KAUFI  Can't recommend it anymore. The support is completely ignorant. Which is particularly bad, because it's much needed. The latest version turned out to be heavily buggy.

I'm disappointed.

KAUFI  In my view, the best of its kind. While other ToDo widgets with iCal integration cause syncing problems, this one's perfect in this respect. Also, truly lightweight and easy to use. Many thanks to the developer.

KAUFI  Sorry, I hit the "Post" button before I finished ...

Instead of doing what it should, the script only gives a spoken error message.

KAUFI  Fantastic idea which I'd love to implement. But it doesn't work with my machine (Leopard, Mail 3). Does anayone else have this problem or is soemthing wrong with my Mail.app?

KAUFI  First of all: Very good app!

But: When I registered a year or so ago, the support was also very responsive. This seems to have wanded. Since X-mas I've been trying to contact the developer by mail for a regsitration issue, but there's no reaction at all. I need a quick reply, though. This is why I'm trying this channel: Please, developer, respond!

KAUFI  One-trick pony - which does its trick very well. Stable app with very handy and unobtrusive GUI. Also, very responsive support. Not needed if you only wish to make ZIPs in general, but as soon as you exchange your ZIP files with Windows users it's a great help. I recommend it.

OmniGrowl

KAUFI  First of all, thanks to the developer for making this Panther compatible. Anyway, the support is first rate, very responsive and friendly.

Also, for me OmniGrowl works flawlessly, though I'm not using all the features it offers. I find it very useful to have iTunes notifications at last without the GrowlTunes menu item.

WOODEN BRAIN CONCEPTS  nadamac: actually as of the current version of Growl, Growl does not give iTunes notifications on its own. It does come with a menu extra you can install, and there are a lot of other 3rd party programs that give iTunes Growl notifications. You must have installed one of these before. The disadvantage of many of them, including the menu extra (GrowlTunes) that comes with Growl, is they have to appear in the dock or the menu bar. OmniGrowl is faceless. Furthermore, iTunes notifications is not at all the main purpose of OmniGrowl. The idea is to handle a whole range of notifications in one application, so there is no need to run 50 little tools for 50 kinds of notifications ultimately.

NADAMAC  I never wanted to say that OmniGrowl isn't useful. I appreciate its features!

But I have no additional GrowlMenu installed and I see those notification since the last Growl update.

Wait, maybe I found the culprit :-)

It could be the AudioScrobbler menu I installled recently...

WOODEN BRAIN CONCEPTS  Yep, AudiScrobbler is it! I may incorporate last.fm support into OmniGrowl later, thus dispensing of the need for audio scrobbler too ;-) (menuet also has last.fm and growl support, but is $$)

****.

KAUFI  One of the best mail apps for mac. I switched to it from Apple's mail app, because the management of a single mailbox with different addresses works much better (and does not produce annoying errors as Mail.app did). Also it's feature-bursting and very reliable, still Apple-like in style.

The only two drawbacks: The search function could be easier to use (it works fine, though); IMAP's lacking (which is not a prob for me and is promised to be added in the future).

Two bonuses of this anyway impressive software: A very long testing period (40 days) and a very responsive and friendly support.

KAUFI  O.k., here's a software-related comment: I think this software is urgently needed and I wonder why no other Growl fan came up earlier with this. In that sense: Thanks, developer! One drawback for me: 10.4. I still use Panther and OmniGrowl doesn't work here. That wouldn't cost it a star, but is a shame for me (and I can't test how well it works).

GERLAD  what happens when u run in panther? AFAIK there is one incompatibility and it is only with the debug interface. if you send me your email I can send you a build that should make it compatible -- although without the testing interface available. my email is on my web page. thanks.

KAUFI  I agree with user "Sidetracked" that this piece of software is not exactly a bargain - but highly useful: It works steadily, requires few system resources, is very handy and even looks good.

I haven't paid to get the nag-free version yet, because the nag window is fortunately inobtrusive. So for many of you out there it should ok to use it like freeware.

I guess I will buy a licence soon, not only for a good app, but also to add the hotkey activation feature.

KAUFI  Very useful indeed! I loved Aplle's note app, but after a while I completely replaced it by Sidenote, since it prevents the notetaking clutter I had before. Also, the activation by touching the screen edge makes work with Sidenote very smooth and fits well into my workflow.

Last, but not least: Very, I mean: very responsive support - thank you!

I will donate asap.

Mellel

*****

KAUFI  I have been using Mellel since version 1.something and never thought of turning back to another word processor.

I looked forward to the new file format with mixed emotions, but was surprised with how smooth the conversion went. The new format is not only a not-so-proprietary solution, but also takes up to 60 percent less disk space and re-writing old files works with hardly any effort and flawlesssly. One minor glitch here: In some cases the dialogue box ("What would you like to do with the old-type file?") does not disappear after conversion, though this does not affect the file.

Have I mentioned yet that I love the fullscreen view?

All in all: Highly recommended, also this version.

Dockless
Dec 2 2005

KAUFI  Have some problems with this app. As a try-out, I used it to let Preview disappear. This didn't work at first try. A few days later finally, Preview disappeared from the dock without me doing anything.

I found out I didn't like it that way, so I tried to reverse the transaction. Again, it didn't work. And still doesn't. It's been a week now - no result. Preview is ticked in the Dockless list and it should be in the dock, but it doesn't appear there.

Please help!
