LINKSTER82 For reasons beyond my understanding, my reply to Joel Nelson's original comment was pulled. I didn't think his review was all that informative, but whatever. So I will now try to write something that hopefully won't get pulled. LimeWire does what it was made to do, and does it adequately. One is not going to find all the files one searches for all the time. That's not the fault of the program. However, the app likes quite a bit of elegance and simplicity, and is highly limited unless you pop for the Pro version of it. First, elegance. The layout is less than intuitive and graphics seem to overlap the interface, especially the limewire icon itself. Second, the program takes far too long to load up. Included in the latest version is a program to start limewire upon starting up Mac OS X. This is hardly a good solution. Instead of waiting for the app itself to start, you have to wait longer for the OS to start up. Moving the wait isn't getting rid of it. Third, unless you pay for the Pro, your connection speed is reduced. I'm running on a 1.5 Mbps Cable connection, and limewire's connection quality indicator gave me a fair to poor rating. I think not. I can download at speeds of 150+ KBps from Macupdate, but not from limewire. So, I refuse to pay for a program just so I can use the most of my connection. Sure, it's a marketing ploy, but why pay for a program that just might get you into trouble? (think pepsi-iTunes commercial) The moral of the story is: you can download almost anything with limewire. But it might not be easy, pretty, or quick. (Version 3.8.3) |
