JAZZYGB1  Incompatibility is the price you pay for running a beta operating system.

Doing that is like a broken pencil in my opinion...POINTLESS!

**...

JAZZYGB1  I like the idea of this app & registered it immediately (I like to encourage developers like this). For many years I have used the excellent 'Classic Menu' & 'Moof Menu' to do a similar thing & they have since become indispensable to me.

This app though is in its infancy & it shows - not least by the countless updates to it. Since I registered it just over a week ago there have been TEN updates. I very much applaud quick responses to fix bugs, but it's got to the point that you might has well wait. In the last 3 days this app has seen three updates.

I think it has a lot of potential but at the moment there are better solutions that are perhaps worth your attention. If (like me) you don't mind being a guinea Pig for a nifty little app like this then I'd recommend it. If however you are looking for a simple app launcher with no problems then I don't think this is for you...yet.

JAZZYGB1  Stop saying its a 'Beta' like this excuses everything. Take a look at how many bug fixes there are for the last official release. Hardly 'stable' as you claim to have been suffering from so many bugs.

Taken from the whats new in this version posted above....

Random kernel panics on virtual machine startup - fixed

SIW program crashes Parallels Tools Center - fixed

Choppy sound in Windows Media Player 11 in Vista Ð fixed

Hi' window sometimes appears on Windows shutdown - fixed

And many more besides.

And these are fixes for the 'official' non beta version.

At the moment Parallels is way behing Fusion & just seems to fall further & further behind - beta or not.

JAZZYGB1  Well these guys are a real mixed bag. On the one hand they responded really well to their early problems. In a very short time they sorted out the MacPro memory problems & it impressed me so much I ate my words, withdrew all my previous criticism & paid for their product & the subsequent upgrade to v3. Sadly I'd recommend that others do not do the same. Once again Parallels desktop has dropped the ball. It runs ok generally but without warning or explanation will just disappear & after a minute or two pop up a window saying it has unexpectedly quit. This problem has plagued the last 4 or 5 releases & has so far not been addressed at all. This makes playing poker online via parallels impossible, as in the middle of a big cash hand - Poof!

Your gone & so is your money.

It also makes it frustrating for any other serious PC software like Access. I can't tell you how many times I've had to start a database from scratch due to this problem - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fix it.

Also the promised 3D support is laughable. It works 2 in a 100 times & is more flaky than a cadburys chocolate bar.

For all the above reasons I reluctantly decided to try the VMWares offering. I had paid for Parallels already & really didn't want to have to buy another yet another product, but have to say it's better than Parallels at the moment. Crucially it is MUCH more stable & reliable (never crashed once) & here's the kicker - TOTALLY FREE!

At the moment. Its 'unity' mode puts the 'coherence' mode in Parallels to shame & the fact that this is still officially the 'beat' version shows much more potential than Parallels currently does.

I think its good for the Mac that there are two competing products but at the moment one is winning hands down & Parallels is sinking fast. Last time I placed a review like this they made me eat my words. I hope they do the same again soon, but somehow I dont think it likely.

DAI YI  I just jumped ship, too, after using Parallels for only 4 months. To be fair, I found Parallels worked fine for my limited needs. But their upgrade price was more than the special pre-release price offered by VMWare. After testing it out, I really liked Fusion better.

Other considerations: Intel just threw millions into VMWare, so the future seems secure, and there should be tight coordination between chip maker and software developer. I believe Cisco also will be working closely with VMWare. Although I never experienced the nightmare many have had dealing with Nova (save for having to call them to get a rebate) and was generally satisfied with Parallels, in the long term I thought VMWare would be a better "bet."

FIVELEVEL  I switched from Parallels to VMWARE when they came out with the Beta version. Parallels 3.0 is extremely unstable. I mostly use it to play duplicate bridge online, and Parallels would sometimes quit 10 times in a night. The parallels screen would just vanish, program closed with no warning, no message, just gone. It is worthless.

VMWARE is stable. Infrequently I will lose the connection, but the program does not quit.

The old version of Parallels did not do this, version 3.0 is a piece of crap. I wish someone would start a class action suit so we could get a refund.

JAZZYGB1  This is fab!

I love that there are people out there who do this stuff & for free too - it really is fantastic!

Thanks very much.

It allows me to play Knight Lore (which I STILL haven't completed), Manic Miner & all my other favourite Speccy games without the waiting for tapes, so my ZX can stay in the loft.

Superb - thanks.

JAZZYGB1  This is quite simply the best widget ever for the Mac!

It even includes most of my favourite speccy games - awesome!

Just add knightlore & Jet Set Willy & I'm in speccy heaven.

Also if at all possible, can you make the widget go 3x as big?

2 x is great, but the bigger the better.

great great job - thanks!

DPG4450GUY  Have you even looked at OmniWeb's EXCLUSIVE features, not available on any other browser?

Many people find those features enough to qualify for purchasing OmniWeb.

JAZZYGB1  Just to add that all it's 4 & 5 star ratings on the website are sites that I (as a Mac user for nearly 2 decades) have never heard of. What's more, if you click on the 'reviews' the software isn't actually reviewed at all, so the 4 & 5 star ratings are infact just made up!

Shocking!

Not trying to be nasty, but it's just terrible.

Anyway the following software can do it for free...

DVD2Pod - http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/20275

Handbrake Lite - http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/22065

No Frills DVD2iPod - http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/20113

And these do it cheaper....

Visual Hub - http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/21888

Forty-Two DVD-vx - http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/12150

JAZZYGB1  $29.00? NOT A CHANCE!

$9.00 maybe.

Handbrake lite is awesome & does it for free! As do a few other apps.

As it stands this is pointless software!

GarageSale

JAZZYGB1  After many hours????

My God this is probably one of the easiest pieces of software to use on a Mac.

What exactly didn't you understand?

Click on 'new template' to start.

For 'Title' Add the item for sale.

For 'Subtitle' add any extra info you want potential buyer to see.

Below that add the images of your item.

Below that enter a detailed description of the item for sale & select on e of the garageSales built in themes to make it look great.

What's so difficult about that?

I mean really!

Failing that you could be controversial 7 go here...

http://www.iwascoding.com/mediawiki/index.php/GarageSale_Manual

However I have never met anyone (my Nan included) who had to refer to a manual for this fab software!

***½.

JAZZYGB1  Well after reading half a dozen or so positive reviews of this latest version of Parallels (2.2.1920), I decided to give it a go despite my previous nightmares with this software. It's MUCH better. I wouldn't have believed they could make such huge leaps in such a short amount of time. it still has few niggles (it didn't se my DVD drives & wont support VM), but it DOES at last appear stable & doesn't half the memory of my Mac to do so. Good job guys. Sort out the niggles & you get my dosh.

Sony Ericsson iSync Plugins

JAZZYGB1  It's because Samsung phones don't have the same bluetooth implimentation. Sony Ericssons bluetooth is second to none. For some reason Samsung (and Motorolla & others too) nobble their bluetooth to only work with handsfree. My samsung D600 wont work with my TomTom Sat Nav for this very reason - my SE W9000i works a treat with everything. Bottom line is if you need a phone to work with a Mac, buy a Sony Ericsson.

JAZZYGB1  I'm sorry but if you are hoping to use this with a Mac Pro it's a total & utter waste of time. It's so buggy it's untrue.

Firstly it limits your RAM to 2GB. Not just for the app - BUT FOR THE WHOLE MAC. This in itself is ridiculous. Then after all that, it still kernal panics & crashes all the time. I am very happy that these guys are working on this app & one day it might be grat, but at the moment it's unusable!

GSM Remote
May 9 2006

JAZZYGB1  I have to agree completely with all the comments about the customer support - it really is outstanding, thanks.

However the interface is looking dated now. I've used it for last 3 years & it fallen behind other apps that have come onto the market. Apples iSync & Address Book offers most of the features found in GSM Remote.

The thing I'd most like to see changed is the handling of multiple telphone numbers for one contact. For instance my Sony Ericsson W900i has my brothers home, mobile & work telephone number under just his contact name (Bob).Unfortunately GSM Remote shows it as 3 different contacts - bobs/h, bobs/m & bobs/w which sorts of defeats the object of storing all the numbers under one contact to begin with.

This is still a very useful little app, but as times goes by it's getting overshadowed by the new comers.

It would be a great shame if this continued, as it's a fine app with a brilliant developer & was streets ahead of the competition a few years ago.

Please please please give it a revamp.
