leopard.

iTunes Song List
Jun 17 2008

LOUNGE DELUXE  An app that saves playlists was exactly what I was looking for, and indeed iTunes Song List does save playlists and you can even choose from several file formats.

But after a playlist has been saved, iTunes Song List makes iTunes quit and that is very annoying. I'm using the latest version of iTunes (7.6.2).

NetBarrier X5
Mar 31 2008

LOUNGE DELUXE  I bought NetBarrier X5 through MU Promo, but the registration key I received seems to be for a different version (the format is different from the format version 5 accepts).

I emailed Intego about this but after receiving a response that made no sense at all (and it took them days to do so), they simply don't answer any other emails I send them. And emails to support at MU Promo don't get delivered for some odd reason, this department is totally unreachable.

Who's to blame? No more MU Promo deals for me, that's for sure, and no more Intego software either.

Microsoft Office 2008

LOUNGE DELUXE  After this update when opening any of the Office 2008 applications, the Leopard firewall keeps on asking if I want to accept incoming connections or not. Regardless of my answer, the settings are not remembered by the firewall. Pretty annoying.

X Lossless Decoder
Mar 6 2008

LOUNGE DELUXE  Wonderful software that worked and still works flawlessly. I use it a lot for .flac conversion, and whilst converting it provides an informative status window. It operates very fast (C2D Mini), uses minimal resources and its output has always been accepted by iTunes. And on top of that its freeware!

Thanks a lot developer(s).

deskUNPDF
Jan 29 2008

LOUNGE DELUXE  I tried it on a .pdf I made through printing a simple Word 2004 doc as .pdf. I used the contextual menu option to let DeskUNPDF open it in MS Word, but DeskUNPDF said it wasn't a valid .pdf format (?).

Told DeskUNPDF to open it in DeskUNPDF itself and the infamous beachball showed up and only a hard reset could liberate my system from DeskUNPDF.

I'd stay away from this software.

iArchiver
Dec 3 2007

LOUNGE DELUXE  Very nice app indeed. Its interface to me is much nicer than BetterZip, but I will keep on using BetterZip because of its ability to create rar archives (though you need to purchase a separate license to rar). If the developer could implement this feature then at least I would abandon BetterZip in favor of iArchiver. And the price of iArchiver is simply right!

ToolBar Extras
Dec 3 2007

LOUNGE DELUXE  I send an email to the address that was mentioned on the paypal receipt on November 22, 2007 at 1.33 pm (your name at yahoo.com).

I'm not sure if I expained it well. I have only one account on my Mac, so I'm always admin. I always install apps for every user, if asked for by an installer. When I tried to trash something through your toolbar extras (an Apple lossless music file), the app stated that I did not have enough rights and that I needed to be an admin. I selected the space where I can type a password and hit enter key, but that didn't do the trick. All apps besides Toolbar Extras that require me to enter my admin password accept the fact that I do not use a password, and hitting the enter key is in those cases enough.

LOUNGE DELUXE  This app is very well thought through. Just drag a folder to its main window and adjust the preferred settings for viewing and printing the contents of the specific folder (Including any subfolders). You can choose from several types of output, i.e. Ms Word, .pdf, .txt etc.

Highly recommended!

LOUNGE DELUXE  Great tools, and I decided to buy them them right away. However some tools like trash require you to have admin rights in order to execute them. I only have one account on my Mac, an admin account but I use it without a password. These tools that require admin rights don't work as I have no password to fill in.

I send the developer an email about this but unfortunately never received an answer.

RAYMONDLEWISJONES  Um, I never received your email, curious which address you sent it to. Okay, so you need admin rights only when you plan on changing someone else's account. Like when you choose to empty trash on all users. Sadly, any app that changes something with the system will need an admin password. Like "Maintenance" or "Shutdown".

RAYMONDLEWISJONES  So in your Accounts, you have no password entered in for your user? So when asked by any other app or installer, you just leave it blank?

I have never heard of such a thing, but I will address it as soon as I can. It is probably a quick fix, and a new version will be available shortly, so this complaint will be fixed in the new version.

RAYMONDLEWISJONES  A quick fix may be to enter a password like "sample", click the keychain checkbox to add it to your keychain, then go to your keychain access in your utilities folder and change the password for "com.electriceelprod.nameofapp" to be "" (type two double quotes)
