A followup to my own post: I can see the new items in the affected feeds by turning off NewsGator syncing and refreshing all feeds.

I can then turn syncing back on and read the articles, but still don't get any more updates in those feeds while syncing is on :(

The download link is *not* the final version of Firefox 3 — it is Release Candidate 3.

The full version won't be released for another 4 hours or so. If you want that, save your bandwidth for now...

Yes — audio for the video files is in VIDEO_TS. AUDIO_TS is for the DVD-Audio format: it doesn't need to be there on a video DVD (and it's usually empty anyway :)

Sorry, no idea — but it's happening to me as well. maczot.com, mupromo.com and dailykitten.com seem to be the main ones affected. I wish I could remember what the last version was that didn't do this, so I could roll back...

I didn't realise the garbage collector was to blame there: it does seem a bit slow to release at times, though. Hopefully that'll improve in 10.5.3 :)

Version 2.1.2 was using over 500Mb (on a 2Gb machine!) less than 10 minutes after launch. That's not good at all — it makes it unusable! (I am running stuff as well as iTunes and CoverSutra :)

The option to use Growl notifications seems to have vanished, too — please can we have this back? I don't want loads of apps that all use their own notifiers: I want everything to work with Growl…

The Snerdware website says Leopard compatibility is due in Q1 2008. We're now into Q2 and still no update. What the hell is going on here?

Hopefully now that Apple's licensed the Exchange protocols for iPhone this will filter back into Mail/iCal and we won't need to pay extra for kludges...

Looks good, but a couple of nits:

If you have a load of playlists in iTunes, and you're trying to share just a couple, you *really* could do with a "deselect all" button in the Music tab :)

I see "share photos from iPhoto"... but where's "share photos from Aperture"? I don't want to have to export all my photos just so my 360 can see them (one copy of each is quite enough to have lying around)

Growl notifications for svn commits - nifty!

Unfortunately the preamble is so long that Growl cuts off the commit message (at least with the iPhonesque Mini display style and "limit to 2-5 lines" on). I've hacked the text in my copy to be less verbose, but could we have an option to reduce it to something like "r1033 / bob:" to save space?

The text in the widget is a bit on the tiny side, too... it's fine on the main iMac monitor, but the secondary monitor is a CRT, and it's unreadable there. (Of course, I'd rather my boss replaced the CRT with a 23" Cinema Display :)

I've found it's better to drag the VIDEO_TS folder to the hard disk and point Handbrake at that version. It takes 20-30 minutes to copy across, but Handbrake runs MUCH faster and puts less wear on the DVD drive.

Looks good, but I have some movies in my Movies folder, and some on another drive. There's a symlink to their folder in ~/Movies, so Front Row can see them, but Connect360 won't follow the symlink and says I only have four movies :( Any chance of Connect360 handling symlinks?

My iPhoto library is also on another disk: Connect360 doesn't find it AT ALL, and doesn't have an option for me to say where it is.

Mind you, the library I'd *really* want to access is the Aperture library. Hopefully this will be supported soon...

Could we have the registration key as a multiline text field? Some programs such as GarageSale have newlines in their keys (workaround is to put these in Notes and use Option-Return to enter the newline, of course)

Having Command-N do the same as pressing the + button under the list would save a bit of time, too :)

I started KeyCastr and got a "Catastropic error" because the service wasn't running. Tried again and it started, but there was no Dock icon or menubar icon — I had to go to the Terminal to kill it.

This isn't some 10.5.2-related problem, maybe?

Hopefully once I've got to an icon, I'll be able to set a preference to only show keystrokes with a modifier key pressed.

It also seemed to be very difficult to move the window — it kept trying to jump back. The secret seems to be to keep pressing keys so the window doesn't try to close mid-drag...

What I'd LOVE to see is a "Scan" button (using the scanner's TWAIN driver or ImageCapture, like in Yep/ReceiptWallet)

I get a load of stuff on paper, and it would be so much quicker to scan it straight into Together, rather than open the scanner program, scan to PDF, and import the PDF into Together.

That's the one feature that keeps me with Yep rather than upgrading my old version of KIT, but I much prefer the KIT/Together interface, and would switch back if it were added.

Still 1.6? You need version 2.0 or higher to install the latest maps, or to use the MapShare functionality. So where's the Mac port of the current version?

I bet it *still* doesn't even let you control the TomTom from the computer, which is the only way to set a password on the thing.

Ah, hang on — it seems a Finder search for "kind:font" returns all these "FontExplorer X font" files — unless you restrict it to your FontExplorer X library, in which case it returns the correct font files and preview work OK. Very odd that it shouldn't return those AS WELL AS the "FontExplorer X font" files, but that seems to be Spotlight's fault :)

It's great - but under Leopard, apart from occasional crashes, it breaks the ability to preview fonts in CoverFlow and Quick Look. All you see is an icon saying "Font Explorer X Font", and no preview.

Even telling Finder to open all font files with Font Book doesn't fix this. Does anybody know how to restore this system functionality without removing FontExplorer X?

Actually, a reboot fixed the problem with CTRL-number not switching between spaces, but I'd still like to be able to use the shortcuts in Safari - say with CTRL-OPT-number?

icon
Type: Troubleshooting

Installed the demo on Leopard - now I can't use CTRL+number to switch between Spaces, even when Safari is not the focused app. It seems Saft is somehow eating this keystroke globally.

The "jump to bookmark bar item" feature is useful, but I switch between spaces a LOT, and don't want to use a different key shortcut for that. Please can we have an option to have Saft use a different shortcut, and to only have it absorb that shortcut when Safari has focus?

Also I can no longer drag tabs between windows, like I could before installing Saft. I know it provided draggable tabs in Safari 2, but could it be made to not interfere with Safari 3's tab-dragging code?

This is definitely a problem — the Tubetrack widget relies on being able to connect to mac.com in order to get the list of stations, and hasn't worked since I installed notMac.

Ideally it should pass all .mac requests (other than for the username I've configured) on to the REAL .mac.

Incidentally, the upgrade script doesn't really make it clear whether or not I'm supposed to manually disable notMac (and how I'm supposed to do that!) or whether the script is going to do it for me.

Nice style - but the bright green stripe on the "low" priority makes it stand out more than the "normal" priority, and there's no way to edit the colour of these stripes... (well, not without mucking around inside the package, anyway)

It would be nice if the title could be in bold, too - it's a bit difficult to pick out in the time the notification's on screen.

Great, but is it REALLY necessary for the text input boxes to use Windows key shortcuts rather than Mac ones?

Cmd-A is a lot easier than Home followed by Shift-End, not just because it's less keystrokes, but because it's the standard that EVERY OTHER Mac app (except Microsoft's, of course) uses.

I've lost count of the number of times I've looked at the "Fly To" box and found the previous search still in there with my new search at the end, because I pressed Cmd-A out of habit and nothing happened.

It can't encode audio from MPEG video files. The recommended solution is to convert the video to a different format and then use Video2SWF to convert the resulting file — meaning you have to buy a second conversion program, wait twice as long, and go through two phases of video compression. Ridiculous! There should have been a clear warning of this limitation on the purchase page — I only hope this post saves someone else from buying something so limited.

I can burn to (and read afterwards :) the same types of discs using a Burn Folder just fine (a shame Apple never thought to put disc spanning support in) so it's not the discs or the drive at fault.

What's going wrong here? I'm running out of blanks...

You could drag it to your Finder sidebar or toolbar, then you'd always have it handy (unless you were working from the Desktop, of course).

Agree it would be nice to have a floating window if you just run it on its own, though. I'd also like it to not break the icon — after I pass a PNG through PNGCrusher, it just has the generic PNG icon rather than the preview of the file contents, and I have to use Pinki to restore the preview...

"A USB tablet was not found when the system started. Please shut down your computer..."

This thing requires a REBOOT?

Wacom's Mac developers need to sit down and write out 100 times: "This is not Microsoft Windows. This is a Mac. We do not reboot just because we've installed something."

Incidentally, where is it getting the email address for the registration screen? It's not the one in the "me card" in Address book, which is what it should be grabbing. Unfortunately all the help links point to web pages that no longer exist - which shows the value of including the help files with the program!

After some fiddling, I found you needed to copy vstream-client from /Library/Application Support/TivoTool to /usr/local/bin - everything started working then.

Intel users - it's also worth downloading ffmpegX and copying the ffmpeg file from inside that app's package to /Library/Application Support/TivoTool - it'll convert a *lot* faster without Rosetta in the way :)

Slight problem with the subfolders feature - I have an 'all unread' Smart Folder which has one of its rules as 'Folder is not Work Email'.

However, 'Work Email' is the root of my work IMAP account. The Smart Folder correctly excludes everything in the account, including subfolders. but DockStar only excludes items in the root of the account, not the subfolders. As a result, the unread count is much larger than what actually appears in the Smart Folder.

(Given the number of folders in the work account, adding them manually to the rule is a bit of a non-starter, too :)

.mac syncing is useful, but expensive. I tried to set up .mac-free syncing with the incredibly useful MySync, but KIP doesn't appear in the list of applications it can sync with.

Not sure what's causing this (I'm assuming KIP uses Sync Services to do its syncing) but if this worked, that would be the killer feature for me.

Well, that and being able to encrypt individual items (or entire tags), and only show the previews/open the items when the password is provided :)

Great - this has replaced GrowliTunes for me.

The Show Growl Notication action doesn't work when assigned to hotkey 9 for some reason. It would also be nice to be able to choose the hotkey activation sequence - some of my apps use Command-Option shortcuts extensively, and I'd like to be able to change it to Ctrl-Command. Even better would be setting it on a per-hotkey basis.

Would it be possible to have Rate Previous Track commands? If a track finished before I can rate it, I have to go to iTunes and rate it in there, which is a pain. Shouldn't be too hard to keep a note of what's just finished playing, hopefully :)

It would be useful if Subscriber supported Growl as a notification method.

Supporting standard keystrokes like Cmd-Left in the text entry field would be nice, too :)

More worryingly, what is amber.x-dns.com? Subscriber tries to connect to this at startup - probably just a version check (but there's no option to disable this, and there should be). If you deny connections to this address, email notifications don't work. In fact, Subscriber doesn't even try to connect to my mail server. Is it trying to send email via x-dns.com, and if so: why, and what guarantee do we have that our email addresses aren't being harvested? It doesn't inspire confidence :(
