JUST A USER It does not, otherwise it would be available from the app store. they claim on their blog (WOW, they actually began to communicate with their users!) that they have trouble with approval, but that, sadly, does not make a difference for the end user who was promised release on or around september 22. they should offer a refund to anyone purchasing version 8 since the functionality of syncing is not available and, maybe, never will. LEE123 I do not really know what you mean by 'tag browser' but if you are on a note and you click the little 'i' (info) icon a side panel opens up. This panel lets you edit tags, comments and even attachments. I have not played with it much yet though. (Version 8.0)

SOHO Notes | Sep 24 2009 |
MGER It would be nice to have a panel pop up, similar to iPhoto, I suppose. But you can see all your keywords in the Tags section of Preferences. At least, that was true with v.7.x. (Version 8.01)

Curio | Sep 22 2009 |
JUST A USER I did pay for the update, I think it is fair to pay for something that really does work and what a developer actually spent some time, thinking and energy on. Curio is feature-rich software that can be used for a great deal of different stuff and I had no major bug issues so far. The indvidual sub-functions, like mind-mapping, are not as feature rich as in dedicated software, but that is not to be expected either. They DO work great as is and DO have all the important import and export options. Hope that program will be going strong for a long time! (Version 6.0.1)

JUST A USER brilliant idea, if it would work. But it does not. With every update, there comes along an armada of new bugs. and the old bugs have grown bigger and uglier. and updateing will erase all earlier user work, regardless how many hours you spent on projects, they are gone. since I got a mac, I tried many apps and often was surprised of how unstable and badly tested and overhyped software can be. But this here must be close to the top of the iceberg. the developer encourages the users to give feedback (read: do the testing for him and give new feature ideas) but he neither likes public criticism nor is he able to fix the bugs or to really implement anything in a way that it really would work. what currently does not work: the help videos tend to show stuff not implemented yet or abandoned features. and there is always that "update" in the making that "will fix" all the problems but never does. wonder how useful this software could be if done professionally though... You sound a LOT like someone I know! Could YOU be the user in my forum who spent a lot of energy insulting me, and then had a fit when I removed the insults, leaving behind the bug reports? Could you also be the user by the same name who went through all of my YouTube videos this morning and gave them all one star? Because your writing style is identical, and your timing is impossibly consistent. So to address yet more insults, you seem to have a problem with me fixing things, which I really don't get. Of the bugs you posted, all of them that you (or anyone) bothered to explain in detail were fixed in this update. See that list of things fixed? Some of those are your bugs. And if you go back to the forums and take a look, where users bothered to post more info, I was able to reproduce the problems, and fix them. There are a few remaining bugs, but frankly, I have hundreds of users, and only one or two of them are reporting that they can find them. The beta team is now twelve people, and none of them can reproduce any of your remaining bugs. If instead of criticism, you'd bothered to stick around and explain your bugs in more detail, they'd all be fixed in this version.

CHILTON WEBB And of those features you claim don't work, how do you think I made the videos showing them in action? (Version 4.1.1)

Conjure | Sep 18 2009 |
CHILTON WEBB Another note, each new version has changed the database format a little. Rather than potentially screw up your data (as you imply I do), the app just creates a new database next to the old one. And starting in this version, Conjure will detect the presence of old database files, and it will instruct you on how to update your files. It never, under any circumstances, damages your old files in any way, and it never has. That's a flat out lie.

I'm sorry you've had such a bad experience with Conjure. I've offered to refund your money a number of times, but your email address does not match any of the registrations I have on file. I would be happy to provide you with a full refund though, if you want it. For the sake of my other users, I'd really like to find out how you ran into those bugs. There are a growing number of beta testers, and so far, none of them can reproduce any of the bugs that aren't fixed in 4.1.1. So if you can help us reproduce any of them, or even let me know how you found them in the first place, I will fix them immediately. As evidenced by the versions of Conjure I've posted in the last month, any bugs I can reproduce are fixed within 24 hours. That's not a promise, that's just the average. All I have to do is reproduce them.

IRRADIATED SOFTWARE Your review is fairly narrow sighted. By the developer doing a beta program, they can get critical feedback to shape the product into something the customers desire. It also shows that this product is under active development, so your purchase will not go toward an abandon piece of software. Good software takes a long time to write, especially for small indie companies. If you want stability, you can still buy and use the 1.x version which gives you a free license to 2.0 when it releases. Even 1.x is more capable than most other competitors in this market, but it's also more expensive. Just my 2 cents. (Version 2.0b5)

LEV Well well. And to think I never knew that DevonThink was cobbled together by Silesian elves from old time-expired sheep components which would disintegrate like at the end of Lost Horizon once they'd sucked in ALL YOUR DATA and then you NEVER BE ABLE TO USE IT AGAIN. I thought they were a small but meticulous dev shop which produced a really fine everything-manager of great power, albeit with a slightly crufty front end, and that they were taking a while to make a major integer release. Come on, fella. If you don't have facts, don't print the story. You're just ticking off (and -- it's a legal term -- defaming a company for reasons which are beyond me. And you're also ticking off MU users who don't like being told what to to unless we get good reasons. Come back with good reasons and welcome. For now, hold it right there... (Move along people. Nothing to see here. Move along.) (Version 2.0b5)

Devon Technologies has been around a long time my friend and is well known for those that have looking into tools for research. I check the forums everyday and for the most part they are quiet. Kudos should be given to DT because very few companies allow you to beta test the program at such a level. Hang tight and check it out when its out of beta and I'm sure you'll be happier. DT doesn't ship crappy software. (Version 2.0b6)

VALDIMAR THOR H BERU0 has no idea what this softwere is about. Complete misunderstanding of the whole concept and lack of knowledge about both the softwere and the developers of it. This softwere is well worth every penny and deserves 4.5 stars! (Version 2.0b6)

TOD WICKS Beru is a known troll and constant whiner on the DevonTech forums. He's so wrapped up in this ongoing beta cycle that he even believes his own rants about losing data. It has been shown many times over that the data remain intact and are in fact in readable format (ie PDF, RTF, JPG) and totally accessible through the Finder, even if you decide not to continue with expiring betas. The betas have expiration date, it's true, but there is a very good reason for this: It keeps support overhead down by not having to support older versions once the product ships the final release. Even so, simply setting your computer's clock back a few months will "reactivate" the expired beta should you ever need to extract data (for instance if you ignore the fact stated above about the data being Finder accessible even if DT is no long on your Mac). This guy doesn't know what he's talking about and should be totally ignored just like we do on the forum. (Version 2.0pb6)

DEVONthink Pro Office | Sep 25 2009 |
BRYANG DevonThink Pro Office is absolutely the best-of-class product with world-class service and support. I have been using the product since before the "Pro Office" version was offered, and my databases have matured and expanded exponentially since then. I have NEVER (repeat, NEVER) lost data when upgrading, even when upgrading to one of the publicly released beta products. The company provides detailed info, warnings, and procedures to guard against loss of any hard-won data when trying out one of their beta products. The improvements and features that still need work are explicity detailed in the docs. The author of the oriiginal comment seems to be, honestly, a whiner without substance. I am still developing workflows to add onto well-established workflows using the 7th beta version of Pro Office 2.0 - this is as I discover features, services, scripts, and automator functionality that truly makes this a unique product that will last for years. Thank you Devon Technologies! And to you, those reading these reviews - I'm sure you've gained enough discernment to see through the spoiled, superficial brattiness of these casual dabblers (sometimes going under the guise of "reviewers") who loves to disparage wonderful solutions. SOHO Notes | Jun 2 2009 |
JUST A USER really like the features and the interface. I tried them all and found soho notes the only one really useful plus fun for note taking. I use it with DT (which is a pain as it has no permanent license, just beta releases). I also own Circus Ponies Notebook, but began hating the interface. Soho notes is kind of buggy, however. Also, the search really seems to be slow. Concerning customer support: It does exist and they even respond in a useful way to pre-purchase technical questions. If anyone knows anything better than soho notes for note taking, please come forward with suggestions other than yojimbo (no comment), shovebox (which I use for iPhone sync, it is not bad, but not really powerful), evernote (I really do not care for online sync via a web service and annual payment) or caboodle (which is totally ok, but not really as powerful).
