GRAHAM JONES Hi (From Developer), I always knew that Elgato would catch up with me -- iEye Captain was mainly useful during the time EyeTV was not delivering infrared or multiple hard drive support, and now that these are both possible within EyeTV, interest in my app has really bottomed out. As a result, I can not afford the development time necessary for a full Leopard update. Version 1.0.8.3 has been workable on Leopard for most users -- if you have bugs to report, by all means please do email them to me. I can't promise any ETA, but if I get enough requests I will try to put some time in over the summer. Thanks for understanding, Developer. (Version 1.0.7)

GRAHAM JONES PARTIAL LEOPARD SUPPORT I have run into some snags, and will unfortunately not have a full Leopard-compatible version until sometime in February. However, you may have better luck using Leopard with this build: http://www.sjones.info/Downloads/iEyeCaptain1083.zip Thanks for your patience, Developer (Version 1.0.7)

GRAHAM JONES Hi (from developer), I am currently working on Leopard compatibility and expect to release a free update sometime in December. However, I can confirm that until I release this update iEye Captain WILL NOT WORK ON MAC OS 10.5 / LEOPARD. Thanks for your patience. Developer. (Version 1.0.7)

just a reminder that I have not yet tested iEye Captain on Leopard -- I will be getting my copy as soon as I can once they go on sale, and I'll do my best to run it through its paces. If you do decide to upgrade to Mac OS 10.5 and encounter any issues, please contact me directly by email (use "Contact Developer" or "Report a bug by email" from inside the app), and I will do my best to fix the issues quickly. GRAHAM JONES Hi (from developer), 2 PPC users have reported problems launching 1.0.7. I am working on a fix and should have it within a couple of days. if you are also experiencing this issue (or to give me an all clear) please email me at info@vidcan.com and let me know the details of your system and the symptoms. The other user who had the same problem reported that cleaning system caches, doing cron jobs (regular Unix system maintenance by a tool like MacJanitor), repairing permissions, rebooting, and re-installing fixed it. It may have only been one of the above... a bad cache file, or something particular to her system... If you experience this problem you may want to try the same steps. They are helpful maintenance steps to do every so often anyway. Developer (Version 1.0.6.3)

I received one other report of this, but haven't yet been able to isolate what conflict might be causing this. Can you please post back or email me with system details? The only other report was on a PPC Mac... Are you running it on an Intel or PPC Mac? Graham Jones, Developer. (Version 1.0.6.3)

GRAHAM JONES Hi Chiefted, Many thanks for your kind comments. I hope no one thinks by not adding "new" features that it's not still a great and very usable program. Also, I'm still very much around, and will be actively supporting it. Who knows, when I update it for Leopard support I might "accidentally" add a feature or two. ;-) Graham. (Version 1.0.6.3)

GRAHAM JONES I have made the tough decision that though I will continue to support and debug iEye Captain, I will be discontinuing development of new features. Recent changes in EyeTV are making it difficult to innovate the way that I used to, and because Elgato doesn't share their development schedule with me, I can spend months developing something that is obsolete the day after I introduce it. iEye Captain's tool box, including rapid-fire screenshots, iCal, alias, and text exporting, infrared control, savable advanced searches, and other features will still be useful for quite some time, and most are unlikely to be added by Elgato anytime soon. And with the new $15 purchase price, it is more cost-effective than ever to add these features. Thanks for understanding, Developer. (Version 1.0.6)

EyeTV EPG Proxy | Sep 12 2006 |
GRAHAM JONES Absolutely amazing!!! I never could have imagined that it could be so easy for us Canadians to have EPG support! Now I know what we've been missing all of this time. The installation process is very simple, with step by step instructions laid out. It only took a couple of minutes, and now I have a perfectly working EPG!!! Wonderful job Guillaume, and thank you for making this publicly available for free. No need to call it 0.9--- should be 1.0 in my books. (the developer of iEye Captain) (Version 0.9)

GRAHAM JONES Hi RC (from developer), Thanks for your comments. You're absolutely right, my app is not for everyone... I passed a battery-powered drill and a table saw at a half-price clearance sale today, and boy would I have loved to buy them! But of course I didn't buy them, because I knew I would almost never NEED them. That said, there are countless EyeTV users (especially those with an analog unit) who desperately need a way to control their cable box or satellite for a higher quality image and more channels -- iEye Captain is the ONLY way to do this, and I've had to work many hours with 3 different hardware developers to make this happen. Lots of people have databases to keep track of their recordings--- iEye Captain is the only way to get non-video data out of EyeTV without a painful cut & paste process. If you are even a moderate EyeTV user, you can find you quickly run out of hard drive space... again, iEye Captain is the only way to use more than one hard drive with EyeTV--- up to 7 drives. Many people have streaming devices that depend on aliases or symbolic links to stream to their devices. Especially with EyeTV 1's cryptic naming scheme, iEye Captain proves indipensible for this. Until EyeTV 2.0, iEye Captain was the only way to have playlists... And many users have 700-800 recordings at once--- the advanced search can be incredibly helpful-- for instance, finding which shows have been edited already and are ready to burn. I love EyeTV 2.0 -- but I sure wish I could sort my the episode name, which I very often need to do,,, So is it for everyone? No, definitely not... If someone just bought EyeTV to be like a Tivo, and they don't need to control a cable box or satellite, they may not find one thing useful. But there are tons of people that have been begging Elgato for exactly these features -- those are the people this app is for. Graham Jones (Version 0835)
