Solve the horrific aliasing problem in Leopard (if possible - if you use the transparent menubar, the anti-aliased text is just not anti-aliased and is ugly as hell) and provide me with the ability to add events as well as to dos and this would be a 5 star app.

No sh*t Sherlock! The companies participating in these bundles aren't stupid - either they are first release apps that they want to get some traction in a crowded market or they are more established versions of apps that will be see new versions released (relatively) soon afterwards. Good grief - they are practically giving their software away for free in terms of how much money that get back directly by participating in these bundles so why be surprised that there is some form of marketing ploy behind it?

Fwiw, aquafadas are hardly the only company to have done this.

Every European country that is a member of the EU has been charging VAT on online purchases for years - it is a legal requirement.

You can debate the merits of whether the price should include the tax upfront or not (personally I prefer it that way over the US system of stiffing you at the counter) but for an online purchase, nothing prevents you from not proceeding once you know that tax is going to be added. It might be annoying to learn that you will be charged for it half way through the process rather than right away, but you don't have to buy the product once you know that it is going to happen.

Fwiw, the upgrade pricing now that the final version has been released is $79.95 and not $99.

Thank you for talking out of your arse on the basis of never having used any of OmniGroup's applications.

OmniPlan, OmniFocus and OmniOutliner are three completely different apps and are for totally different usage's.

What might be confusing you is the (very old and now out-of-date) Kinkless GTD set of Applescripts that were developed to convert OmniOutliner into a GTD app. It sort of worked, but the developer of kGTD became part of OmniGroup to help them create OmniFocus.

Actually a mixture of the Blocks plug-in (yourhead.com) with the BlocksBox theme (http://www.jonasthemes.com/) allows you to create your own individual and completely unique looking site within Rapidweaver. There are some limitations to what you can do, but it does allow for an almost WYSIWYG website creation experience at a price point that is a lot closer to that of iWeb than it is Dreamweaver.

1. RapidWeaver (partially WYSIWYG, especially with third-party plug-in additions and themes).

2. Sandvox.

Not everyone has basic to-do lists and the point of OmniFocus is not to be a basic to-do list, it is ultimately to be a GTD app (with enough flexibility to be usable by people who don't know anything about GTD). While that might sound like a trivial difference, it isn't, as the plethora of GTD apps that have sprung up recently testify to (with, incidentally, none suiting absolutely everyone's way of GTD, hence the number of different apps that have arisen - many different attempts at solving the GTD problem).

Are you sure it lost your data - did you check your filtering options as it might be the case that the way you had your filters set up led to the input data being hidden after entering it rather than lost. I would check your "View" criteria to make sure that data loss did in fact occur. However, if it did, I'm sure the OmniGroup would love to find out why.

Just drag it into the bottom right or left corner so that it is (virtually) off screen.

I really like(d) this widget, but the new look is exceptionally ugly. Please give us the option to have the old look... there is a reason I don't use Apple's calendar widget.

Also, when you resize the widget in its normal display, clicking "i" to show the preferences should preserve the new size instead of reverting it to a miniscule display that only shows about three and a half of your calendars at once.

Is it possible to set defaults for the shapes yet? (Or is it a paid for feature). It grows very tiresome having to reformat every rectangle and oval you add to an image...

If you are a web developer and the only Windows app you need to use is IE 6 to check your code for compatibility (and there is no Mac equivalent), then buying Parallels plus a version of Windows for several hundred dollars is not sensible or appealing. However, only having to pay $30 or so for Crossover might be. The wine project and Crossover have a place for some users for which bootcamp and parallels are complete overkill. Whether they can live up to their promise is a matter of debate, but if they can, then there is a market for them.

However, if you can't afford or don't want to pay a few hundred dollars for a combination of both Windows and Parallels (or VMware), and you only need to use one or two lightweight Windows apps, then this software is worthwhile.

This is due to browser sniffing by Google. Identify to www.google.com as e.g. Firefox or Safari, and it will work.

It allows you to create controls for software that isn't included in the limited set that comes with the phone by default (three - Desktop, Presentation and Mediaplayer) so that you can expand the HID set on your own.

It tells you the package (.pkg) source of any application files that use Apple's installer app, but other than that, not a lot.

Indeed a very good addition to RW, but it isn't without problems:

1. No ability to drag and drop images to the interface and no ability to add more than one image at a time. (2 points off the ease of use).

2. No way to add a text field for explanatory text (e.g. "the photos are of the family on holiday..." or "this is our catalogue of products"

3. No way to modify the direction or intensity of the shadow or reflection

(2+3 - 1 point off features).

However, what it does do, it does very, very well.

It works and does what it needs to do, but suffers from a few issues that are more to do with Apple's Remote implementation on SE phones - namely it is a bit trigger happy/unhappy. Some joystick actions are registered really quickly, others take a few seconds to occur, which makes it a bit tricky to navigate. This is an Apple problem on my phone as the other Remote control applications (from Apple themselves) have similar issues.

Thankfully I didn't suffer the deletion issue that others have reported (it sounds as though the developers have made a similar foobar as Apple did with that iTunes 4.x installer that wiped some people's drives!).

As I haven't had this (incredibly serious) problem and the app successfully installed, I'll review it on the merits of the actual app rather than its installer (0 stars!!).

I tried the 1.1 version but found it too annoying as I was continuously having to jiggle my mouse to avoid my screensaver kicking into action or to prevent the screen going to sleep, but this has been fixed.

The addition of iPhoto viewing is great, as is the album art to the iTunes viewing and this is shaping up to become a worthy Front Row for the rest of us.

I'm unable to give it 5 stars out of 5 though as there are some annoyances and the execution of some things could be improved:

1. Lack of mouse cursor when you are using the mouse. Granted that this is meant to be a long distance media viewer, where you aren't supposed to be on your keyboard or mouse to use it, but it would be nice if you could use the mouse when you are!

2. The iTunes feature:

• could desperately do with a Shuffle feature on all playlists other than just the Album ones!

• The title display gets truncated if the song title is too long to fit on the screen. It'd be better if the title wrapped onto the screen or the font size decreased to allow it to fit.

• Add something like the JewelCase iTunes plug-in as the iTunes front end and this would be a huge improvement. Even better - allow the use of the iTunes Visualiser instead!!

3. For the media playing - it isn't obvious which media player is being used for what. E.g. I think I am right in saying that WiMP appears to be used in preference to RealPlayer for e.g. the BBC streams. WiMP's quality of playback is awful so I'd rather have the ability to select which media players are preferred if there is a choice.

4. The sound effects:

They use a Garageband loop for the background music when navigating menus which is fine, but it is too short and becomes immensely repetitious after a very short while. For the particular loop they are using there are at least 2 or 3 others that are similar that they could add in to make it more flavoursome, but it would be better if they commissioned a few ambient tracks or from e.g. the Garageband user sites. I'm sure some Mac fans would be willing to do it for no fee.

5. Navigating the menus:

Painfully slow! They need some sort of iPod like acceleration where the start of scrolling is normal pace, but if scrolling exceeds a certain period, it accelerates.

Tip. To avoid the slow scrolling, you can tap a letter on the keyboard to jump to that part of the listing. However, that requires you to be near your keyboard which half defeats the purpose of the application.

6. Movie trailers:

• Some means of starting the download and then being able to go view something else until it is finished would be nice - those HD trailers take forever to download and you can't do anything else until they have finished otherwise the download is aborted. An ability to duck out of the interface to e.g. other apps or your desktop, but have it left running in the background would be one way to do this.

• Some means of saving already downloaded trailers - it is a bit dumb that you have to re-download a trailer again if you have already viewed it in a prior session (however, this is probably a limitation imposed by Apple's stream that the app may not be able to overcome).

There are a few other things, but I can't recall them at the moment.

Having said that, this is a sterling effort - it's really good now and it can only get better.

This version has become 50MB in size largely because it is now a universal binary (~41MB), not because of the inclusion of a few extra manuals and languages (~10MB).

Better than the reference section of the NEB catalogue in many respects (though lacking the plasmid maps) so a very useful addition to a biochemists/molecular geneticists toolkit. Together with 4Peaks from the same developers these apps are great.

Certainly saves you from having to hunt down the catalogue in the lab...

Very nice and with LinkBack integration built-in this becomes a handy addition to the Keynote and OmniGraffle toolset (especially as it overcomes one of the current limitations of OmniGraffle - its relatively poor 3D shape stencil).

One area where it could do with improvement is the addition of shadows/reflections to add more depth to e.g. the sphere shape which is otherwise too flat looking when filled.

OmniWeb (www.omnigroup.com) is able to capture web sites as a single long page by saving as a PDF - visit the site and choose Save as... while holding down the option key (the menu will change to Save as PDF...).

This differs from the Print dialogue Save as PDF... as it keeps the page as a single document rather than splitting it over several pages.
