Type: TroubleshootingDate: 16 Mar 2008 13:36v.2.4 is NOT Leopard 10.5.2 compatible!
I updated iMac 24" (Core2Duo) to 10.5.2, then installed LCC 2.4, restarted iMac and... Mac stopped booting at the blue screen. Waited 10 minutes - no progress. Had to log in in Safe mode and remove all LCC kext files from the System folder, then iMac could boot in normal mode. Logitech, please update this LCC version so that it's really 10.5.2 compatible!

Type: TroubleshootingDate: 24 Dec 2007 14:36I can't create and print out A4 PDF booklets from A5 pages from Pages 3.0.1. I open empty page, set page size to A5, type text, about 7-8 pages. Then press Print > PDF... > Create Booklet. A4 format PDF document is created and open in Preview application, 4 pages, on each page side there are two original A5 pages. To print booklet, I check that page is A4 format (it is), press Print from File menu, in Paper Handling options I set "Scale to fit paper size: Borderless A4". So it should print page to fit A4 page. Then I press Print button. But in the printout text is much smaller than A4, it is almost like A5! There is no way to get full page A4 format output. If I do the same steps from Mellel text editor, then PDF document which is created from Mellel's A5 document is printed on the whole A4 page. Somehow Pages generates PDF booklet with some wrong settings, which prevent correct printing on the whole page, even if "Scale to fit paper size: Borderless A4" option is checked. I have MacBook Pro 17" 2.33GHz, Mac OS X 10.4.11, HP deskjet 5850 inkjet printer with original Tiger's driver. I use Create Booklet PDF Service 1.0.1 to create PDF booklets. Type: CommentsDate: 12 Nov 2007 18:43Wow! Surprise, suprise! I thought it's to remove useless code regardless of which system I use. For PPC Macs - remove Intel, for Intel Macs - remove PPC code. It turns out this is not the case. Maybe you could write with bold letters that this app is only for PPC Macs? So that Intel Mac owners wouldn't even bother with it. For Intel and PPC Macs there is excellent $11 application Xslimmer. I tried it today and it works (almost) perfectly.

Type: ReviewDate: 27 Oct 2007 14:08After several upgrades and hoping to get good and working application I've given up and I switched to DEVONthink Pro. My problem with SOHO Notes was that originally it was very slow to open and slow to search. Chronos improved bit by bit here and there while finally v.6.5.1 was quite fast. But in v.6 they also introduced so many unnecessary features that for me SOHO Notes became bloatware. Document scanning, DockNote, blogging - that was overkill for my needs. I can always scan with the scanner's software and drop files into my notes application. DockNote - completely unnecessary for me. For blogging I better use some native blogging application, like ecto or MarsEdit.
And unfortunately on my MacBook Pro Spotlight constantly failed to index SOHO Notes database, and I had to live without search possibility. 1/3 of database got indexed, 2/3 never did. I disabled and enabled Spotlight, rebuilt database Index maybe dozen of times, but no luck... I saw some note in the application window with the particular words in its name which I was looking for, but when I searched for these words, SOHO Notes found nothing. I knew there should be at least 5-6 notes, but it found only 2, because even internally it used Spotlight for searching its database.
Finally it was enough for me and when few days ago MacZOT offered 50% discount on DEVONthink Pro, I switched. Wow, what a difference! First, it opens twice faster, secondly, its search speed is probably 10 or 50 times faster! It's really lightning-fast, and its Artificial Intellect finds and sorts also similar entries. The only grip with DEVONthink Pro (DtP) is that the current version doesn't provide any data to Spotlight, so I have to remember to search Spotlight, *and* also DtP database. Developer promises to offer Spotlight indexing in the next major version upgrade, whenever it'll come.
So unless you need notes sharing between workgroup members, DEVONthink Pro with its instant search and Artificial Intellect search and sort capabilities is much better solution.

Type: CommentsDate: 21 Aug 2007 16:43If the SuperDuper! author would agree - maybe there would be possibility for SD to pass on disc name which is used for cloning? Because SD knows to which disc it is cloning internal drive. So perhaps you could use %disc code and SD would insert correct value?...
![]()
Type: Hint/TipDate: 21 Aug 2007 14:59Why this couldn't be script we could use directly in SuperDuper? There is possibility to run script before or after cloning. Why not make script which SuperDuper could run to disable Spotlight indexing and then automatically eject that disk?
I found other work-around - I disabled clone disk indexing in System Preferences/Spotlight. Just drag your mounted clone disc icon into Privacy section of the Spotlight options in System Preferences, and it will never be indexed. But if your script could be inserted in SuperDuper!, it would be even better.

Type: CommentsDate: 12 Mar 2007 15:19Ideas from COMPUTERWORLD magazine, by Scot Finnie:
Image conversion among all major image formats and the capability to select a new default file format from among those image types.
A facility that lets you control default options for some file formats, like number of colors and quality/compression levels (as with JPEGs, for example).
Automatic, sequentially numbered file naming with user-specifiable root names (such as "OSXLeop_###") and folder-save-to locations. It should also let the user specify the starting number of the file-naming sequence.
A capability that lets you optionally hide all but the Apple default desktop icons and other user customizations.
User-configurable screen-capture delay with audible and/or visible countdown. This feature is sometimes required to set up and capture open menus, drop-downs, and so on. There should also be an option to include or not include the mouse pointer.
Automatic selection of common object elements, such as program window, menu bar, toolbar, icons, the Dock, etc. (Apple's built-in Command-Shift-4-Spacebar key combination does this, but the facility is otherwise very limited). Snap-to selection for parts of objects is also very desirable. Any product that offers only a manual drag-selection tool for parts of the screen doesn't make the cut.
Important functionality: A capture-preview window that appears before you save the file, so you can review it and make appropriate alterations.
The capability to add basic (and preferably subtle) edge effects, such as rules, blurring, ripples, tear-aways, white borders and so on.
The capability to make assisted selections within the preview to save as separate shots.
The ability to save named sets of settings (such as file format, image quality, file name and file-save location, and object selection type) that can later be called by the user to suit specific capture needs.

BBEdit recognizes character encoding, and for those who use other languages (not just English) this is very important. And I really like new BBEdit! (v.8.6). It's much better than it was before, and price also has dropped from $200 to $125. As soon as I'll find some way to buy it for $60-80 (coupon or discount), I won't hesitate. For my needs it's way better than TextMate. I've got skEdit, TextWrangler, TextMate, Taco, jEdit, but when I look at these editors, nothing comes close to BBEdit. It's still the King.

Type: ReviewDate: 28 Feb 2007 19:40This is by far the best application launcher!
To launch applications I use Ctrl+Option+Command + the first letter of the application.
For example:
to launch Mail - Ctrl+Option+Command+M,
to launch Safari - Ctrl+Option+Command+S,
to launch Keynote - Ctrl+Option+Command+K, etc.
For folders I've set Ctrl key plus the first letter of the folder.
Applications folder - Ctrl+A,
Desktop folder - Ctrl+D,
Home folder - Ctrl+H,
User's Library - Ctrl+L,
Movies folder - Ctrl+M,
Photos folder - Ctrl+P,
Setup folder - Ctrl+S, etc.
For other folders with the same first letter I added Shift key:
Music folder - Ctrl+Shift+M,
Sites folder - Ctrl+Shift+S, etc.
To launch Spark itself - Ctrl+Option+Command+1,
To launch System Preferences - Ctrl+Option+Command++.
You've got the idea. Nothing beats it's speed!

Type: TroubleshootingDate: 2 Aug 2006 13:40Notae doesn't remember width of the columns. (For example, Name column width). Could you add column width values in the application preferences (plist) file?
If I add Tags which don't fit in the column, tags are displayed over the next (Created) column. If I resize Tags column to the right, Created column still has the end of the tag labels visible. Clicking on any entry removes that artefact. Or, if I make Tags column too narrow to display all tag label, and then make it wider by moving Created column to the right, again the right end of the tag labels remain visible on the Created column. Can this be corrected?

Type: TroubleshootingDate: 2 Aug 2006 13:231. If I type in the Search field some word, Notae lists entries where this word is present. I select some entry and see that word highlighted. Now I delete that word in the Search field and type the next word I see in the currently visible note. Next word is highlighted, BUT - previous word also is still highlighted! There should be some refresh.
2. If I copy some portion of text into the Clipboard (and that text starts with the opening quotation mark), and paste it in the Search field, all text string which is found gets highlighted with the grey colour, but as soon as I click on it, every word gets different colour highlight. (After that clicking somewhere else doesn't change highlight colour). Is this behaviour correct?
3. Could you add option to search for the exact phrase? So that all other instances of individual words wouldn't get highlighted or displayed in the result list. For example, if I set some phrase in quotation marks or square brackets, or something like that.
4. How about adding folder list in the left pane, similar to Apple Mail 2 Mailbox pane? It would be much easier to sort and classify notes. And I could create and use Smart Folders too! For example, Smart folder for all notes with the "Audio" tag and creation date
. Wow! Notae would become ÜberNotes! :) This feature is very important for me because I'm looking for the application where I could store all our publishing house book texts (about 10.000+ pages) for easy lighting-fast search. Without folder list it's hard to manage tens and sometimes even hundreds of chapters of text... And a little bit more robust search capabilities (like exact phrase) would make Notae perfect candidate for this purpose! (I hope it can handle 10.000 pages of text without loosing speed?)

Calq is excellent calculator, but the developer has disappeared, company is gone, and there is very little hope that we (Mac community) will ever see it as Universal Binary. So maybe you could make similar app as UB? Or maybe you can pass this message to those who develop similar Mac apps?

Type: ReviewDate: 11 Jul 2006 03:24I really don't understand why this app was developed... I downloaded, installed and ... what kind of syncing are we talking about?
"It synchronizes seamlessly with the Address Book and iCal so that users can continue to use them and other applications that rely on their data."
I don't see my Address Book contacts here in Organizer, I also don't see my iCal calendars here (and I suspect I cannot even import them, or at least I can't see any commands in the menus for that).
If this app was meant for syncing calendars and address books without a .Mac account, then place Sync button right before me in the toolbar. If it is meant to manage address book information in a better way, then show my address book here. Now I have to import vCards. Thank you, I am not that patient to import 1092 vCards! All I can do is drag that file icon arround the iXiu page and right-click > Cut to remove it. Even choosing Copy doesn't copy that ifle into Clipboard to paste it in another folder...
I am confused about the purpose of this application. Drawing on this page where file icons are dropped - what this is for? Why should I do this?...

Type: CommentsDate: 17 Mar 2006 04:30OK, according to some readers of my comments it turns out that the scrolling problem in Word 2004 can be eliminated by unchecking "Match font with a keyboard" check-box in Preferences, Edit section. What it has to do with the scrolling, I have no idea, but it really works! Go figure...
I just wonder is this feature turned on as default or not? Maybe I've turned it on myself? If casual user will check this cehck-box, he/she will never guess what's causing scrolling problem and won't be able to fix it by himself, as this check-box doesn't look like anything realted to scrolling, it's more about keyboard input matching...
Anyway, thank you for the tip!

Type: ReviewDate: 16 Mar 2006 09:53I have to confess that there is no way to submit these bugs to Microsoft... I haven't found any support option to communicate to MS about the bugs in Word 2004. Here we go...
1) First problem concerns scrolling. While in Page layout (or even in Normal) view, I cannot scroll down to another page, because Word immediately brings me back to the place where the cursor is inserted. Sometimes I just open some Word document, and immediately try to scroll down and... it'simpossible! - I'm immediately back at the beginning of the document. (Sometimes not -- can scroll for a while, but usually within a minute or so scrolling becomes impossible due to the bringing me back to the point where the cursor is inserted). So, I scroll down, but immediately Word jumps back to the beginning. Then it's a speed game -- who will be the first -- Word (bringing me back to the beginning of the document) or me (inserting cursor in another page to stay there). Even after the Service Pack 2 this problem hasn't gone. In our office we recently bought iMac G5 17", I installed Office 2004, and again this problem. I really wonder are we the only ones who experience this problem?
2) Word for Mac 2004 hasn't all languages in the language list (Tools menu > Language...) as Word for Windows 2003. And that causes major problems when I receive Word documents for revision from Windows users. They send me documents in Latvian. Because Mac version doesn't have Latvian (and also doesn't list Estonian or Lithuanian) language in the language list, as soon as I instert cursor in the Latvian text, Track Changes adds comment to that line that I have changed language to Czech! Try to amend organization's bylaws or constitution documents when such things happen! I simply cannot even touch such documents which involve Track Changes feature. And when I send documents back to the Windows users, instead of Latvian they have Czech language, and hyphenation on their computers doesn't work anymore...
Another problem: If I enable Russian keyboard input, then inserting cursor in Latvian text causes Word to switch input to Russian, although I have also Latvian input. Every time I change cursor position, I have to switch back from Russian to Latvian input.
PLEASE add Latvian to the language list. I don't care about hyphenation and other extras. All I need is to not damage documents written in Latvian and be able to type in Latvian without constantly switching keyboard input! Currently the only solution to the input switching problem is to leave Latvian as the only keyboard input. but still Word thinks that I'm typing in Czech...
3) I've noticed that after any change in System in User's font folders, it takes very long time for Word to launch. I tried to disable "WYSIWYG font and style menus" in Preferences (General Options), but hadn't any progress. Sometimes it takes about 2 minutes to launch Word!!! Do you think it's OK?! I've noticed that I have to open and close Word twice this way, then it starts to launch as expected -- just a few seconds. But after running Yasu and cleaning all System, User and Font caches, at the next launch I have the same problem again. Word opens painfully slow...
I wish M$ could do something about font menu list -- so that the font list would display only Font family names in the main list, and move all those Thin, Thin Condensed Italic, Semicondensed Bold, Extended Bold, Black, etc. style variations to the submenu...
In it's current incarnation I cannot recoment Word 2004...

Type: TroubleshootingDate: 16 Jan 2006 09:18What has happened to Branding Iron? I downloaded version 1.0b from your web site and when I opened it I got the message that it has been expired and I need to buy it. Pressing Visit Website button Safari opens your home page, but there is no link to any web store to buy it... And actually this is the first time I download and try this software. Why am I asked to buy it immediately without testing it first?

Type: CommentsDate: 9 Jan 2006 09:19I agree that application icon isn't the best. It reminds me of BMW badge on the hard drive... AUthor could change it to something better. maybe make contest for the best icon?
regarding db placement. While I agree that it could be located in Library/Application Support folder, I also agree that placing it in the Documents folder keeps is safer, as this folder is more likely to be backed up. I agree that it would be good to have multiple data bases. For example, I know that the file I'm looking for is located on DVD, not on a hard drive, so I can open DVD catalog set. Or, perhaps it would be better to list all catalogs in FileFinder's window, and user could check which sets should be used for searching.

Type: CommentsDate: 1 Jan 2006 17:11First of all, very good idea! Specially for Windows switchers :)
Some things to improve:
1) Ability to add/remove toolbar icons. I don't need most of them (Keychain, Network Utility, NetInfo Manager, System Profiler). Instead, I'd like to have Spotlight search field...
2) Shortcut for Preferences (Command+,)
3) Button to view/hide hidden files right in the toolbar.
4) Ability to remove or hide buttons at the bottom (F5-F9).
5) Why black frames around the status bar fields at the bottom (just above F5-F9)? Could they be removed?
6) When I open Xfolders, I see blue glow around the Copy button, but the bottom of that glow is missing or hidden behind the dividing line below. Can it be fixed?
7) I'd like to have option to set initial paths for both panes in Preferences.
8) Could you add file/image preview drawer?
9) Please add Favorites roll-down menu, or drawer, something similar as in Panic's Transmit.
Why not use unified toolbar theme? It looks much better...

Type: CommentsDate: 29 Dec 2005 11:33Very nice beginning! I have a few wishes:
1) I wish it had editable text layers.
2) Text tool automatically create new leayer for each text entry.
3) Paintbrush, Penil and Smudge tools could have option to show it's real size, not just center crosshair.
4) Gradient tool could show direction line when I drag it, to give me better idea about the direction.
5) Gradient Style options could be shown as buttons, so won't need to open menu to set desired option.
6) Selection Tool options could be shown as buttons, so won't need to open menu to set desired shape.
7) Actually Options section could have it's own section in the palette, so I could have it always open. Brushes and Textures could be also separate sections below each other. Maybe something similar to the OmniGraffle palette design? - I can detach each one and move where I want, and I can "stack" them into one tall palette, if I want to.
8) Why not use Photoshop Zoom In/Out/Fit shortcuts? (Command+=/-/0) It's industry's standard...

Type: CommentsDate: 23 Dec 2005 15:13Good application, but for this level of application I'd expect to have ability to create ISO image file, but I cannot... Come on, Roxio! ISO is industry's stnadard, and I need to create ISO image files to share them with the PC users. ISO files, not DMG or TOAST files.

Type: CommentsDate: 23 Dec 2005 15:06Too bad that I already spent money on Catalog... I had to spend again on FileFinder. It really makes so big difference (up to 12 times faster!), that I couldn't use Catalog anymore...
I had problems finding files with the Latvian characters. One e-mail to the author and within one hour it was solved in the latest beta. THE BEST CUSTOMER SUPPORT I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED. This is the fastest file cataloging tool I've seen. Highly recommended!
It's easy to use, I just wished it had little bit more search options, but the latest version (1.2.5) today added quite a lot of options. Thanks!
