There doesn't seem to be a way to search for text in the snippet itself, only the key words (tags).

Connect the drive and run the tool again to see if the drive is still recognized as a drive that needs the update. If so, you may be able to repair the damage by selecting another drive model from the horizontal list which has features similar to those of your drive. This tip is recommended in a comment offered here by heavy_shower.

DVD Imager needs an update to work properly in Leopard, but in the meantime, here's an easy workaround.

Don't drop the VIDEO_TS folder onto DVD Imager's window. Instead, find the DVD Imager application icon in the Finder and drop it onto that.

Found this solution in "./JES Deinterlacer.app/Contents/Resources/Troubleshooting.html":

"In case of startup problems it often helps to delete the plist in home/library/preferences."

Unknown error #1407 - fatal error message appears at launch.

Error code lookup reveals "Expected a folder and got a file instead".

Hmm, it installed into /sbin for me, not /usr/sbin. But the naming issue still applies.

$ which installPKG.bash

/sbin/installPKG.bash

Where the heck are you now, selfstro?

For most problems with DVD Imager, in all likelihood the content of the VIDEO_TS folder (or other content if you're using copy mode) is something DVD Imager can't handle.

Here are some ways to try to determine that.

Start by using a utility like Onyx to

1) Repair permissions.

2) Check preferences.

3) Clean caches.

Are there any DVDs/VIDEO_TS folders that DVD Imager can copy? If you've ever successfully used DVD Imager to make a DVD before, try inserting one you created with DVD Imager before or one that was created a different way, and try to perform the operation on the VIDEO_TS folder that exists there.

Monitor the tmp folder while DVD Imager is working. That may present a challenge. You should be able to locate that folder in the Finder by typing command-shift-g and entering "/tmp". Examine the files in the lelandtmploc just after DVD Imager begins working.

Look for a file called " dvdimagerlog" also in the "/tmp" folder. If you can, drag it out of there before DVD Imager deletes it when quitting, and tell me what's in it. If you have trouble dragging it, just select it as soon as it appears after you click Create in DVD Imager and press command-d to duplicate it. That way the original will be removed when DVD Imager quits but the duplicate will remain.

You might want to try testing the mkisofs executable which is the engine for DVD Imager. The documentation includes the command you need to type into the terminal, substituting your particulars for source, disk name, and destination.

If you put the DVD Imager application into the main directory of the boot drive, typing the following line precisely into Terminal and pressing return should result in a message telling you all the options that can be used for the mkisofs executable. If it doesn't, then there's some problem with the mkisofs executable on your system, and DVD Imager can't possibly work.

/DVD\ Imager.app/Contents/Resources/mkisofs

If you get the expected response, then try completing the command line using the command line sample included in the documentation.

Good luck!

It irritates me that the kvraudio forums require you to log in to search. Do you know if Luna Free supports tempo changes in a sequence (a substantial drawback for Garageband, IMO)? Thanks.

Just yesterday I was just trying to make plans to port all my Big Cat scripts to OnMyCommand because I finally got an Intel. Big Cat is one of the best values I can imagine. Thanks for releasing the update!

A good application to let you test settings for No Frills DVD2iPod is MPEG Streamclip. With MPEG Streamclip you can select a small part of a .mpg or .VOB file by setting input and output points, and export the selection to a new file, which you can drop into No Frills DVD2iPod. You can find a listing for MPEG Streamclip at MacUpdate.

Handbrake Lite is very fast and easy to use. At present, I believe it does not include the capability to encode to h.264. If you anticipate ever connecting your iPod to a TV or playing the video from your iTunes library on your computer, you may appreciate the improvement in quality afforded by h.264. It's probably more important, though, to match the framerate between source and output to avoid jerks in the motion, and Handbrake Lite does that for you. Check 0SEx for letting you do custom dividing/joining of your DVD video content. I like to use 0SEx to collect the chapters or titles I want combined, then I just drop them on No Frills at the highest bit rate setting so I can rely on them being playable on the iPod. Plus, they still look pretty decent if I watch them on the computer, especially if I use VLC instead of iTunes to play back.

Version 1.1 apparently requires 10.4.2. I let that one get by me. If upgrading to 10.4.2 doesn't solve your problems, please email me.

That seems as though it might be related to disk permissions. Have you tried repairing disk permissions?

Please email me with whatever details you can, and I will try to find answers. Thanks.

If the app has hung while trying to complete its process (which is what has happened, it sounds like) you may have to force quit by pressing command-option-escape. If you'll email me, I'll try to make some suggestions about how to find out what happened. When the app is functioning normally, you should be able to quit by pressing command-q or clicking below the picture (version 1.4), unless your DVD image is in the process of being created, in which case you should be able to click "Cancel" or press the escape key as soon as the process has continued far enough for the progress bar panel to appear.

Yes. You can burn the resulting image with Toast or Disk Utility (or Disk Copy, on older systems) or you can mount the image, launch DVD Player and hit play (if hitting play is even required, according to preferences).

Thanks. The point really is that I'm hoping to keep the idea of absolutely free Mac OS theming alive, even if it has some shortcomings when compared to commercial solutions.

Don't be sad, it's only a theme.

You know, sometimes I look at it and think the same thing, especially after looking at the work of some of the theme design wizards. But again, sometimes I look and think, "That's not so bad."

A problem has been identified with the Pillowtalk-Sky version 2.2 theme installer in which the invisible symbolic link named "tmp" in the main directory of the startup disk is replaced by a folder of the same name. If you have installed Pillowtalk-Sky version 2.2 on your Panther (Mac OS X 10.3) system, you should follow the following steps to fix the problem.

1. Download, expand, and run this Applescript application to temporarily enable visibility of normally invisible items.

http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/Toggle_Finder_Visibility.sit

If you already have it installed, you may also use Tinkertool to make normally hidded Finder items visible.

2. Restart your computer, then locate the item named "tmp" in the main window of your startup disk and double-click it. If the window that opens contains only a few files (less than 10) then your system hasn't been affected by this problem and you can skip to step 5. However, if the window contains a large number of files (over 50) many of which are icon files (.icns) and tiff files (.tif or .tiff) you should continue with the next step.

3. Drag the item named "tmp" from the main window of your startup disk to the trash and IMMEDIATELY open the Disk Utility application in the Utilities folder of the Applications folder.

4. With the repair tab selected in the Disk Utility window, select your startup disk in the left part of the window and click "Repair Permissions". Allow the process to complete then run the Toggle_Finder_Visibility application again to restore Finder items to their normal visibility.

5. To safely install or remove the Pillowtalk-Sky theme, download version 2.3 from here:

http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/res/download/Pillowtalk-Sky_2.dmg.sit

and use the install or remove package files included with the new version. The packages with the new version work with installation/restoration whether or not the old versions have been used.

I apologize for the inconvenience, and hope you continue to enjoy the Pillowtalk-Sky theme on your Mac OS X 10.3 system.

Sincerely,

Laine Lee

For a prettier message, you might want to edit:

/System/Library/CoreServices/SecurityAgentPlugins/loginwindow.bundle/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/login.nib

I believe the default permissions for the plist file are 700, and are left that way by Custom Login Message.
