LAMPOON After using iVideo Converter for some days now I can do a proper review. The first time you launch iVideo Converter it asks to download some video libraries. This only takes about 3 seconds so it is no hassle. I got prompted with a registration request afterwards. Not yet mister. . not yet . . . :-) With the two minutes limit I could not test full length videos but it was not needed for some quick testing. Dragged in several different movies files. And clicked on the Convert button without any changes to the settings. Converting started and after some minutes it was finished. All converted movies played with QT and VLC without a problem. Quality by default was generally good to very good. After this I changed some options like 2-pass encoding, resolutions, bitrates and more. Converting was again flawless but iVideo Converter sometimes prompted me with a message saying the selected bitrate was too low. It seems when the bitrate per pixel is lower then 0.15 it gives you this warning. Actually this is a good thing because lower values gives poor quality anyway. It is a pity it didn't ask me to change the bitrate at this point. You have to stop converting and change the bitrate and start converting again. A minor issue. At this point I registered iVideo Converter. I was already convinced :-) I have converted a lot of full length videos with Ivideo Converter and never got big issues. The X360 presets also works perfect (yes - I am a X360 fan shame on me). It gave a very good quality and no hiccups. FYI VisualHUB and Handbrake could not deliver me good X360 movie file ones. There are so many options to deal with you get lost some how. A good documentation is a must! This needs to be taken care off asap Ivideo Converter is a very decent converter lacking some documentation. Quality is by default high but you can create very high (and very low) results in no time after tweaking some options. The developer told me the next release will be Intel only. Bummer, because I am using PPC at the moment. But I do understand his point of view. A Intel optimized version will have a hugh speed increase and to be honest . . . ... PPC is game over when OSX10.6 finally hits the streets. For me it is time to go out and buy a Intel (bwaaaaak) iMac. :-/ (Version 1.3.7) |
