DTEARE I'm sorry for the delay on the Upek Eikon finger print scanner integration. There was a miscommunication between Upek and I at Macworld Expo in January. We were demoing a working Alpha of 1Password+Eikon and Todd (on the Upek team) assumed that meant the beta would only be a few weeks away and was telling everyone the Beta would be available by the "end of January". Having just been blessed by the arrival of my second child, I planned for a lot of time off and was aiming for late February. Somehow we never managed to realize what the other was saying and I apologize for that. We have also been delayed by a few other factors as well, so the Beta won't be available as early as I wanted. Please check the Announcements forum at http://support.agilewebsolutions.com over the next month or two as we'll be announcing it there. Co-author of 1Password (Version 2.9.9)

The Tube | Feb 17 2009 |
JEFF H. This has been hands down the most intensely unpleasant time I''ve had trying to instal a demo EVER! Its taken up over 15 minutes of my life, but thats all it'll EVER take up! I have a Miglia HD device running EyeTV on my G5 and its THE BEST! I have the same on my older Mini but it runs a little jerky/framey when it comes to any HD shows so I wanted to see if The Tube was any better. Well I'll never know...I can see being protective of your intellectual properties but you should at least let people try it out first! I installed it a while ago but never got the chance to use it...whiped it off my mini and attempted to reinstall it, but that doesn't appear to be happening. Oh well, from what I hear it isn't all that anyway so maybe they DON'T want you to demo it in hopes that you'll just say screw it and plunk down the $40...well bite me! I try before I buy...always. Do yourself favor and go with Eyetv...its great software...this might be good too, but I guess I'll never know (Version 2.9.2)

We are still working on this feature. You will need two updates in order to fully support UPEK fingerprint scanner in 1Password: a new build of 1Password application and an update of the Protector Suite software from UPEK. The current version of 1Password already has certain support for the fingerprint scanner (it still needs work) but it won't be activated until there is a software update from UPEK. http://twitter.com/roustem (Version 2.9.8b2)

JEFF H. I just bought this a couple days ago so I will give it more time to prove itself but after these few days my experiences have been mixed. When it works, it does just what its supposed to do and does it faster than any other method. HAGAR06 This issue is most likely not related to VideoDrive as iTunes and Front Row natively support MOV files. Just drag and drop MOV videos to iTunes and should have the exact same result (you can always add metadata later with VideoDrive). Maybe the disk where your MOV file is located in not always available? In that case, Front Row may respond a bit slower. (Version 1.7.6)

Griffin radioSHARK | Dec 31 2008 |
JEFF H. For my uses the Griffin radioSHARK has performed very well. It hasn't failed to wake my computer up and start recording programs. I have just set it up to start recording more shows with a somewhat complex schedule, so lets see how that goes. I'm also VERY impressed with the size of the resulting recorded files. Understand that I've only recorded AM shows in non-stereo and at a rather conservative setting (I believe 96kbs), but a 4 hour show is under 150 MB! And the sound is nice and clear. I've seen around that this has been an issue at least where this first generation (white), radioSHARK is concerned. When I first plugged in the shark I had nothing but static and was a little disappointed. I thought that the radioSHARK was its own antenna. I took advice that I had seen on a couple places and instead of buying a costly antenna I plugged in a cheap set of earbuds I had lying in a drawer. I don't know much about antennas so I'm not sure if the tiny magnets improved the reception but it was incredible! I must have quadrupled the stations that I was pulling in and they were strong and clear, both AM and FM. I would say try that first before spending money on an antenna. p.s. Got mine on amazon for less that $20 delivered! (Version 2.0.2)

Hear | Dec 12 2008 |
JEFF H. I really like this program, well, I should say that I like it on my Mini with a simple 2.1 speaker setup. I mostly watch movies and TV on this second computer and listen to no music on it at all. So I can't comment on how it makes music sound better/worse. But what I CAN comment on is the huge improvements its made on movies/TV. I used one of the movie presets, "Drama" I believe, and then tweaked it. I have an older set of Monsoon 701's so the sound produced by them was pretty good and tended to be transparent anyway, but the 3D effects of Hear were great! It ALMOST sounded like there were surround speakers. It DEFINITELY sounded like there was a center dialogue speaker. I tweaked Hear to seem more spacious and it was very impressive! But just for giggles I put Hear on my G5 that has Logitech Z5500 digital speakers. The Z5500 speakers didn't need anything to make them sound good, to me they are the most impressive computer speakers that I have heard. But I figured what-the-heck and installed Hear anyway. I lived with it for around 3 minutes and AppZapped it! I was very happy to see that after zapping Hear and a restart, everything on my G5 was back to normal and my Z5500's sounded great again. I guess it really depends on your setup and needs, but I recommend Hear, sorta'... (Version 1.0.3)

JEFF H. There are two things that are holding me back from getting this app. I should say that the look, functionality, and ability to customize are just great! 1. The lack of being able to adjust the amount of seconds/minutes it jumps to when you rewind/FF. It jumps forward like 3 minutes...I would want it to FF like 30 seconds, or better yet just scrub through quickly 1 second at a time. 2. Any video content that I play, QT, avi, DIVX, stutters every few seconds. Unacceptable. This may be due to the size of the monitor (30"), but I don't see that entering into the equation here...video NEVER stutters under any other apps, so, a bit puzzled. Thank you. (Version 2.6.3)

MRUBEN Don't blame the developer for your own lack of attention. From the app's icon to the developer's home page, to the easy availability on the home page of the product manual, it's totally obvious that this is for the Apple Remote. You should assume that it WON'T work with other remotes, not that it WILL. (Version 2.5)

NANCY BROWN It's certainly easy enough to hide the controller by just hitting control/C. It should disappear and not return until you hit the control/C keys again - even after quitting the application and relaunching, the controller won't come back unless you make it happen. If your having a problem with getting rid of it, it's not because the application can't do it. (Version 2.5.1)

I know that the comment/review area tends to be the emergency room when things go bad, so-to-speak, so that being said, this has been a GREAT app in the past. But this version sure is buggy! Lastly, I attempted to purchase this through Macupdate on 1/04 for the $9.99 sale price, which was supposed to go thru 1/04 and it was not honored, so I will not be purchasing Xhub, but it will be on my radar in the future. JEFF H. I really love this game! It took a few to get used to it's version of racing physics, but once I started to get it, it started to get more fun for me. I imagine that a wheel setup would be very good for this game, but I'm just not that much into gaming to have/want one. All (most) of the cars stear/handle/sound quite different, as opposed to other racing games where only the cars skin changes. Some cars are better for some tracks (as in reality), and it's a pretty neat challenge finding which cars react best on a track. The only drawback that I've seen is the VERY annoying requirement of unlocking/collecting cars/tracks. I like the ability to cheat in games, and this doesn't allow you to...but that's the only drawback I see. (Version 1.0.1)

The developer of 1Passwd just messaged me and said that they are probably going to implement an automatic feature for the submission of your passwords on the websites. So, I think there's a solution in the coming for your disappointment in 1Passwd. Take care. (Version 1.3.2535)

1Password | Jul 16 2006 |
Thank-you for taking the time to comment on 1Passwd; we are constantly trying to improve and value all feedback. I suspect that the problem you are encountering with being required to login is related to the built-in inactivity timeout. This is a security feature that will automatically lock the keychain after a certain period of inactivity. In the first few releases of 1Passwd, we set this timeout to an aggressive 5 minutes. Many people mentioned that they didn't require such a high level of security, so we have since changed the timeout to 60 minutes. This is, however, just the default setting. You are able to change the inactivity autolock to whatever time you want, or disable it completely. For more information, refer to http://1passwd.com/guide/admin/keychain_settings. JEFF H. I have a Plextor ConvertX with a USB 2 connection. The only problem/issue that I have is that after a certain amount of time (usually 15 minutes, but always within a half hour of launch), EyeTV pauses. This is a hassle as I have my rig hooked to a DVR and use the Plextor as a capture for digital cable, and to record from the DVR. There are a bunch of shows recorded on the DVR that I want to archive, and I often hit record on EyeTV and leave the room, only to come back to see it paused. This happens on all versions from 1.8.5-2.2.1. I've trashed the prefs and even the whole app just to see it the same. I do have an ATI Remote Wonder...think that has something to do with it? Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 | Jul 3 2006 |
JEFF H. FTP is gone on my G5... I upgraded some time ago from MX2004 to DW8. The FTP capabilties on my G5 are gone...I get all kinds of FTP error notices. I finally gave up and just upload with Transmit. Yes, it is an extra step, but I'm so used to it now that I just automatically open both. (trust me, I've tried it all, I've been at this awhile, but if there're suggestions, or if others have had this same experience and know the fix, I welcome suggestions) As far as DW8, other than the FTP thing (which I don't know if I can pin on DW8 anyway, as I can't seem to upload in MX2004 from my G5 anymore either, but my G4 will work with both!), it seems to be ok...again, I'm not connecting to my remote folders, so there's not a sync-slowdown going on. I like the extra features and it's never crashed, so I guess you can say I'm ok with it (Version 8.0.2)

JEFF H. Buggy, slow to launch, very choppy video (like watching a ViewMaster), drops connections, "can't connect due to network failures" (blah, blah!), doesn't recognize your connected cam half the time, FUGLY gui! All-in-all I HIGHLY reccomend this app! (Version 4.6)

MacTheRipper | Jun 28 2006 |
JEFF H. This is probably due to some of the new "Arcoss" (or whatever they call it), copy protection. Intentionally "bad sectors" are written into the DVD to try and eliminate ripping. Mactheripper version 3 sort of addresses this, but not every time. It does a very good job of it though, and gets around 8 out of 10. Version 3 is not readily available, but if you search hard enough on the www you'll locate it. (Version 2.6.6)

ShapeShifter | Jun 23 2006 |
JEFF H. You know, I used to use Window Shade, until I realized that it was causing WAY more problems than it was worth. It completely disabled the Apple DVD(even though I placed it in the "master exclude" list), among other things. Shapeshifter (I really have to control myself here...the temptation to use variations on that name are almost TOO great! LOL!), always screwed up my system. It seemed to slow things down, even on my G5 with 2 GB of RAM. It does look very cool, but makes things way buggy. (Version 2.3.1)

Logitech Control Center | Jun 15 2006 |
JEFF H. So far, ...so good. I've been using a trackball for almost ten years now. I've flipped between Kensington and Logitech. I feel that Logitech makes a superior product, but lousy software, and Kensington the other way around. Well, about a month ago my Kensington trackball started to stick when it was left for a moment...it was frustrating, and when doing very precise actions in, say, Photoshop (which I work with most days), it would seriously screw me up. So I got a Logitech marble mouse with "mini buttons" embedded in the left/right mouse buttons. So far, it's been great. I do miss the customizability of the Kensington SW, but I don't miss the cursor-stick. The Logitech SW is quite a bit short-sighted...this piece of hardware has lots of customizable potential, but I've tried the others to see if they'll expand it's use, but alas, the Logitech SW is the only one that recognizes the mini buttons (for now anyway). With the Kensington you could customize the mouse by making it "app-specific", having it act/react differently in any app...VERY cool. For now, it'll do... (Version 2.0)

Print Explosion Deluxe Updater | Jun 9 2006 |
JEFF H. Very limited and "clunky" app. It's very good for the clipart and the graphics, but the interface itself is newbie oriented at best (being kind), especially after you spend your day creating things for print/web in the CS2 environent. It is a $50 app, so you can't expect too much, but for a piece of software that deals mostly with type-for-print it's extremely limited in it's type manipulation/effects. I gave it about an hour and saw that it's a very limited app, but, for someone looking to get things (biz cards, flyers, programs, etc.) together on the cheap, I can see spending the $50. EyeTV Exporter | Jun 1 2006 |
JEFF H. I'm having the exact same issues...the h264 (I've found) is the best as far as compression to quality ratio. In EyeTV 1.8.5 I get the same as you (pretty sure the same error wording), and in version 2 it won't even open...so it doesn't hold much use for me. Maybe in a future update? (Version 1.3)

You can use one song for your entire slideshow by clicking the cog button at the bottom of the window, and choosing "Build Settings". Next choose "Sound Track" and "Loop Until end of movie". (Version 5.0)

ATI Remote Wonder | May 10 2006 |
JEFF H. Forgot to leave my opinions/review of this product. As I said before, it's a little hard to get the software, but once had/installed, this is REALLY a great thing! I had the Keyspan for 7+ years, and it was ok, but very limited...the ATI is not at all, rather, if you take the time, you can program ANYTHING into it that you can imagine. After doing all the setup you can export your keymaps and save for backup. I use it for EYETV, DVD Player, iTunes, Mediacentral (little limited for that one though..), Quicktime, VLC, and more. Great thing, very, VERY handy. Got it for a great price at newegg (as I remember 24.99). (Version 2.0.1)

JEFF H. I love this software...much better than Front Row and itheater. This may be exclusive to the ATI Remote Wonder, but the only thing I would would want to see changed is the FF and Rew. Instead of it going ahead either smoothly or at a few second increments, it jumps ahead/back minutes... (Version 1.2.1)

JEFF H. I was half hoping that I would be offered something other than a discount of $50 on the $400 processor they offered me AFTER I paid nearly $800 on a processor that died just 4 months after the warranty was up. I understand business is business, but not even 3 years on an $800 processor? That's just wrong! (Version 2.3b3)

CPU Director | Mar 27 2006 |
JEFF H. I just wanted to throw my 2 cents out there and say what a total dissapointment Powerlogix has been, and a small part of that is due to OWC. I purchased a cpu upgrade 3 years ago. It was a dual 1.4 GHZ and in my opinion was VERY expensive (over $700), but compared to buying a new Mac, it was a good alternative. It ran pretty hot out of the box, but with the addition of a couple more fans, it did run, and it was fast. The product was warrantied for 2 years...2 years and 4 months later it died...nothing but kernel panics, and after about 2 hours it wouldn't even boot. I contacted OWC, and then the run-around began! I simply wanted to talk to someone at Powerlogix, NOT their FORMER broker!(they said that they "no longer support Powerlogix", whatever that means). Well, that didn't happen! I was given by support at OWC, an email address, that supposedly was Powerlogix...it was OWC! This happened 3-4 (maybe 5) times. I finally called them, and from what the support tech said (or should I say, DIDN'T say), I got the feeling that they had some kind of a falling out. I finally got an email address to the president of OWC, and to his credit, he answered every one of my emails VERY promptly, but he ended up telling me that there's really nothing that he could do but offer me a CPU replacement at a "greatly reduced fee". This was nice and all, but just 2.4 years earlier I paid close to $800...I wouldn't take another Powerlogix piece of garbage for FREE, never mind pay for one! I wanted something BACK...I didn't want to spend another dime with Powerlogix! He then gave me an email address that he assured me was a direct link to Powerlogix...it was answered by an OWC support tech, AGAIN!!! At this point I realized I was getting the major blow-off, ate my losses, and ordered a new G5...a $3000 expense I STILL don't feel I should have put out. I will never, ever, EVER again in my life buy another Powerlogix product or have dealings with OWC!!! I shortly after this had a Logitech product go bad, and within 5 minutes they said "we're sending out a replacement today sir". Now that's customer support!!! (Version 2.3b3)
