JAZZYGB1 Well these guys are a real mixed bag. On the one hand they responded really well to their early problems. In a very short time they sorted out the MacPro memory problems & it impressed me so much I ate my words, withdrew all my previous criticism & paid for their product & the subsequent upgrade to v3. Sadly I'd recommend that others do not do the same. Once again Parallels desktop has dropped the ball. It runs ok generally but without warning or explanation will just disappear & after a minute or two pop up a window saying it has unexpectedly quit. This problem has plagued the last 4 or 5 releases & has so far not been addressed at all. This makes playing poker online via parallels impossible, as in the middle of a big cash hand - Poof! Your gone & so is your money. It also makes it frustrating for any other serious PC software like Access. I can't tell you how many times I've had to start a database from scratch due to this problem - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fix it. Also the promised 3D support is laughable. It works 2 in a 100 times & is more flaky than a cadburys chocolate bar. For all the above reasons I reluctantly decided to try the VMWares offering. I had paid for Parallels already & really didn't want to have to buy another yet another product, but have to say it's better than Parallels at the moment. Crucially it is MUCH more stable & reliable (never crashed once) & here's the kicker - TOTALLY FREE! At the moment. Its 'unity' mode puts the 'coherence' mode in Parallels to shame & the fact that this is still officially the 'beat' version shows much more potential than Parallels currently does. I think its good for the Mac that there are two competing products but at the moment one is winning hands down & Parallels is sinking fast. Last time I placed a review like this they made me eat my words. I hope they do the same again soon, but somehow I dont think it likely. (Version 3.0.5060) |
