Videotron Monthly Usage
Jun 26 2009

GLOBE-TROTTER  Even if it installs OK now, it is still 100% flawed. After restarting MacBook Pro, widget doesn't connect to my account (shows exactly as in screen shot: "An error occured" in red). Also, my Videotron monthly maximum allows me to 20 GB dnld and 10 GB upld (1 year fixed contract). Widget does not allow to specify dl/ul separately in prefs, just a single monthly max transfer. I tried 30 GB but since it does not connect to my account, it is completely useless.

Videotron subscribers: keep on using the excellent Videotron Internet Usage Monitor widget instead.

GLOBE-TROTTER  Thanks "MacUpdate Admin". Now it does open properly! Originally, using Safari 4.0 or Firefox 3.0.11 (I tried both), it was downloading only as "Videotron.zip" instead of "Videotron.wdgt.zip" like presently. I'll give it a try, but my previous comments are still valid.

*....

GLOBE-TROTTER  This one definitely needs work. The zip file doesn't uncompress into a ready-to-install widget, but into all of its parts instead. Useless. Since most Videotron subscribers are French speaking, this widget should be bilingual (even if only usage data is really important here).

For the reason mentioned above, I coudn't install it and really test it, but according to the screen capture, it tells you only the total GB used. It would be nice to see also how much percentage used so far over the total allowed. The starting date of billing (varies from one customer to another) and the last update date would be appreciated too.

I will definitely stick with the excellent Videotron Internet Usage Monitor ( http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/25623/videotron-internet-usage-monitor ) that provides everything needed in a simple and well designed widget. The only difference: it updates once a day while this one says it updates every 3 hours. But a daily reminder is sufficient for me.

MACUPDATE ADMIN  "The zip file doesn't uncompress into a ready-to-install widget..."

Yes it does, at least on my three Macs. Try another browser to download it.

CheckUp
Jan 24 2008

GLOBE-TROTTER  Since my previous trouble comments (see Jan 23), CheckUp works fine except for the same 2 features as you mentioned (computer temperature and disk space) that keep on popping even if my max. settings are not reached. Fortunately, those can be disabled to enjoy the other features.

GLOBE-TROTTER  Crash at launch might be caused by Firewall Security settings in Leopard. Pay attention if you setup firewall to monitor incoming services and applications individually. This may not function properly with CheckUp (beta version) the first times. It finally worked for me after 3 attempts.

Technical support at app4mac was quick to reply to my inquiry (and in my language: French!).

CheckUp

GLOBE-TROTTER  I was able to use a previous Beta version once or twice a few weeks ago, that's it. Now, any new version crashes at startup, even if I uninstall app., pref., etc. and reinstall from scratch. I use, on a daily basis, other app4mac applications with no problems but this one needs serious fix before spending 49$ for the final version of a software that does what OS X already has mostly built-in or other freeware/shareware do for free. Great look, though...
