CandyBar | Dec 1 2007 |
IFWEBMASTER FreeBSD, sorry you don't feel that Candybar 3 is worth the cost to upgrade. Panic and the Iconfactory have worked very hard to create a compelling update to an application that has been around for over 4 years and now incorporates all of the features of Pixadex as well. While LiteIcon is indeed a useful (and free) product, let me just ask a few questions that may help to put the two products in perspective for you. • Can LiteIcon make use of Windows .ico files? • Can LiteIcon set your iChat buddy avatars? • Can LiteIcon keep and organize all of your thousands of icons you've downloaded over the years? • Can LiteIcon hep you convert Mac & Win icons to all manner of image formats quickly? • Can LiteIcon customize the appearance of your Leopard Dock? • Can it instantly customize any desktop folder or file you drop onto it? • Can you distribute your icon creations in handy, searchable iContainers that are used by thousands of users everyday? • Was it created by a dedicated team of programmers who have spent more than a decade creating quality Mac software just for users like yourself and who have a proven track record of updates, customer service and reliability? • And does it have a talented team of icon artists creating new, free content for the app on a regular basis? Of course the answer to all of these questions is no. I could go on, but I think you get the idea. All of these things are why CandyBar is priced the way it is. If you don't feel there is sufficient value there to justify the cost of upgrading, then LiteIcon is the app for you. (Version 3.0)

Frenzic | Mar 22 2007 |
IFWEBMASTER Sorry to hear your disappointment regarding Frenzic's pricing structure Gryph. A few points to note: A truly original game like Frenzic costs much more to design, develop and test than does one that is based on a previous concept like Tetris. This is also why Quinn is free, because they do not own the rights to the name or the game play and hence cannot charge for it. In addition, Frenzic's online scores, stats and community are at least 3 steps above that of Quinn or almost any other Mac based internet game of this type. Plans are in the works to make that community much more dynamic and rich as well. If players would like to be a part of this community for life, then we suggest purchasing the Guru bundle. If they are interested in playing mainly against their own previous high scores, then they can go with the standard Frenzic which *still* includes 6 months of free online access to stats, friends and more. Several options for different kinds of players. Thanks for listening, and hopefully one day, your support. (Version 1.1)

IFWEBMASTER After *extensive* testing on our end before the game was launched, mapping keys to the six outer circles proved extremely frustrating and caused more problems than it solved. The problem isn't the keys, its the player. We found that when a player would go to press a key to place a piece, they would select the key based on the *orientation of the piece* and NOT the position of the circle it was going into. This caused a kind of "brain short-circuit" in the player and he/she had to end up greatly thinking about what key to press in order to place the piece correctly. It definately was not as good a solution as the selection method we finally decided on. We were worried that such key mapping would make the game too easy, but it actually made it MUCH more difficult. (Version 1.1)

Frenzic | Feb 20 2007 |
IFWEBMASTER One of the challenges of the game is to find open slots for the pie pieces you are given. Since you cannot rotate pieces, you must plan ahead where to place them and try to keep space open as much as possible. The longer you go without clearing a circle, the more likely it will be that you will not be able to place a piece. If every piece could be placed, you would never lose a life and the game would go on forever ;-) (Version 1.0)

CandyBar | Apr 12 2006 |
IFWEBMASTER It's nearly impossible for CandyBar to affect the operation of Mac OS X. CandyBar is not a hack, nor does it patch the operating system. It simply replaces system icon files at various locations on disk with new files/icons. If you are suddenly missing folders, it's probably a coincidence that you recently installed CandyBar. But if you're still curious, e-mail us! (Version 2.6)

IF WEBMASTER Robin, Pixadex 1.0 was released in July of 2003, and since that time over 2 years ago, 10 versions of the program have been released, all but the last one free to registered users. Version 2.0 sported at least 10 major feature improvements including Printing, Smart Collection, customizable & nested folders (THE most requested feature BTW) a revised, cleaner UI, image importing, scan and remove duplicates, etc. We don't believe the upgrade price of $9.95 is too much to ask for a product that has been continually upgraded and improved for the last 27 months. Of course, your opinion may vary. (Version 2.0.1)

IconBuilder | Aug 8 2005 |
IF WEBMASTER If you are creating "one-off" icons for just the Macintosh platform, there are indeed several good, free or inexpensive icon editors available out there. If however, you are creating more than a few icons for multiple operating systems, or need to quickly and easily create toolbar, or image format icons then IconBuilder might be right for you. Also, if you have never built icons before and have a client that requires an icon that works perfectly on Windows 2000 NT, and you're not sure what resources should go into the icon, IconBuilder would be just what you are looking for. No other icon construction software helps the user to determine what is and isn't necessary based on platform or particular OS. This is just one of the many, powerful features of the filter. IconBuilder | Mar 17 2005 |
IF WEBMASTER Last time we looked, Icon Composer didn't save out Windows based .ico files. Nor did it tie in directly with the programs most icon artists use to create their icons - Photoshop and Fireworks. The ability to work on PS layers and then build desktop icons directly from them is something that registered users of IconBuilder have cherished since its release. In addition Icon Composer doesn't save out desktop icons (resource files) or open/drop states based folder icons typically used by hobbists. These are just *some* of the reasons why IconBuilder Pro is worth the price of admission. (Version 5.1)

iPulse | Feb 4 2005 |
GEDEON MAHEUX I think if you would give iPulse a chance, you would quickly start to recognize the individual gauges. Besides, the main UI isn't meant to display *every* single bit of data about your system, its meant to give you a graphical over view of what is going on using simple, circular bars. If something catches your eye you want to learn more about, simply roll your mouse over a bar and the info window will give you an expanded (and quite detailed) view of what is happening under the hood. iPulse is a "quick read" application that lets the user see at a glance what is happening, and one that happens to look good on any number of desktops. GEDEON MAHEUX You can ALWAYS revert to your original icons with CandyBar. Even after the demo mode expires, you can still use the software to revert to your default icons. If you are having problems, write to us and we'll get your system back in shape. If CandyBar can't restore, its most likely you were running custom icons via Shapeshifter when CB first ran and the app became confused. Write to us, and we'll help you out. (Version 2.0.1)

GEDEON MAHEUX Our customers know the value of our products and can decide for themselves if they feel the upgrade is worth it. Both Panic and The Iconfactory have given users 2 years of free upgrades on CandyBar and now with the new features added in 2.0, an upgrade fee is in order. If there are those, like yourself, who don't feel the upgrade is for them, then you can continue to use 1.x freely until Tiger is released. The choice is yours. (Version 2.0.1)

ICONFACTORY WEBMASTER Not all iContainers are CandyBar iContainers. Pixadex has the ability to export them as well, and if you attempt to open a Pixadex iContainer that does not have any icons assigned to CandyBar wells, you will get an error telling you so in CB. This is not a bug, its simply letting you know that this iContainer doesn't have any icons that work with CB. (Version 1.6.1)

CandyBar | May 8 2003 |
GEDEON MAHEUX Re: Rottweiler; If you think nothing has changed in this release then try running CandyBar 1.5.1 with Mac OS X 10.2.6. Each release of the OS needs to have an updated version of CandyBar in case Apple decides to move icon resources around. If you want the program to be as safe to use as possible, then these point updates shouldn't surprise you. And to Buud, please don't post a negative review and then not offer reasons why. Simply stating "Its useless" is unfair and is hardly helpful. (Version 1.5.2)
