JON T  Microsoft - the kiss of death to all good software makers.

I hope the developers enjoy their cash windfall while it lasts.

JON T  Mmm, not sure about this one. It produces a scrambled order of images from Aperture and on my MacBookPro has crashed routinely which is something that shouldn't happen AT ALL with apps in OSX.

I did get it as part of the MacUpdate bundle but am disappointed as it was a great way to access slideshows without firing up anything more than itself.

Skype

JON T  Don't think it doesn't work!

Skype has some big P2P issues today and very few people can connect.

I got on for a short time a while ago and it showed only 40,000 people connected. It's normally 9 million or so...

MACUPDATE ADMIN  There seems to be a network-wide issue with Skype. It is recorded in their heartbeat blog: http://heartbeat.skype.com/2007/08/problems_with_skype_login.html

JON T  The statement that Aperture doesn't handle metadata is completely erroneous. To suggest that MEM handles metadata better is utter tosh. Sorry.

JON T  I used to use iView Media Pro a few years ago. But reckoned it was already going downhill even before Microsoft bought it.

Not surprised to see comments now saying it doesn't work and isn't tested. What's new.

As a photographer, my solution is Aperture. I couldn't exist without it now.

DRADRIENYOUELL  Contrary to your experience, iView Media pro became my 'small-graphic user' de facto 'wunder' program.

BUT

I do not pay $600-700 for PhotoShop cornucopia nor will I pay Real Money for my wonderful iView Media Pro translated to Bill Gates' prices.

iView Media offered a full transition to 'Expressions' but now I wonder if the 'demo' means just that. I will not be paying Real money to Steve Balmer for 'Expressions' +

In sadness,

Adrien, London UK

ROELANDVBB  iView can handle metadata as no other program, Aperture or lightroom can not even get close to that.

The 'new' Expression Media had it's code rewritten (according to microsoft), and they managed to make it completely unusable. On a Windows system there are a lot of bugs, and on a Mac it is simply dangerous, you can destroy all metadata without knowing it.

Don't spend your money on this version.

But, if microsoft manages to get it right (...), the program has some unique options.

ROELANDVBB  Now, english is not my native language, but I think I said that EM handles metadata better, not that Aperture does not handle metadata. I use Aperture myself and am very happy with it, I find some unique features in Aperture.

What I mean exactly with the unique metadata options in EM goes beyond this 'review', but just look at the people / company's that use iView and you get the idea.

JON T  Just the best Panorama maker out there. Its simplicity belies just what you can do with this app. I have put together 7 and more Nikon nef files of 8 megs each to create panoramas of up to 15,000 pixels in width. The outputs are great.

I have tried many many different ways to create panoramas, and after many disappointments, used to rely on my own work in Photoshop. This app blows away all my previous efforts and I for one take my hat off to the developer. Incidentally, this is the first application I have felt strongly enough about to comment on in MacUpdate. Says it all.
