LAINE In all honesty, you'd have to release a pretty bad free theme for me to give you less than five stars, but this is great anyway. Can you make the vertical segment tabs look as pretty as the horizontal ones? (Download the QuicKeys demo and program a couple of horizontal and vertical toolbars to see what I mean.) Thanks for iLeopard! (Version 2.1.2)

VoodooPad Lite | Dec 30 2008 |
LAINE On my system VoodooPad Lite documents are not directly indexable by Spotlight. VoodooPad Lite makes up for this drawback by creating its own Spotlight index files in ~/Library/Metadata/VoodooPad. However, in this version of VoodooPad Lite, these indexes are deleted whenever the corresponding VoodooPad Lite document is closed. I used Sandbox in Leopard to implement an ACL rule to deny deletion for items in this folder to the user so that I can continue to perform Spotlight searches for VoodooPad lite content whether or not the application or the associated documents are open. I'll have to test a bit more to see how this ultimately works out. (Version 4.0.4)

LAINE I've successfully used the default settings for previous versions of NoobProof, but when I use default settings for this version (1.3), my DHCP network connections attempt to use a self-assigned IP address. This represents a serious issue for support in my situation, because if default settings can be expected to cause a problem this serious, there remains no simple method for using NoobProof that I can recommend to casual users, I think. HANY I've tested both 1.2 and 1.3 version and found that they do have the same problem with dhcp. I've never realized it before, thank you for submitting this bug. I agree with you, the default configuration must be friendly enough to allow a dhpc lease... :-) I'll release a new version asap, with new features and some bug fixes. I'll set "System internal services" default rule to 'allow'. If you look deeply into noobproof, you'll find many other bugs, that's for sure! You know, I'm alone in developing and testing this software, and it's really difficult to test everything. For this reason your help is really appreciated. Thank you. (Version 1.3)

LocationChanger | Dec 2 2008 |
LAINE LocationChanger still relies on the Locate database (/var/db/locate.database) for some of its settings info. For a reliable installation, you may have to delete that file and rebuild it before installing LocationChanger. The reason you might have to do that is that references to files on volumes not currently mounted can populate the fields (privoxy, for instance) and the installer scripts might not be able to find the file, so give up with errors. LAINE The site linked from this listing for more information is not corresponding, so I don't want to be too harsh before that issue is resolved, but in order to initialize the program, it appears that certain information must be submitted to an online service even though the software is described as a free product. I'm making that assumption because upon launching and accepting the license agreement, the window presents both an email address field and a password address field with no explanation other than the text "... you registered with" next to each of those fields. That seem to imply that the credentials are not stored locally. This places the application in a category of applications that represent what I consider to be a disturbing trend in software development. They claim to be free but actually require a continued investment or dependency from the user (or subscriber). (Version 1.4)

DVD Imager | Jul 7 2007 |
LAINE For most problems with DVD Imager, in all likelihood the content of the VIDEO_TS folder (or other content if you're using copy mode) is something DVD Imager can't handle. Here are some ways to try to determine that. Start by using a utility like Onyx to Are there any DVDs/VIDEO_TS folders that DVD Imager can copy? If you've ever successfully used DVD Imager to make a DVD before, try inserting one you created with DVD Imager before or one that was created a different way, and try to perform the operation on the VIDEO_TS folder that exists there. Monitor the tmp folder while DVD Imager is working. That may present a challenge. You should be able to locate that folder in the Finder by typing command-shift-g and entering "/tmp". Examine the files in the lelandtmploc just after DVD Imager begins working. Look for a file called " dvdimagerlog" also in the "/tmp" folder. If you can, drag it out of there before DVD Imager deletes it when quitting, and tell me what's in it. If you have trouble dragging it, just select it as soon as it appears after you click Create in DVD Imager and press command-d to duplicate it. That way the original will be removed when DVD Imager quits but the duplicate will remain. You might want to try testing the mkisofs executable which is the engine for DVD Imager. The documentation includes the command you need to type into the terminal, substituting your particulars for source, disk name, and destination. If you put the DVD Imager application into the main directory of the boot drive, typing the following line precisely into Terminal and pressing return should result in a message telling you all the options that can be used for the mkisofs executable. If it doesn't, then there's some problem with the mkisofs executable on your system, and DVD Imager can't possibly work. /DVD\ Imager.app/Contents/Resources/mkisofs If you get the expected response, then try completing the command line using the command line sample included in the documentation. Good luck! (Version 1.5.9)

No Frills DVD2iPod | Feb 3 2006 |
LAINE Handbrake Lite is very fast and easy to use. At present, I believe it does not include the capability to encode to h.264. If you anticipate ever connecting your iPod to a TV or playing the video from your iTunes library on your computer, you may appreciate the improvement in quality afforded by h.264. It's probably more important, though, to match the framerate between source and output to avoid jerks in the motion, and Handbrake Lite does that for you. Check 0SEx for letting you do custom dividing/joining of your DVD video content. I like to use 0SEx to collect the chapters or titles I want combined, then I just drop them on No Frills at the highest bit rate setting so I can rely on them being playable on the iPod. Plus, they still look pretty decent if I watch them on the computer, especially if I use VLC instead of iTunes to play back. (Version 2.9)

Pillowtalk-Sky | Feb 26 2004 |
LAINE LEE A problem has been identified with the Pillowtalk-Sky version 2.2 theme installer in which the invisible symbolic link named "tmp" in the main directory of the startup disk is replaced by a folder of the same name. If you have installed Pillowtalk-Sky version 2.2 on your Panther (Mac OS X 10.3) system, you should follow the following steps to fix the problem. 1. Download, expand, and run this Applescript application to temporarily enable visibility of normally invisible items. http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/Toggle_Finder_Visibility.sit If you already have it installed, you may also use Tinkertool to make normally hidded Finder items visible. 2. Restart your computer, then locate the item named "tmp" in the main window of your startup disk and double-click it. If the window that opens contains only a few files (less than 10) then your system hasn't been affected by this problem and you can skip to step 5. However, if the window contains a large number of files (over 50) many of which are icon files (.icns) and tiff files (.tif or .tiff) you should continue with the next step. 3. Drag the item named "tmp" from the main window of your startup disk to the trash and IMMEDIATELY open the Disk Utility application in the Utilities folder of the Applications folder. 4. With the repair tab selected in the Disk Utility window, select your startup disk in the left part of the window and click "Repair Permissions". Allow the process to complete then run the Toggle_Finder_Visibility application again to restore Finder items to their normal visibility. 5. To safely install or remove the Pillowtalk-Sky theme, download version 2.3 from here: http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/res/download/Pillowtalk-Sky_2.dmg.sit and use the install or remove package files included with the new version. The packages with the new version work with installation/restoration whether or not the old versions have been used. I apologize for the inconvenience, and hope you continue to enjoy the Pillowtalk-Sky theme on your Mac OS X 10.3 system.

RAFE SARTORI Why is your theme not a .guikit file like most other themes so that it can be safely installed by ShapeShifter?
