Type: CommentsDate: 9 Jul 2008 01:29really want the .app, but I think it's overpriced. This cost twice what other file transfer tools cost. I would encourage the developer to consider lowering the price. Of course I wouldn't encourage the developer to do anything that would cause a loss in revenue, but I think the amount of new customers a price cut would create might justify the price change. just my 2 cents. great .app. super easy, fast, and robust. :-) wish i would of caught the MU sale.

Type: CommentsDate: 15 May 2008 13:212.1 is a great update. The fact that you can link to a Together entry from another Application is great. I haven't seen any other Application do this. The shelf has greatly improved. Getting stuff into the database has become so much easier with the addition of system wide hot key importing, bookmarklets, improved quick note, and best of all; everything that gets saved to the Together library in the Finder now gets automatically imported into Together. Sweet! :-)

Type: CommentsDate: 6 May 2008 15:16I think there has been a lack of innovation with CPN since I first purchased it a year ago. I've since moved to spreading what I did in CPN across a few different .apps, (OmniFocus, OmniOutliner, Together, and soon possibly Leap.) I think CPN has been slow to introduce Leopard technologies. Where's the Quicklook plugin? iChat theater integration? Core animation? System wide note and todo integration? Improved ical support (slow and buggy for me)? Anything? Do something with Leopard! Please! :-)
Also there are a lot of things I think Notebook has had to improve on for awhile. Better keywording (tagging) implementation. More 'Tiger like' quick instant search without distracting you from what your doing. I've seen lot's of requested features in the forum from seasoned users that I really wish were implemented. Development seems too incremental IMHO.
Nevertheless, CPN is still one of the best .apps for the Mac. Let's hope it pushes forward.

Type: CommentsDate: 11 Jul 2007 19:42Does anyone know if Yep has the intension to add web archive/bookmark support? I'm trying to find a solution to organize all of my pdf files, web archives, and bookmarks in one place. I tried Yojimbo and Devonthink, but neither have as delicious of a tagging as Yep. I really like Yep a lot. I just don't want to have to save all my web archives to pdf. I need them to be web archives.

Type: CommentsDate: 2 Jul 2007 01:47I'm a DTPO user, and though I like it for doing research, I have not been able to use it as a file archive (finder replacement), GTD solution, journaling solution, or much of anything else. When I try to use it for everyday stuff I spend to much time figuring out how to do what I want to do, and not enough time getting things done. I know some people use it for GTD as well as other non-research related tasks, and they like it quite well, so don't take my word for it. I think its that the interface needs improvements. I also think some of the functionality offered in script extensions should be built into the program in better form. If there were an .app that combined the technology and flexibility of Devonthink with the interface of Yep, I'd be really stoked.

Type: CommentsDate: 29 Jun 2007 01:02Same here - got my license 9 months ago. This seems unfair. I really want to upgrade because the new features look killer, but I can't afford to put another $70 into this .app. Errrr....

Type: CommentsDate: 22 Jun 2007 17:12Download link has been broken for a month, both here and on the developers website. I emailed the developer in May to see what's up, but I got no response. Anyone know if the project's been abandoned? I'd really like to try this .app.

Type: CommentsDate: 6 Mar 2007 16:27Though I do agree with you that customizing the icon used for a particular folder is easy, customizing a folder with a unique branding is a pain, and to mundane of a task to justify opening a real illustrator. I keep a few folders on the right side of the dock, where the name of a folder is not displayed. Without having the folder branded with its names initials (or a symbol), I get confused. I also don't like having the text displayed under Finder toolbar items, so having this always me to add identifiable folders to the toolbar. Regarding your opinion of the price... to each his own.
Cheers,
Eric (not affiliated with Y.M.S.)

Type: CommentsDate: 11 Jan 2007 23:17Thank you so much for this .app. I have a WD Mybook that won't respect OS X's spin down settings. I found a hack on macosxhints.com, but there was too much terminal trickery involved... too geeky for me. This .app solves the problem. Thank You!

Type: CommentsDate: 4 Jan 2007 11:23I agree that the Unison still needs much work, but I see no evidence that suggests that the program has been "abandoned". It already has a Leopard ready build. As far as the the support issue. I find it odd that people are either entirely satisfied or feel completely abandoned. I'd like to see them address this. One way to alleviate this would be for Panic to open a user forum. Having a forum has become a standard, and being that Panic has a huge user base, they should hop on it.
Happy New Year!

Type: CommentsDate: 25 Nov 2006 17:48If it were universal, I'd be in. Being that this .app is available on Windows, I figure they're not developing the Mac version in Xcode, and as far as I understand, porting an .app to a universal binary requires Xcode. I don't have an intel mac yet, but I'm planning on getting one soon, so I figure better not spend money on something that hasn't been ported. Otherwise, I'd be all over this.

Type: TroubleshootingDate: 21 Nov 2006 14:09I tried contacting Objectpark Software 3 times in the past 2 weeks for support. Twice to the support address for MCC, and once to their main email address. No response. I'm having a couple issues. One is that despite the fact the I have selected it to not check for updates, it still phones home upon launch (I'm a Little Snitch user). I am not subscribed to any calendars, so I am sure it is making the network connection for reasons unrelated to ical. Second is that when I have 'copy birthdays to this calendar' selected, every-time I add a birthday to Address Book, ical crashed. It also crashes when doing the initial copy, but that's no big deal. I could go back to having ical create the birthday calendar, but that isn't as nice because I'm forced to have it create its own calendar instead of copying it into an existing calendar. Anyway, the most troublesome of all this is that they won't respond to my support requests. 2 weeks should be plenty. Especially when I'm shelling out $20 for this app. If anybody could confirm my issues, and let me know if they've ever gotten through to support, I'd appreciate it. :-)

Type: CommentsDate: 17 Nov 2006 10:00Thanks for the response. Are there any options to quickly get the URL of a uploaded file? Like an option to copy the url of the uploaded file directly to the clipboard, or some other way to quickly grab the URL so I can email it to someone, or give to someone I'm on ichat with. Let me know. I put it on my watchlist so I can track its progress. I'm definitly interested. :-)

Type: CommentsDate: 16 Nov 2006 08:32This .app looks good. Despite the fact that I'm a PPC user, I'm kinda sketchy on buying .apps that havn't been converted into Universal builds. Type: CommentsDate: 6 Nov 2006 21:11I have some DVDs (NTSC) I want to convert to h.264 using Handbrake. Could somebody tell me what bitrate I should use to get the maximum quality without overdoing it so much that the enhanced bitrate isn't making the quality better? Does handbrake have a setting to just produce the maximum quality? I don't want to import my DVD collection only to find out I could of done something to make the quality better, so I'd rather get it right the first time. I tried asking in the forums, but I didn't get an answer. Thanks!

Type: CommentsDate: 29 Oct 2006 15:42Thanks everyone! Unfortunately, I'll probably not use Inquisitor with Camino anymore becuase if I remember correctly, 2.6.2 and earlier versions cause Camino to crash if numbers are entered into a search string e.g. '411'. Can one of yal' confirm this bug for me. Thanks.

Type: CommentsDate: 19 Oct 2006 08:09"... it has support for tags (called "comments," which you can search, and use to make new "collections" or folders)."
I disagree. Your definition of tags makes the concept obsolete (IMHO). Tags are things that you can view in a list and organize/edit to make it easier to categorize information. For instance; lets say I'm using delicious and I click on a tag called 'Mac'. It will bring up all the bookmarks I tagged with 'Mac'. Now lets say I'm in Yojimbo and I do a search for 'Mac'. It isn't going to just bring up things that I categorized as 'Mac', but it will bring up every instance of the word 'Mac', which in my case might be very many, whereas the items I might want to categorize as 'Mac' could just be a few. Now if you chose to use the comment area solely to tag information, and not to liberally jot things down, it could sort of work as a tagging system. (Although I can't remember if it's possible to narrow a search to comments. If not, it wouldn't work very well at all.) It's just that there would be no way to view a list of all the existing tags, or batch rename tags, or quickly filter entries by clicking through tags, or adding tags to multiple entries at once, or have any concept of which tags are being used to classify which kinds of information. As you mentioned, tags would become especially useful in combination with smart folders because they allow you to create an auto-filing system. :-) I didn't write this for the sake of being defiant. Just to share my opinion in a light hearted way. :-)
Cheers,
Eric

Type: CommentsDate: 5 Oct 2006 23:59The fact that an .app which is used to wipe out other .apps has been one of the most linked to and talked programs in the past few months is kind of ironic. I mean... it's even created its own verb. I don't uninstall applications... I Zap them! I have also adopted the word into my everyday vocab. I don't dump girlfriends... I Zap them! Perferences and all. I've noticed I download much more freeware/demoware since buying this .app. Great application... or should I say anti-application.

Type: ReviewDate: 5 Oct 2006 21:48Brilliant! One of the best applications I've ever used. Curio is very flexible. I've probably saved a rainforest worth of paper using this app. It allows me to brainstorm and record ideas faster than I can with pen and paper. Then it allows me to take ideas I created during the brainstorm and organize them into beautiful and presentable layouts. The develpers are very nice. Not only do they quicky respond to support inquires, they are also very receptive to feedback. 5 Stars!

Type: CommentsDate: 10 Sep 2006 11:36In Camino (but not Safari), if I include a number in a search thread it crashes Camino. So, if I search for '411', or 'Catch 22', it crashes. I emailed the developer. Anyone else have this issue? (If this has already been mentioned in a previous post, I apologize.) Seems like all my .apps made by this developer have been having issues. Hope things get better because though his .apps are certainly well conceived, they are in need of tune ups.

Type: CommentsDate: 29 Aug 2006 18:41Works for me.
1. Go to Prefs>Advance
2. Check "do not show dock icon".
3. Select O.K.
4. Quit Edgies
5. Go to your .apps folder and move Edgies out of the folder... (i.e. to your home folder.) Make sure you move it, not copy it.
6. Move it back into your application folder.
7. Open Edgies
That should do it. If it doesn't work, let me know.

Type: ReviewDate: 3 Aug 2006 08:50I love this .app. To me, Keynote represents what good software is all about. It is rare that you see such a combination of power, elegance, and inutuitivness. I don't mean to sound like another fanboy, but this one is just that good. To me, it is worth the full price of iwork.

Type: CommentsDate: 2 Aug 2006 02:07I recently gave this .app a try.
What I like:
1. The input methods are brilliant. I love the drop dock, the quick input panel, and the browser bookmarklet. Most PIM/Journal/??? applications only use the service menu, copy & paste, and drag n' drop on the dock to input information from other .apps (with the exceptions of CP's Notebook), but Yojimbo makes adding snippets of information to entries a breeze. In a matter of days the input process became second nature.
2. I love the pre-installed templates or "smart collections." Especially the one for serial numbers.
3. I like the customizable labels feature.
I don't like:
1. No tags/customizable properties.
2. No second level (hierarchical) collections. In other words, no outlining of collections and entries.
3. Limited searching capabilities, though this is understandable since there aren't many properties to search.
All in all, some really unique and well conceived features. The developer really understands usability. But, there are some missing features which I think are essential that will keep me from buying/useing this .app. I will keep it on my watch list to see what happens in the future. This is one .app I will not forget about. :)

Type: ReviewDate: 29 Jul 2006 01:28I love Journler! It's packed with great features. Is has a very tastefully selected combination of features - some inspired from other .apps, some Mac OS X standards, and some which are very unique. My favorite original feature is the method of resource managment. Resource management can be one of the biggest pains with Journal/PIM .apps. Journler has an original approach. It has a clean and elegant way of displaying all the files linked to or embedded in a paticular entry. It takes some getting use to at first, but that is not so much a fault of the program, but more of what comes with switching to an .app with a different way of doing things. It is much more intuitive than Devonthink. (Not to knock Devonthink; it is an excellent .app.) As mentioned in other reviews, the developer is a really benevelent guy, who is very open and responsive to feedback and support inquiries. The forum for this .app is very active, and willing to help newbies. The program is still a little bit buggy, and has some stability issues, but the developer is very passionate about his program, and with every release it gets better and and better. Don't let the current price fool you! This .app is a worthy competitor to other .apps of the same category, though I must say, defining what exactly that category is can be diffcult. Journal has all the features of a great "Journaling" application, yet the some of the goodness of Personal Info Managers, and Word Processors. I look forward to future releases!

Type: CommentsDate: 26 Jul 2006 14:00One last thing... If you look at the screen shot, you can see everything the .app does. It has no preferences, and most its menu items are found on the toolbar.

Type: CommentsDate: 26 Jul 2006 13:54Nice, but a bit lost. I'm played with this .app for a while and found that though it does what it's meant to do, and and is stable as far as I can tell, I could not find a practical means to bring it into my workflow. I currently do my web research with a combination of Devon Agent, iclip, and Journler. I feel like this .app needs more time to mature. What I think this would be great for is an .app for kids k-12 or anyone not very experienced with web research. One thing I think they should add are contextual menu items for copying selected text to the note pad, and images to the Photos bin. I'll keep it in my system and see where it goes. Peace :)

Type: CommentsDate: 25 Jul 2006 04:36It does what its meant to do. Plain and simple. I'll never use it, but I got a kick out of it for about a minute. Would be better if -
1. There was an option to keep it out of the menulet bar. I need the screen real estate, and the hot key does fine.
2. Would also be cool if one could navigate it via the keyboard.
3. Would be coolest if it had some appreviated search capabilities like noable launchers do. Or you could just download Quicksilver.
Cute. But for me it's useless.

Type: ReviewDate: 6 Jul 2006 10:25Good .app. I found the GUI a little non-intuitive and aesthetically insipid. I prefer the cocoa aqua gooey look. To each his own, right. Nevertheless, this .app is an essential to keeping my bookmarks organized. Good features. Stable. I thought it was a little expensive at first but upon further use I relized how much effort the developer must of put in to make this happen. Ugly icon... I replaced it with this http://www.iconfactory.com/preview.asp?type=search&id=218&query=puppy.
Overall... Sweet!

Type: CommentsDate: 30 Jun 2006 02:15I like how it indexes pref panes, widgets, and internet plug-ins. Though some people might find this useless because they are confident that they can easily zap .apps via a spotlight search and draging to trash, for others who are more paranoid, this works. This .app does what it is meant to do well. Period.
Warning: If you attempt tp Zap Appzapper with Appzapper you will be sucked into a worm hole and get spit out in the body of John Malkovich.

Type: ReviewDate: 8 Jun 2006 21:56Though quicksilver is touted for its openness, flexibility, and freeness I still will continue my loyalty to Launchbar because of it's dependability, stability, and support. Oh yeh, and also the fact that it is just plain wicked. This .app is so crucial to my workflow that it actually comforts me to know that the developers are being payed and are commited towards further devolopment and support. One thing that sucks is that when I sit down at a Mac without Launchbar I feel handicaped. I would recommend this to any Mac user. Superb!

Type: ReviewDate: 6 Jun 2006 22:44I'll second the previous reviewer. Nice GUI, nice rendering, missing essential features, unstable. There are actually two seperate applications in this download ; one is the reader, and one the delivery manager which should be included into the program. Once my MacWorld subscibtion expires I'll stick to MacWorld.com

Type: CommentsDate: 29 May 2006 19:41I had similar usability issues as other reviewers, and I found Virtue was only useful when I wanted to have more than one .app stuck to one desktop, and that only works if you have the screen real-estate to do so. I still like where this project is going! Lots of functionality issues still need to be worked out, such as having Virtue recognize certain applications and windows within applications. I look foward to future releases.

Type: TroubleshootingDate: 23 May 2006 23:13I have the "Type ","or"." to switch tabs option selected but I've run into a bit of a problem. Lets say I have the google search selected (command>option>F) and I want to start using the feature. I press tab to get out of the seach bar and it takes my to a text field in the web page (no good), so I press tab again and end up in the url field (no good) so I press tab again and I'm back where I started. So then I grab my mouse and click on the page for the feature to work. Anyone know how I can get around this without having to touch the mouse. I tried switching to "Full keyboard access" (control F7) but this only works on some pages, and I have to hit tab way to many times as every field/link/whatever gets selected in the page. Anyone? Type: CommentsDate: 23 May 2006 22:46Good .app but it messes up the dock hiding function. When attemptimg to hide (or show) the dock using command>option>D, while holding down the keys the dock will hide (or appear if down to begin with) but as soon as the key command is released it goes back to it's previous state. A bit annoying for us dock hiders, but not a very critical bug. Otherwise, this .app saves me a lot of time from fliping through menus to find a key command, and it keys my hand off the mouse which is a must.

Type: ReviewDate: 15 May 2006 13:15Great .app! Really great GUI! I don't have a huge use for it as I rather use Lauchbar to surf my itunes Library, nevertheless, this is really cool. I would like it if it had the features of Clutter (another great free app) which lets you copy Amazon artwork directly into itunes. Also in Clutter when you use the "Lookup on Amazon" feature it shows the results in the application as opposed to opening up the Amazon page in your web browser (as CoverFlow does). Overall... good and free.

OnyX and Cocktail have more features, but having Main Menu ready to use at moments notice for disabling the dashboard, and relaunching the finder/dock is cool. This program is really good at automating the maintenance. Needs to be updated for 10.4.6!

Type: CommentsDate: 19 Mar 2006 01:05Really Nice vlog/vidcast software. I like it a lot more than DTV because it is more stable and has way more features. Once DTV finds its way out of beta, it will probably be pretty good, but for now it's not to great. Fireant is still in beta, but it is running well. I can't wait for the 1.0 release!
Just a note, what will really be amazing is when Apple builds in a better podcast aggrigator into itunes, and better searching for podcasts. Searching for podcasts in the itms is not as well working as with music. Having a seperate app to do this takes up more resources than I'd like. Nevertheless, fireant is sweet.
