****.

JASON EMANUELSON  Wow, what a trip down memory lane! I remember making map after map and watching people play for hours on them. This is such a wonderful game. Yes, the graphics are primitive, but skill, tactics and passion are what make a good game. I hope this is just the beginning of a new era for Bolo.

There seems to be a bit of an issue with the scrolling of the window, but aside from that, it runs beautifully.

I am really anxious for a good map editor and I will start making maps again for everyone.

FCS Maintenance Pack
Oct 6 2009

JASON EMANUELSON  Not everyone wants to dig into things like you apparently do. The reason why software and and product/service is that it is to fill a need. Obviously someone saw a need that was not being filled, and maybe this was born before Apple documented al of the glaring issues with FCS. The fact that we even need a repair utility to keep a program running from a company as large as Apple is sad.

If it costs more than you want to pay, this is okay, but have you tried it to even know how well it works or if it does things that Apple's knowledge base does not tell you?

Adobe Photoshop CS4
Sep 23 2009
*....

JASON EMANUELSON  While I want to be able to give five stars, this version of Photoshop is the absolute worst version since 1.5. It crashes more than every other application on the machine combined, even after disabling their so-called killer feature of OpenGL acceleration. Drag a layer, crash; come back from screen saver, crash; stretch a type box, crash; numerous other things, crash. Like others, it slows the machine down after long periods of time, fills the logs with stupid errors that are still unresolved from Adobe. Only thing Adobe offers for the log errors is to wipe it out and reinstall the suite. Apps are suppose to get better. Photoshop started going backwards at CS3. Anyone that needs stability needs to wait until the next version, because this is the polar opposite. Adobe has taken after their old nemesis Quark and spent more time on copy protection than stability of the application that built their company. Photoshop CS4 (11) will cost you tenfold more in time and frustration than you spent on the whole CS.

JASON EMANUELSON  All people want these days is free. Forget that something takes effort, or people want to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table just like you do. I am absolutely amazed just how selfish people have become. How would you feel if something you had spent years on and had bankrolled up front was shot down like you just did? To make it worse, you do so in such a public way. This is so typical of Mac users these days and one of the reasons Mac users get criticized. Whine and complain that the world is not giving you everything you want for free. Software that costs $40 that is integral to most people's lives, and then you have software like Adobe CS, which is on average $1300. How is $40 that expensive for something that helps communication, brings order and in general makes life easier not worth $40?

People like this make me ashamed to use a Mac.

JASON EMANUELSON  Their contact form does not work (autoresponder with mail failure notice - address does not exist), and thus one is unable to ask questions of the developer. Something to be mindful of when purchasing software like this.

JASON EMANUELSON  So what. If the program does what it is intended to do, does it reliably, efficiently and without problems, the code behind the curtain does not matter. People that chastise based upon a choice in code are no different than people that base judgement on color, creed or gender. Merit should be judged on what the program does and how well it does it, not something that virtually no one will ever see.

If I make glass art, does that make me any less of an artist than one that paints with oils? Is a poet any less of a poet to type their prose over writing it longhand?

The bottom line is that the developer has made a tool for others that works for them and others, so they must be doing something right.

Men & Mice Suite
Mar 26 2009

JASON EMANUELSON  Atrociously overpriced for what it does. For any small hosting company, the price would be half of a car, at the least. Go get BIND and Webmin, or OSXS or something similar. These guys are cherry-picking only the top-end clientele. All of this, just for an interface to an already open-source piece of software.

JASON EMANUELSON  Prohibitively expensive and one of the absolute most complicated pricing schemes I have ever seen. I love the idea of their software, but the only ones that can afford it are big corporations. They would make a lot more money if the price wasn't in upwards of $2,400-7,800. Yes, they have a basic license, but it is for one person, does one file at a time.

JASON EMANUELSON  Too expensive for a unitasker utility. Besides, that, the author has more than doubled the price in less than a year. At this rate, it is going to cost the price of an OS in a couple years. I shy away from authors that do this, as do most companies and corporations. It puts them in a bad spot when it becomes a standard install and the price gets to be more than the value.

Logitech Control Center
Oct 11 2007

JASON EMANUELSON  Looks like it was not very well tested - again. Won't install here on any machine. Gets to the select a volume screen and does not show any available volumes. Why am I not surprised. Logitech needs to get their act together and start giving us software that actually works. Looks like as much time went into the icon as did the installer.
