KILLER KLOWN KAR  I suppose my complaint are with people salivating over this app. Good it is, perfect it is not. Although the Developer has put a considerable amount of time and effort into it, there are things that could be better.

http://yfrog.com/0nvisualhubtestp

This is three screen captures, from an original VCD, VisualHub, and iVideo, notice slight color shift or a "washed out" look on the iVideo. I'm sure this can be tweaked, but the test was done using stock settings. Also, iVideo represents itself as a Audio tool also, yet can't convert a audio file to a Apple iPhone ringtone. And finally, the developer as added a join feature, yet I'm guessing expects us to generate a few 1:59:00 files to test it out.

So everyone stop slagging off VisualHub. It still does the job just fine for most peope. This like I said is a good tool, but misses the mark as far as the slobbering platitudes that are being heaped upon it.

KILLER KLOWN KAR  Finally added a join function. I'll have to test this out using two very nice VCD's. I used VisualHub|> iTunes|> h.264|> High and Join and it did a rather remarkable job. So it will be rather interesting to see if this can do as well.

IVC DEVELOPER  Yes, it took some time to implement. I only wanted to do this when it is possible with all codec iVC knows. As far as I know no other converter can stitch any codec to any other codec. I am quite pleased with the result.

Said this, the only file format that cannot be stitched is .m2ts. Because of several format issues it is just not possible for the moment. All other codecs are ok.

I will post a new update very soon with many improvements. Like a dedicated button on the main window for stitching, faster preparing of files, 2pass bug fix, ..

If you find any issue concerning the stitching feature please mail me at info@ivideoconverter.net

Thank you

IVC DEVELOPER  Please note the stitching feature is not available in the trail version.

This is done merely because of some technical issue and a two minute trail time is too little to stitch some videos anyway.

GARY30  I keep it around for OLD archives from the 90's that I think I might be interested in, but really am not. The download bills itself as an installer. Basically, all it does is annoy you and try to confuse into becoming a paying customer as it delivers its payload. Pure rubbish.

I hazily recollect that one version of this product a few years ago put something on my machine that popped up every so often and try to sell me something. So, I go straight to "Show Package Contents" rummage until I find the Payload folder (yes, there is a folder so named) and copy the application itself to my Utilities folder rather than even bothering to run the installer. Works perfectly and no surprises. In the next year I will probably run it once or twice--maybe.

KILLER KLOWN KAR  And of course the cat command. duh!

CAT(1) BSD General Commands Manual CAT(1)

NAME

cat -- concatenate and print files

SYNOPSIS

cat [-benstuv] [file ...]

DESCRIPTION

The cat utility reads files sequentially, writing them to the standard output. The file operands are

processed in command-line order. If file is a single dash (`-') or absent, cat reads from the standard

input. If file is a UNIX domain socket, cat connects to it and then reads it until EOF. This comple-ments complements

ments the UNIX domain binding capability available in inetd(8).

The options are as follows:

-b Number the non-blank output lines, starting at 1.

-e Display non-printing characters (see the -v option), and display a dollar sign (`$') at the end

of each line.

-n Number the output lines, starting at 1.

-s Squeeze multiple adjacent empty lines, causing the output to be single spaced.

-t Display non-printing characters (see the -v option), and display tab characters as `^I'.

-u Disable output buffering.

-v Display non-printing characters so they are visible. Control characters print as `^X' for con-trol-X; control-X;

trol-X; the delete character (octal 0177) prints as `^?'. Non-ASCII characters (with the high

bit set) are printed as `M-' (for meta) followed by the character for the low 7 bits.

EXIT STATUS

The cat utility exits on success, and >0 if an error occurs.

EXAMPLES

The command:

cat file1

will print the contents of file1 to the standard output.

The command:

cat file1 file2 > file3

will sequentially print the contents of file1 and file2 to the file file3, truncating file3 if it

already exists. See the manual page for your shell (i.e., sh(1)) for more information on redirection.

The command:

cat file1 - file2 - file3

will print the contents of file1, print data it receives from the standard input until it receives an

EOF (`^D') character, print the contents of file2, read and output contents of the standard input

again, then finally output the contents of file3. Note that if the standard input referred to a file,

the second dash on the command-line would have no effect, since the entire contents of the file would

have already been read and printed by cat when it encountered the first `-' operand.

SEE ALSO

head(1), more(1), pr(1), sh(1), tail(1), vis(1), zcat(1), setbuf(3)

Rob Pike, "UNIX Style, or cat -v Considered Harmful", USENIX Summer Conference Proceedings, 1983.

STANDARDS

The cat utility is compliant with the IEEE Std 1003.2-1992 (``POSIX.2'') specification.

The flags [-benstv] are extensions to the specification.

HISTORY

A cat utility appeared in Version 1 AT&T UNIX. Dennis Ritchie designed and wrote the first man page.

It appears to have been cat(1).

BUGS

Because of the shell language mechanism used to perform output redirection, the command ``cat file1

file2 > file1'' will cause the original data in file1 to be destroyed!

The cat utility does not recognize multibyte characters when the -t or -v option is in effect.

KILLER KLOWN KAR  Kinda the GraphicConverter for Video. This has promise, but I have to agree a join video is needed. Also, while it's nice to have all the advanced settings a simpler method would be nice. As an example, if I want to crop 10 pixels off the bottom to get rid of the head roll, but still have my video at 480x360 there is no simple way to do it. Yes it can be done, but simple way to do it is the operative phrase here.

Also, maybe I missed it but no video preview. :-(

It's amazing how good Visual Hub really was, you don't miss your water until the well runs dry.

IVC DEVELOPER  Anyone who can give me some useful info how to stitch video files with FFMPEG can contact me at info@ivideoconverter.net

The FFMPEG -newvideo command just doesn't work very well and I only want to implement this if it works 100%.

VisualHUB stitching doesn't work very well as far as I know. For example if the source video files are short, lets say -15secs, it just overlaps the movies instead of adding them. And it also seems to work good with avi output, other codecs have several issues.

In short, if you know a good way to stitch video files with ffmpeg -> please send a mail to info@ivideoconverter.net

Everything is bunched into one window. The pane layout of TweetDeck and Nambu is much better. Additionally, no support for Trends, or customizable views. And charging $14.95 for something that although looks good is a very lightweight client in regards to it's features is rather greedy. Especially in this economy.

Soooo they bring in their Mac, use the works computer to do what grab a .torrent, then transfer it to their Mac and use the works bandwidth to grab Wolverine off Pirate Bay? Funniest thing I've ever heard. Clearly no personal responsibility to their place of employment. RIAA/MPAA are you listening?

Also thanks for the -15 votes fan bois appreciate it.

And Transmission on Winderze? Thanks for the laugh. Winderze users just love Mac ports of apps. Really, they do..

CHARLES_BT  You leave Transmission running at home, and can control it remotely via a browser.

This really isn't a complicated idea. uTorrent, Azureus, and Deluge all have web interfaces for the same reason.

But why should that get in the way of your regularly-scheduled troll every time there's a new Transmission release... thanks for the laugh :)

All I can say is very rarely does something come along that changes a paradigm, Live has done that. On the Mac the "competition" is Logic of course. But to me Live sounds better (Logic always sounds "squashed" to me) and has a much more fluid way of creation. Incredibly good and worth every penny.

Of course I suppose for the financially disadvantaged that is perfectly acceptable.

I simply find the reviews here to be pathetic. No one is actually reviewing the product. Everyone is simply whining like little bitches about the perceived value. Mailplane is solid, well supported, does what it claims, saves me time and effort. So what value is that, $25? Seems a pretty good deal to me. So use your crashing free browsers and plug ins. KILLER KLOWN KAR  Once again, the fan boi's continues to bash the worlds most used Torrent app. I'm not exactly sure what a "Mac like" Application is. Would that be Photoshop? or maybe the Mac like Apple application Final Cut Pro?

Trash talk all you want, µTorrent is the fastest of the bunch. Period. And I hate to bring this up, but maybe you're doing it wrong. A torrent app runs in the background. Once launched you forget about it. In reality a faceless command line app is all you really need. Interaction with a Torrent app should be minimal.

Additionally this is running on 4 Intel Mac's that I own. MBP 17, iMac 24, Mini, and dual quad. Never crashed, never failed to launch, never filled up a disk. Either I'm doing everything right, or you're doing something terribly wrong.

KILLER KLOWN KAR  µTorrent is the gold standard of Torrent Applications. Those of you having issues with it need to get your OS straightened out. I am running it fine on 3 different Mac's (dual quad, iMac core2, MBP core duo), and have since the Alpha. Is µTorrent as fast as the Win 1.8.1 version, no. But the Mac OS TCP/IP stack isn't as efficient as Vista's. Is it faster than Transmission? Absolutely. I get the feeling on here either some Transmission user group is posting shitz about µTorrent or Mac users have become more closed minded then PC users.

Additionally as has been well stated many times about Transmissions issues with many Torrent sites. Here is an excerpt from the support boards of one of the highest trafficked Torrent sites.

"Also, if you wish to use Transmission, thats your choice and we will not ban you or the client, but we put that client on the 'bad list' because of the stats glitch.... not because we were bored. And once you know about the glitch (which you obviously now are aware) if/when your stats get screwed up because of the continued use of the client, we will not come to your rescue and fix you stats. Your account will effectively be trashed and unusable. We only allow one account per person, so you pretty much ban yourself from the site. If we find a second account in use by the same member, all dupe accounts are also banned.

So now you know exactly what is going on and its now up to you if you want continue using Transmission."

Transmission has had this issue from the start. They know about it, don't fix it, and you continue to use it and be a fan boy for it.

I am one of Transmission's developers. I'm not aware of any current stats bugs in Transmission, nor any current stats-related bans. If you're sure that your complaint is still valid, please post to http://forum.transmissionbt.com/ so that we can track down the problem.

Regardless, I'm glad you're enjoying µTorrent. It's good competition for us and I'm sure they'll enjoy having you as a user.

Aside from that, Transmission is faster for me by a fair margin. Definitely not an issue with my computer because on a good torrent I can get my max speed fairly often. Even if µTorrent were to speed up by that slight bit I'd miss a few of Transmission's features in the process.

Now am I biased? Possibly but I support µTorrent all the way.

And PLEASE don't give me grief and try to sell me on the advantages of Transmission. Transmission has major flaws in regards to how it deals with retries and if you're on a Torrent site that requires a ratio it doesn't work correctly. It's a really great app. In some of the very first releases it would quit unexpectedly, but that hasn't happened in a couple years. As a photographer let me tell you one little feature that this has that makes it invaluable. I can take say 6 folders of images, and drop it into the processing window. Then easy batch will apply my own design watermark, copy the photos and directory structure to a newly created folder.

It has many many more features than that, so check it out. 5 Stars all the way.

Major conflict with Application Enhancer (must be added to the exclude list) also does not render CSS correctly. Since GP A8 I started using Netscape 9 and even though it has major issues with Flash it doesn't conflict with Application Enhancer and does render CSS more or less correctly. Surprisingly Safari 3 that comes with 10.4.11 seems to do most everything correctly (finally!)
