HARV What I think this app needs is precipitation data, how much rain or snow in the last 24 hours, projected rain/snow fall (in inches or centimeters), etc. And if an average line can be added, so much the better When these data are added (or even promised by the developer) I'm good to go. You are right of course re Rosetta ( I was looking at the wrong line). And shame on me. Re 64-bit, I'm not complaining, I just want to know if there is an operational reason for the 32-bit, e.g., TTP won't work with older machines or whatever. (Version 5.0.6)

HARV Not a complaint or rant, really, but what is the reason TTP still requires Rosetta and is not 64-bit? (Version 5.0.6)

SHOCK J Rosetta? What? TTP does not require Rosetta. I don't even have Rosetta installed on my MBP (10.6.1) and it runs fine. Yes, it's still a 32bit application, but so is over half of the Mac applications out right now. Give them, and I mean all developers not just Micromat, a chance to update their applications. Snow Leopard's only been out 2 months. (Version 5.0.6)

SHOCK J The Intel Core 2 Duo is the first chip (used in a Mac) to utilize 64-bit architecture. Snow Leopard is the first Mac OS X to take advantage of this architecture. It's not about backwards compatibility, it's about forward compatibility. I have a first gen MBP, which only has a Core Duo chip, which means it only runs in 32-bit. I can still run Snow Leopard and any other application written to run in 64-bit, they just run in 32-bit mode. Applications just don't run in 64-bit mode just because the OS is 64-bit. Developers have to update/rewrite their existing applications, which previously only ran in 32-bit, to run in 64-bit. An application like TTP, which has hooks into the OS, will require substantially more rewriting than "normal" apps. And the last thing you want is an app like TTP to be coded haphazardly so that it jacks up your system when you use it. So you just have to give them time. (Version 5.0.6)

RWATTS I wonder if I've missed something... I've updated to TTP 5.0.6 but using the TTP Preference Pane requires restarting Sys Prefs in 32 bit. Explanations anyone? (Version 5.0.6)

HARV On a 24" Intel C2D iMac, 10.6.1 Nearly every time I launch FB, I get the advisory that I must enter my serial number. This occurs so often (about 90% of the time) that I now keep an alias of the File Buddy.fbAutoReg on my desktop. I'm wondering if anyone is experiencing the same problem and if there is a fix. I just wrote the developer. Should I get a response, I'll post the relevant details. (Version 9.0.2)

HARV In case you missed it (from the developer's site): "As far as I know, PithHelmet (and more importantly SIMBL) is not compatible with Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6). Once I get a new Intel-based Mac with Snow Leopard, I'll look into it." I fear this could be a very long wait... (Version 2.8.5)

::MILE:: Well, it was nice as long as it lasted -- even if it was only for the last few weeks that the current version showed up…!? And now that's unusable again… But I guess the arrival of 10.6 was too unpredictable for the developer to foresee…!? ;))) Never mind, I guess I'll just give up on ever finding a decent ad-blocker for Safari and try to get used to all the advertising crap… (Version 2.8.5)

PithHelmet | Aug 30 2009 |
GARY30 Try Safari AdBlocker. All of this stuff is 32 bit tight now, but AdBlocker has been solid for me. The only thing that's wrong with 32 bit is that it's not 64 bit :) (Version 2.8.5)

Addressix | Aug 14 2009 |
HARV Like others, I found this to be a very nice app, getting a bit old in the tooth, but still nice. Apparently, Snow Leopard, does not install Rosetta by default. One must choose the custom install and then proceed. Addressix is the last app that I have that was writtren for PPC, and thus, when installing Snow Leopard, I will move forward and switch to a different address app rather than installing Rosetta just for this app. Indeed I enjoyed the ride, but it is coming to an end... HARV I almost didn't buy v5, but I weakened. And now the moral is clear. Sadder but wiser am I. Even if it were free, 'tis hardly worth the angst. I have 2 internal, 2 external and 1 off site backup. Should I have a problem, I'll revert to verified backup. And if that doesn't work, I can still save time and grief by (even) doing a clean install. Perhaps MicroMat can merge with Intuit (just a suggestion)... (Version 5.0.5)

HARV According to the notes: "Added a new feature to display and modify the user's list of learned words of the Mac OS X spell checking subsystem." I have hunted about but still can't access/find the location of that capability. Clearly operator error, but please, any help would be appreciated. And, FWIW, I really appreciate the feature of adding TinkerTool to Tinker Tool System and thus avoid opening both applications. (Version 2.0)

iDefrag | Jun 8 2009 |
HARV I am not (yet) an iDefrag user, and my knowledge/understanding of defraging/optimization is nil, so I well understand if my question is off base. SuperDuper allows me the option to erase a drive/volume prior to copying the backup. Doesn’t the erasing accomplish the same thing? I know iDefrag has more bells and whistles (some are of no benefit to me) and it may defrag faster, but as I use/schedule SuperDuper while I sleep, I see no advantage there. So for folks such as me, why use iDefrag? No offense is intended to the developers, I just don’t understand. (Version 1.6.9)

BUMBLEB SuperDuper and iDefrag has nothing in common. iDefrag is for defragmenting your main drive. (Version 1.6.9)

iDefrag | Nov 5 2009 |
SNOWWHITESICKETTE I think Harv is thinking of remapping the disk, not defragging. (To fix bad blocks on a hard drive, Harv?) SuperDuper! does not remap the drive when it erases the data. You can do that with Disk Utility. In the Erase function, there is an option to write zeros to the drive. Zeroing out is what remaps any bad blocks, simply erasing does not. One pass is enough, unless there is very sensitive data being erased. Zeroing out takes a lot longer than erasing, and additional passes multiply that amount of time by the number of passes. Defragging is done as maintenance of the existing files on a drive, which would be pointless if the drive were going to be erased. (Version 1.7.1)

HARV The download above only produces v1.6.9. The Dl from the he developer directed us to (on VersionTracker) (http://www.smartbeginningsorangecountyva.org/media/software/DockChanger.zip) produced v1.6.1. Has anyone been successful in obtaining v1.7.5? If so, how? Please help. FWIW, I find it a sad commentary that after all these months the developer still cannot find a site or mirror to support his products. Two weeks ago I wrote to the developer asking for help. As yet, no reply. I have enjoyed DC, but as of now, I can no longer recommend it. (Version 1.7.5)

HARV The DL and install were without issue. And having an additional 5 presents is most welcome, though it seems (to me) that having all 10 presets visible at the same time is readily doable. Perhaps in the next version- As for me, the only thing missing from this app is an equalizer with reverb capability, similar to the one in Real Player.
