JAZZICA No 20 second lag here, John, unless you run the script to verify startup volume. In Preferences, under the Advanced Tab, you"ll find "Verify the structure of start-up volume at launch". You have 3 options: Ask, Automatically Verify, and Don't Verify. Joel makes it very clear in the help files that all apps will freeze, and you might see a beach-ball, but just to WAIT, because it's over in about ... 20 seconds. So just go in to preferences and pick Don't Verify. (Version 2.1)

It's spelled *ss-licking, and it's an honest review for an app I've used for years, and NO, I do not have any connection to the developer. He doesn't pay anyone to write good reviews for him. He doesn't need to. He actually does something constructive with his life. Try doing the same with yours. (Version 2.1)

JAZZICA Perfect, as far as I can tell. Joel removed the "are you sure you want to shut down Onyx" pop-up as it was redundant. That was the only thing out of place, and it is now gone. Fixed. Every script seems to run seamlessly, and I find that Repair Permissions is as reliable as Disk Utility. The weekly tasks scream by (probably a function of 10.6 Snow Leopard) and the other maintenance and rebuilding scripts run without error. The cleaning tasks all seem safe to use. There were no hangs on any task, period. My Mac (2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 6 GB 1066 MHz DDR3) runs faster after every session with Onyx. This is a mature app. Some may not like that it weighs in at 50 MB, mainly from .lproj language files, or that it has a GUI function to make a "metal" window transparent. With stability like this, these kinds of criticisms become meaningless. What Joel Barriere has done is singular and a testament to his commitment to perfection: he's given us way over a hundred betas, fixed many bugs, learned a new language, learned about every path and every script while Apple threw him curves galore, and came out the other side victorious. This is an app (ok, a really user-friendly wrapper) that has grown over years and years because a developer believed in his vision and created what to me is the finest maintenance/cleaning tool for Mac OS X. If he charges for the newer versions, I will pay. If not, I will donate. If he feels that the challenge alone is enough, this reflects on his altruistic and giving spirit. I will use Onyx with the knowledge that it is one of those rare creations by a man of rare intelligence and creativity, who wanted to give us something more. He has. Five stars in not enough. SLIGHTLYCONFUZED Goodness, what's with the influx of angry people on this site lately? You give an honest review and people jump down your throat. Onyx is certainly my favorite maintenance app and I'm thankful that all this hard work from the developer does not come at a price. It's free. And it has saved me from many some bizarre issues I've had on my Mac. Nothing to really complain about. (Version 2.1)

JAZZICA This wrapper will never compete with Onyx. And it reeks of greed. Truth be told, I mentioned several times on this forum that it had certain scripts that failed to run. But it was free, and it worked relatively well. Now it belongs to someone whose obvious intent is just to make $$$. All of these scripts are built in to OS X and can be accessed directly from the Terminal, or, more safely, through a third-party app like CLIX or Onyx (and many others). They all do essentially the same thing. YASU is great and goes for 2 or 3 dollars. Onyx is the star and it's still free. Don't bother with this. (Version 2.0.3)

JAZZICA I realize that the parameters may be a bit buggy, and the alternating stripes issue has not been addressed. But I use Onyx simply to clean my system, and for that it once again passed all tests, three times. I know Joel will release a new version soon that corrects the problems in parameters. This is just one great wrapper for Apple's utility maintenance scripts. When the parameter problems are fixed, he gets a high five (stars) and we who can, should donate. This is like the gazillionth version he's put out. Bravo! (Version 2.1b2)

JAZZICA TSARKON- it's what you said. It's still a G-5, right? It's the new Mac Pro which I just bought last month. Also, should I worry about permission repair before the Snow Leopard install? It seems everyone has a different take on that. I have quite a few "bad" permissions but no ACL's out of place and my machine runs great (knock knock)

JAZZICA Absolutely perfect. No bugs or hangs on my G5 2.66 Mhz Quad-core Intel Xeon. There are probably only a few utility developers who will successfully tackle Snow Leopard. I have a feeling that Joel will be among the few. Excellent app, which I have used for many many years with only a few bugs. I think there have been at least a hundred iterations of this app. This version runs bug-free on my machine. Bravo. (Version 2.0.5)

TSARKON No, it's not a PowerPC G5 setup. If you mean generation 5 of the Apple pro desktop machines, that would be something else. But it's absolutely not a G5 processor at all. It's an Intel Xeon processor. No, you should not have to bother with repairing permissions. I don't think that will be necessary. Even though I can't say for sure to 100 %. (Version 2.0.5)

JAZZICA Joel Barriere is a wonderfully talented developer and an obviously very giving person. If we think of all the times his app has saved us from trouble, we might be inclined to send a few dollars via paypal to support his efforts. He really is something special ... I've used all iterations of Onyx over a period of many years, and only a few times did a "hiccup" occur - never a disaster. Keeping up with every path change and OS update, plus doing it all in a tongue not native to him... that's moxie, and that's real talent. A 5-star app from a 10-star developer. Word up, Joel! JAZZICA Dear Santa: Thank you Thank you Thank you! I have thrown away Yasu and Onyx and every overweight over-wrapped under-performing terminal access app... and MainMenu is running just fine. I missed it. I think most of us did. I have only one suggestion- no more brushed metal anything. Even with that, though, it's great. Not all of us are ready to enter terminal commands, and we all appreciate your efforts from our hearts. You keep the trains running on time! Keep it up! And thank you. -Jazzica (Version 1.5)
