LVWOLFMAN  Ok, dummy me didn't read the changes...

I'm getting the mp3's BECAUSE I'm a Pandora One subscriber. OTH, if you're going to rip their music you should be a subscriber. ;-)

This thing rocks!

LVWOLFMAN  Contrary to a comment below about Pandora using AAC+ and crappy sound... I just recorded a song using the trial version of PandoraJam.

The file it left in my iTunes folder is a 192kbps standard MP3 file encoded with Lame 3.96.

I didn't change anything in the program's preferences, nor even looked for them. I AM a Pandora subscriber though, which is why I get 192kbps.

LVWOLFMAN  I've tried several other Pandora apps including the official Pandora program and while they all worked well, I like PandoraJam the best. Basically they all do the same things... recording to iTunes is frosting. Well worth the $15.

LVWOLFMAN  Nice looking program. Crashed twice in a row doing a simple search. It is no longer on my system.

LVWOLFMAN  Works Very Well Thank You!

I'm having a blast watching BBC shows at my convenience. While I find little worth watching on U.S. television, it seems like there is far too much good programming on the BBC for the time that I have available. Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword is a riot!

There ARE some issues with some programs that can't be downloaded, like the Best of Chewing the Fat. They start... then end leaving a zero byte file and a message that it couldn't be downloaded.

I second the request for an ITV Player version as well, though it'll probably be more difficult as it appears that they use Microsoft's Silverlight.

For those who don't seem to understand otherwise, the U.K. Resident thing isn't a limitation of this program, just has the Hulu Desktop Viewer limitation to U.S. Resident's isn't a limitation of the desktop viewer. It is a restriction put in place at the servers themselves. The BBC (and ITV as well) have restricted the use of their services to U.K. Residents. Hulu.com has done the same with their service but reserving it for U.S. Residents.

As the author alludes, there ARE easy ways around it. All you need is a U.K. IP address. How you get it is your business and you're probably breaking the terms of service of the BBC web services. That said, version 3.3 is working just fine for me here in the U.S.

One thing to remember as well... that free UK Proxy service you found... is it legitimate? Or is it run by a couple of teen hackers in their basement while they snag your personal data?

LVWOLFMAN  Wow! As stated, almost too much information. But I see features that folks here have asked about. That is service, especially for a free app. And yes, it's a free app that I'll be able to get a lot of use from.

Thank You!

Hulu Desktop
Jun 10 2009
****.

LVWOLFMAN  First a note to all: Hulu.com is constrained by licenses with programming providers. Just as DVD movies are "Region" coded to protect distribution licenses, streaming video providers are also generally limited in distribution. What this means is that just as we in the United States aren't allowed to stream BBC TV's simulcast of BBC One, Those in most of the world (I'm not sure about Canada) are not allowed to stream video from Hulu.com.

This would of course, apply to any desktop application released by Hulu. So sorry Charlie, as you found out, the Hulu Desktop Apps are NOT workarounds to let you watch Hulu distributed videos in other countries.

Now... as the app goes, I'm running a late 2007 17" Mac Book Pro. On my 12mbps Cable modem, with my wife playing Second Life and streaming music, and me downloading from newsgroups on another machine at full speed and 20 connections, the high quality mode of the Hulu Desktop app was darn good. When I stopped the downloads it was fantastic!

I tried it as well on my 12" 1.33 Ghz Powerbook G4. This app isn't supposed to work with it, but it did. On the low setting I could watch it in a pinch but the video stopped far too often. But it DID work!

And yes, it works perfectly with my Apple Remote.
