INA MAKA I searched (really) about 4 hours for some way to make easy icons today. I am in the process of setting up my own site (beyond MySpace) and wanted to have cool icons I make myself with Photoshop. I could find NO information that really was helpful, most was way too detailed...and over my head. I thought surely SOMEBODY out there has found an easier way to make icons, that can especially KEEP transparent backgrounds on my images and size them for icons. I stumbled on FastIcns and downloaded it immediately--it sounded just like what I was looking for. It took almost no time to figure it out--it is just so darn cool, people. I like leaving the cube spinning on my desktop with my last design in it--ready for use in an instant. (You can make the cube bigger or smaller by pressing shift and dragging it.) The way I use the cube is to put any image onto the cube by dragging it onto the cube (psd images work too). If I am making an icon, I go to the fasticn's edit function and pick "copy as icon" then go to the folder that I want to change and open its icon by right clicking the folder and picking "get info". Then I press the old icon in the get info screen (probably a blue folder icon) and it gets highlighted and ready for the new icon, then I press "paste" and the new icon is created on the folder instead of the unimpressive generic blue folder. My only problem is that fasticn is just way, way too much fun. My work has been on hold all day as I make one icon after another for all my desktop stuff. Brilliant design guys! I'd have to say this is the sweetest freeware I have ever used. Good luck on all your inventions! (Version 3.1) |
