GRID SPLICER I have a PowerBook G4 with Leopard and it takes iScrobbler and incredible amount of time and processor crunching to appear in the menu bar. (Version 2.2b2)

PETER DA SILVA Try dropping back to iScrobbler 1.5. It's much smaller and tighter. (Version 2.2b4)

ANGELASTIC I was also using a PowerBook G4, and found that iScrobbler was often using quite a lot of processor (though I was used to my computer being slowish, and liked being able to scrobble tracks I'd played on my iPod, so I kept using it.) Now I've just upgraded to a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 3GHz, and iScrobbler still quite often uses more than 70% of a processor, and does so for several minutes at a time. Luckily I have plenty of processor to spare now, but still, that's pretty excessive given that I have the fastest Mac laptop currently available, and it uses about the same percentage of processing power as it did on a four-year-old Mac. Is it polling or something? (Version 2.2.1b1)

SafariStand | Nov 21 2007 |
GRID SPLICER After updating my system to 10.4.11 Safari wouldn't start. Only after I deleted the SafariStand files from my computer, everything functioned properly again. Please provide an update for the application, because it is very useful. Thanks! (Version 3.0L151)

FontDoc | Nov 15 2007 |
GRID SPLICER The idea for this app is great. However, I stumbled upon three drawbacks. One is the fact that when you have "Show all typefaces within fonts" disabled, it frequently chooses just the font I don't want to see. E.g. small caps when I just want to see the regular or book version of the font. Two is a major bug: when I let FontDoc display all the fonts in one folder (in my case 371) with the "Show all typefaces within fonts" enabled, it crashes. When I divide the folder in pieces in order to reduce the number of fonts, it still crashes. Three is another major bug. When I let FontDoc display the contents of the same folder mentioned above, but with the "Show all fonts..." disabled, it seems to work, but then from the fonts starting with P onward, it keeps repeating the same font until the end, even though it lists all the font names correctly. When I open the individual font files, it works, so there is nothing wrong with those. There is something wrong with FontDoc! (Version 1.2)

ALLEN SMITH As I mentioned to the previous poster, it's impossible to debug problems with something as tricky as fonts without more information. I strongly recommend that anyone having issues contact me (the author) directly. (Version 1.2)

Transmission | Nov 9 2007 |
GRID SPLICER Transmission's interface is great in comparison to most other bittorrent clients. And it's free. However, there are a couple of drawbacks to this app. Firstly, there are problems with reactivating downloads. When performing a file check, the program skips data. The download then resumes much earlier along the line than it was when you paused the download. Very annoying, especially when it concerns a large file. I've had it multiple times, addressed it in the Transmission forums and received no answer. Secondly, a minor issue. Transmission supports download queueing and you can of course designate files within the torrent for downloading, but I think Azureus has a far better solution for that. Changing torrent priority in Azureus is more effective, and you can pick the files to download before activating the torrent. In Transmission, you do this after activating, which is not so handy when you only want one or several files. (Version 0.92)

MIKURO You can disable files within a torrent before starting it, but first you need to stop Transmission from automatically starting torrents as soon as you add them. There's a checkbox for that in Preferences > Transfers > Managenent. With that disabled, you can select the torrent and disable files before you start it. It WOULD be nice if Transmission could (optionally) pop up a dialog like Azureus, but oh well. (Version 0.93)

Carbon Copy Cloner | Oct 24 2006 |
GRID SPLICER Back up went fast. CCC is a good app. I had to watch out, though. The first time, CCC found a corrupt file it asked me about. That can happen. But when I pressed the Ignore-button, it just skipped my entire Apps folder and continued copying the rest of my drive. That process could not be stopped, as force quitting CCC did not stop the copying! I had to Log Out instead. The second time everything went well, save for the folders in my User Home it made invisible. Why? (Version 2.3)

TechTool Pro | Oct 24 2006 |
GRID SPLICER I agree. Techtool does what it says, it looks great, it is very rich in features and thorough. Before using TTP, I backed up my disk with CCC. (Version 4.5.1)
