TomTom HOME

JOOLS912  THANK YOU!

I have been unable to use this software for about 6 months until I read your comment. My TOMTOM Files were on a different hard disk partition, and it would crash without fail everytime it read from the device.

Following your advice, I set the TOMTOM Files back to the boot partition, and now it's working perfectly again.

Thanks!

Sony Ericsson iSync Plugins
Apr 9 2009

JOOLS912  You can't download iSync. It is a standard part of a Mac OS X Installation.

A list of phones natively supported by iSync is on Apple's web-site here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2824

Any phones that are not on that list, including all of the models listed above, will not work with iSync without installing an iSync Plugin.

Apple have not added any new devices to iSync since October 2007 which is why third-party developers have stepped in to fill the gap.

JOOLS912  This program has very quickly become one of my favourite Mac apps.

It's the best Twitter client I've tried (and I've tried them all), and including Flickr and Google Reader too is just icing on the cake.

Considering this is still in beta, its very stable. I've had no problems at all. The UI is very nicely done. Intuitive, slick and fast.

The developers are incredibly responsive. On the two occasions I've emailed them, they have replied within minutes!

I got the free version via MacHeist, but purchased the full version within a few hours of use, just because I liked it so much, and thought the program and support was well worth it.

This is now my default Twitter and RSS client.

Highly Recommended!

JOOLS912  Excellent! My favourite, and the simplest, in my opinion, of the few music transfer programs available for the Mac.

Apple iMac Software Update
Sep 14 2007

JOOLS912  v1.1

For anyone wondering, this will update the ATI Graphics Card drivers, and the "GLEngine" (presumably something to do with OpenGL).

To see what files it installs, run the installer and choose "Show Files" from the "File" menu before clicking the "Install" button.

I don't know why its so hard for Apple to provide even a little bit of information about what they expect us t install.

JOOLS912  Nice...

There's some alternative Mac OS X themes here:

JOOLS912  This looks like an amazingly comprehensive utility, but unfortunately, I just can't bring myself to use it.

The interface looks like an early 90's video game or dodgy WinAmp skin.

Can't we have a normal Apple GUI Guidelines compliant user interface option?

The "Intuitive & Unobtrusive Interface" claim is just untrue. I had to click on all the icons on the right-hand side of the interface, just to find out what they did!!

myTheme Creator

JOOLS912  A very good, solid competitor to the official Sony Ericsson themes creator. It's certainly 100 times faster at showing previews of the themes, on my Mac.

To run it, you'll need to download and install J2SE v1.5 if you haven't already:

PPC Macs: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/j2se50release4ppc.html

Intel Macs: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/j2se50release4intel.html

Keyword Manager

JOOLS912  This looks very nice. The design of the windows fits perfectly with iPhoto's in-built palettes etc.

Functionally its very good too. Exactly how I would expect this feature built-in from Apple to work...

But $19.00? Half that and I would purchase this without thinking, and I'm sure the developer would get more registrations as a result.

But for now, I'll stick with Ken Ferry's slightly inferior (but infinitely free-er) Keyword Assistant:

JOOLS912  BE CAREFUL!!!

This is just a 'hacked' copy of Apple's original copyrighted iSync 2.3 application, in which the 'author' has modified the 'MetaClasses.plist' file to add a few new phones and an icon.

Basically you are downloading 6.7mb of data for a few kb of changes, which should not be made to the iSync application anyway.

I'm quite sure it is against Apple's software distribution licenses to re-distribute modified versions of their applications as your own work.

The author really should learn how to create iSync Phone Plugins, that are installed in the /Library/PhonePlugins folder, well away from the iSync application to add additional phone support.

Apple Front Row

JOOLS912  Excellent! Finally Apple have fixed the 'movie trailer not responding' errors.

Also, it still works with Andrew Escobars Front Row Enabler. Just download this update and install using Pacifist if you don't have built-in IR.

(And for those who wonder what the point of Front Row is without an Apple Remote - there are many other remotes you can use with Front Row. I use my Sony Ericsson K750 phone via Bluetooth for instance.)

IntelliMerge

JOOLS912  I have absolutely no idea what's new in this v4.7. Once downloaded all you get is the new application.

No Read Me, no Release Notes, no Documentation.

It's a great app, but why is it so hard for the developer to provide ANY info with it?

Even the web-site says nothing and refers to the previous version on the product home page!
