Saft | Oct 6 2009 |
JAYCE Both the MacUpdate link and the link at the developer's web site download an outdated version of Saft. This is not likely to entice new users to this application. (Version 12.0b4)

Blitz | Oct 1 2009 |
JAYCE I asked the developer whether Blitz worked on Snow Leopard; he said it does, and he was right. Now I can listen to an iTunes playlist while working on photos in Lightroom, and still not have to restart the computer every 45 minutes or so. And I can leave Lightroom open in the background if I need to deal with incoming mail. I think this application is worth buying. (Version 1.1)

NetNewsWire | Sep 26 2009 |
JAYCE I have used NetNewsWire ever since its first release, was glad to pay for it as it developed, kept using it when it became free, and was delighted to pay the comparatively low price to run this version ad-free. (I didn't mind the ads, which were unobtrusive, but I think the developers deserve to be paid for their efforts.) I very much appreciate the syncing of NNW to GoogleNews because it seems to work much better than the dotMac or MobileMe syncs ever did. This release loads fast in 10.6.1 and quits fast, unlike a few of the earlier versions. Adding new feeds is easy; deleting feeds that are no longer interesting is easy; keyboarding through feeds and entries is easy. Free or inexpensive, fast, responsive, easy to use, no memory loss or CPR hogging--there's nothing to complain about and much to admire. (Version 3.2)

Bookdog | Sep 15 2009 |
JAYCE I like most things about this application but not the fact that after I use it, Safari crashes if I try to drag a url into a bookmark folder. The only work-around I've found is to run Bookdog, quit Bookdog, go into Activity Monitor and kill the little piece of Bookdog that's still in touch with Safari, and then go into Safari's menu (once) for the Add Bookmark process. I hope someone finds an easier way to get the two to co-exist. (Version 5.3.6)

JERRY KRINOCK How about let's fix it instead of a workaround :) I've tried to reproduce this but it works fine for me, as shown in this short screencast. (Warning: Screencast has audio track.) http://sheepsystems.com/files/SafariNoCrash.mov Regarding the "little piece of Bookdog that's still in touch with Safari", I presume that Jayce is referring to Bookwatchdog. Although I didn't show that in the screencast, Bookwatchdog is indeed activated in the Preferences. I also did another test after Bookwatchdog sorted bookmarks and still no crash. We did have a crashing issue when Safari 4.0 beta was first released. Safari would crash if you were in the middle of editing a bookmark name when Bookwatchdog did its sorting. That was fixed a while ago. Jayce, if you or anyone else could tell me what to reproduce the crash, we'll see what we can do! Jerry Krinock (Version 5.3.6)

JAYCE Aurora 4.0.10 works just fine with Snow Leopard too. (Version 4.0.11)

JAYCE The MacUpdate link for 1.2.7 doesn't work but a More Info click will take you to the developer's site for an easy download. And this excellent app is worth the extra few seconds. (Version 1.2.7)

SpiralBound | Jun 12 2009 |
JAYCE I have been using this for several months and find it indispensable for note-taking and memo-keeping on a MacBook display. Because its icon is in my Dock I can click it up whenever I want to add info, check info, or sometimes delete info I no longer need. Among its many uses: daily record of what I've downloaded/installed/de-installed on computer; running list of user-names and passwords for new sites until I get the info properly encrypted elsewhere; running list of registration numbers and relevant info about new software; to-do list; snippets from Web that I will deal with later; and (I am sorry to say) running pages of what I will have to pay to Amazon or to Apple when the credit card bill comes in. But at least SpiralBound does the math for me! For the small price and the great utility, this is a steal! (And if you think this hasn't enough options, look at its sibling SpiralBound Pro which I use on my larger computer.) Never had a crash. Never lost info. Never resorted to censored language or hair-tearing. What else is there to say? (Version 1.0.4)

Flickery | Apr 27 2009 |
JAYCE Trouble! This update doesn't work for me, just pulls up blanks even when I'm already signed in to Flickr. I'm going to trash it and try reinstalling but if that doesn't work I'm going to try to find version 1.0 and reinstall it. I really liked this program--when it worked. (Version 1.1)

ODDYSSEEY Please try quitting flickery, removing the preferences file - it's in /Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/at.EternalStorms.flickery.plist and restarting flickery. It will ask you to authorize again - since it's lost its "connection" to your account - but then it will pull in all your info again and should work like a charm! If you need further support, please, do not hesitate to write me at support (at) eternalstorms (dot) at

File Synchronization | Mar 27 2009 |
JAYCE I've used this splendid app for long enough that I don't remember when I first got it. No traumas, no problems, no having to look at Help yet again. It's easy to use, doesn't require babysitting, seems to have made no errors of inclusion or exclusion, and has over the months and (I think) years become so much a part of my routine that I no longer think about it. (I've bought copies for every Mac I ever use anywhere. No one has ever whined to me about having it.) (Version 1.4.4)

Flickery | Mar 17 2009 |
JAYCE I downloaded Flickery today, looked at the web tutorials, and found the app to work as promised. Not only does it upload without hiccups (so far, at least) but it allows easy access to my contacts' accounts so I can browse their new pictures in one corner of my screen while I'm doing something else, examine the ones I really like, and comment on them right away. I also like the convenience of being able to see which photos I've already added to Flickr but I'm not sure how fast all the reloads would work on a dial-up connection. This app is certainly worth its current sales price, and it looks like one that is going to be even better in its next updates. I didn't need the 15-day trial period to find out how useful it is. If I had used this program longer and with more photos, I think the Stability rating would have been higher. Right now I don't have enough time with it to know. (Version 1.0)
