Type: CommentsDate: 9 Apr 2008 05:48Thanks for clarifying. And as I said, indeed I made a comment. :-)
I guess that after seeing a few 5-star reviews at VersionTracker and here, from people who have never reviewed anything, I'm a bit cynical. We all start with a single post, but I stand by cynicism :-)
I'm glad it's working for you, and I agree that they are very responsive. I just wish that in my case they had been consistent with their response instead of telling me that I was entitled to an upgrade and then telling me I wasn't.
It goes beyond the monetary issue. After all, I paid more for Freeway Pro, and I may buy today's MUPromo: Sandvox. I'm just a fan of Watson and Karelia :-)

Type: CommentsDate: 5 Apr 2008 06:55Thanks for the comment simonm.
The price of Freeway Pro was around $75, so it was not 5 times RW's price.
The themes I've liked for RW have been expensive. Overall I'm happier with Freeway Pro. Soon after their promos they announced version 5 and also charged for an upgrade. Version 5 came out last month, and they offered a discount.
And I agree with you. RW is useful for creating websites quickly.
raddle, indeed I made a comment. If it is pointless, why bother replying?
I also offered my rating of the product after using it, and I believe that I was more than fair with my ratings.
1. It's NOT about buying when an upgrade fee is due. In fact, realmacsoftware said that I was entitled to a free upgrade. Most companies offer a time frame for those free upgrades. Later they said that I was not entitled to that free upgrade. The developers may be very responsive as you mentioned. Obviously my experience has been different from yours. Both are valid, although mine is pointless. ;-)
2. It does NOT happen all the time. I can think of Rapidweaver, Softpress, and Yazsoft charging an upgrade fee soon after a sale. Years ago Macease did the same. Every developer gave me a free upgrade/update when I purchased Ten for X, except Macease.
Out of hundreds of applications and bundles that I have purchased in the last 10 years, these 4 examples are certainly not a representation of what happens all the time.
3. And it's NOT about denigrating a post "just because they don't comment the whole time" as you said. Some posts are insightful. That particular post gave glowing ratings to RW, but offered little substance. The fact that it's from a person who has not reviewed anything else, that it offers a glowing review, and insinuates that other products are inferior, is enough for me to discard that comment.
Maybe reading that "RapidWeaver 3.6 stomps all of them" is good enough for you, but not for me.
I prefer reviews like these:
http://applemacinmylife.blogspot.com/2007/08/rapidweaver-and-sandvox-tests.html
http://www.it-enquirer.com/main/ite/more/iweb_vs_sandvox/
http://www.it-enquirer.com/main/ite/more/freeway_5_pro/
End of my pointless response.

Even the upgrade is quite expensive at $89.
I like Aquafadas and their products, but this is too expensive IMO.

Type: CommentsDate: 26 Mar 2008 03:02Maybe it's a fiasco that Safari has greatly improved while OmniWeb has become stagnant?
I've used OmniWeb for years, along with FireFox and Opera. I never liked Safari, but I gave version 3.04 a chance and so far it's impressive.
Out of iCab, Opera, FireFox, Safari, and OmniWeb, OmniWeb is the one that has given me more problems. I sent numerous crash reports to Omni. Hopefully 5.7 will be a great browser once again. I'll wait for the final version.

Type: ReviewDate: 16 Mar 2008 19:03Works great for my needs.
I have not used it that much. Mainly I created a 60 MB catalog of >12,000 icons.
I just tested it to create a 3MB catalog of 40MB of 309 pictures. It took about a minute or so.
Overall I'm very happy with it. I used it when it was a $25 program and loved it back then. When the price went up I decided not to upgrade. Thanks to Microsoft I got it as part of Office 2008 for Mac Special Media Edition, and the price was cheaper than buying the expensive versions of iView. I also have a free upgrade to version 2.
I will fondly remember the original iView. It was cheap and useful. I'm glad I got it again.

Type: ReviewDate: 12 Mar 2008 11:24I've spent the last few days doing a clean install of OS X 10.5.2 as well as of many applications including Pixelmator.
So far, Pixelmator is the only application that has given me problems.
With a 24KB image it performs as expected. With a 1.4 MB image it's painfully slow and unresponsive. At one point I got a message saying that I was running out of free space on my hard drive, which is brand new and the partition in question has over 100 GB free.
Apparently there's a "memory leak in core image" but so far I have not seen any solution. As it is, Pixelmator is unusable for me if I want to work with files over 1 MB. Absurd.

Type: CommentsDate: 12 Mar 2008 04:03As another point of reference, it took Entourage 2008 about 11 seconds to launch for me, while running 10 other applications in addition to roughly 20 background processes.

Do you have problems with your Entourage database? With drive space? RAM?

Type: CommentsDate: 7 Mar 2008 02:21Indeed it's an interesting way of treating loyal customers.
I've already spent some money on OGP, in addition to a few upgrades.
I don't recall ever being disappointed by an Omni upgrade fee as I am with this one, and I have purchased most of their software as well as upgrades in the past 7 years or so.

Type: CommentsDate: 5 Mar 2008 16:23I wish there was a way to edit and/or delete comments. I was too enthusiastic when I read about upgrades starting at $39.95. Sorry about that.
I use OmniGraffle Pro 4. Upgrading to OGP 5 is $74.95.
I've been a happy customer, and don't mind buying OMNI's software and paying for the occasional upgrade, but this is too much. I'll just keep on using version 4.
![]()
Type: CommentsDate: 5 Mar 2008 16:11Upgrades start at $40. Even less for students.
I was going to write an angry comment based on their upgrade prices, and I'm glad I visited their store first.
I'm glad that OMNI listened to those of us who complained about their upgrade prices when version 5 was still in beta.
BIG THANKS!!!

Type: CommentsDate: 5 Mar 2008 16:07Interesting that you mention Microsoft.
I don't recall paying for a single upgrade of Office 2004. When Office 2008 was not yet released, Microsoft made it available for around $30-$40 one day. Very nice!
I missed that offer, and got Office 2008 for Mac
Special Media Edition for around $130.
Not bad for upgrading 4 programs, getting added features, and getting a "new" program called Expression Media. :-)

Type: CommentsDate: 4 Mar 2008 07:59Thanks for the thorough review.
PTH Pasteboard is also unobtrusive. I currently use multiple Pasteboards with hundreds of clippings. Everything is hidden until I need to use it. And it can remain hidden even while I'm using it.
If iClip support is working really hard, why have there been no updates to the software in over one year?
That user gave up on iClip. So did I. By the way, I never received a single response to my support request over a year ago, but that's another story.
If you go further back on the reviews here and elsewhere you'll read about other disappointed users.
There were no themes for iClip 3. It simply had a cleaner, clearer interface. It would have been great to have a choice of themes since many iClip 3 users hated the new interface. I stopped using iClip given the new interface and the total lack of support.
I own iClip, ShadowClipboard, PTH Pasteboard, and had CopyPaste years ago for OS 9.
On Leopard iClipboard is not impressive in any way, although it also offers the ability to edit clippings. Hopefully it will improve, as it is a version 1 program.
ShadowClipboard is about as old as iClip, and more recent than CopyPaste, although CP has more recent beta versions. I just launched ShadowClipboard on my system and it seems to work fine (OS X 10.4.11)
PTH Pasteboard is not keyboard-driven. It does not allow users to edit clippings as far as I know, but even the free version has many great features, such as having multiple pasteboards, configuring the number of items, determining the maximum item size, modifying the pasteboard appearance, pasting behavior, using Hot Keys, etc.
Regarding registration, and to quote the PTH website: "PTHPasteboard 4 is and has always been FREE ."
The $25 price for PTHPasteboard PRO includes additional features such as filters -which provide some of the functions that you mentioned for CopyPaste- ignoring applications, and syncing.
Not to mention continuous improvement and superb support.
It's great that iClip works for you. Sometimes it's hard to find the right tool, and it's great that iClip is the one for you. For me it turned into another application with more flash than substance and questionable customer support. And did I mention the price increase?
To conclude I will say that I agree with you in that it is a good idea to have a more balanced perspective regarding iClip. Most of the glowing reviews are related to iClip 3. It was a great application.
Notice that Inventive's website shows 5-star ratings for iClip from MacUpdate and VersionTracker. The comments and ratings for version 4 tell a different story.

Type: CommentsDate: 28 Feb 2008 14:30Thanks.
I don't think that version 4 is obsolete, but I'm certainly very disappointed with Softpress.

Type: ReviewDate: 18 Feb 2008 18:20I don't like rating beta versions, but given the previous review I'll add my rating.
I've used this software for years. Right now I'm using 3.4.4 which is from late 2005. Beta versions for URL manager Pro 3.5 have been around at least since May of 2006 (3.5b2).
Version 3.5 is a FREE UPGRADE for URL Manager Pro 3.x users, btw.
3.4.4 works fine for my needs, along with WebConfidential.
I do have other similar programs (e.g., Bookdog, 1Password) but URL Manger Pro and WebConfidential have never let me down.
3.5b10 was released on Feb 7, 2008. The previous beta version is from January 10, 2008. The three years between this beta and the previous beta look more like one month to me.
On the rare occasion when I have needed support, it was as simple as emailing Alco.
I have other programs that get updated very frequently, sometimes on a monthly or weekly basis.
I'm actually glad that URL MP has worked as expected since I purchased it, and I have not needed any update to make it work for me. And again, if I needed something or had an issue with the software, the solution is as easy as contacting Alco.
The previous 2-star rating and the weak argument presented should not prevent users from giving this a try. It's actually pretty good software.

You cannot simply trash the Speed Download folder to un-install it.
You must use the included un-installer.
Quit all browsers and any running copy of Speed Download.
Run the SD Uninstaller (located in your Speed Download folder).

Type: CommentsDate: 13 Feb 2008 04:43Thanks for the reply Gordon.
I do have Drive Genius, Data Rescue II, and Data Backup 3. Additionally I purchased another copy of Drive Genius and Data Rescue II for my cousin a couple of months ago, and recommended your software to his Mac tech and to many other Mac users.
So indeed I have supported your company in my own small way, and feel disappointed with this upgrade not only in terms of its high price but also in terms of the added features. Leopard compatibility is irrelevant for me, and the new interface is as ugly as others with a black or dark background. People will look back at the plethora of programs with such colors and say "What were they thinking?" :-)
(KeyCue actually got the dark interface right.)
So I'll pass on this one. If Drive Genius 1.5 becomes insufficient for my needs then I'll see whether an upgrade to version 2 makes sense, or for the same amount I could go with a Micromat upgrade, which is certainly not my first choice.
Thanks for the tip on phone support. Email support was mediocre at best last time I needed it, which was surprising since it used to be pretty good.

Type: CommentsDate: 12 Feb 2008 18:15A few questions for Ian (SOFTPRESS SYSTEMS).
Is the upgrade from Freeway 4 Pro to Freeway 5 Pro $99? Am I reading this correctly? And this is the same upgrade price for 3.5 users?
http://www.softpress.com/store/pricelist.php
I just want to understand this upgrade policy. Maybe it will be better for me to use 4 Pro which I recently purchased, and wait for an eventual version 6 or 7 release. And then decide whether to stay with Freeway or look elsewhere.
If I'm understanding this correctly, then for me it was a mistake to purchase Freeway 4 Pro, and maybe it was a bigger mistake to recommend it so much.
Of course, at the time of my purchase there was not even a hint that version 5 was coming out.
So, am I understanding this upgrade correctly? Is this the way "Softpress does takes care of its users"?
Thanks in advance for your reply.

Type: CommentsDate: 7 Feb 2008 23:53I agree with the comments regarding OmniGraffle's upgrade. I've upgraded many times, and now I'm staying with version 4.
As much as I like Omni and their products this is just too much. In addition to OG Pro, I also own OOP, OW, OP, and OF. With this type of expensive upgrades I'm feeling less appreciated as a customer.
Some comments in their blog regarding the upgrade price have remained unanswered. As I said, I'll stay with version 4.

Type: ReviewDate: 19 Jan 2008 17:07My experience is different from that of the previous reviewers. I have not had any problems with the software, the registration method, or with recording.
I'm a fan of amp/effect emulation, and have used both analog and digital emulators.
Sound-wise it is really good, although these are not the best emulations I've heard. I'm definitely not selling my amps.
On a negative note, I was a bit surprised by the jump from 2.3 to 3.0, and the respective upgrade price. This is not the same experience I had with Battery, B4, and Pro-53, for which I received numerous updates and even upgrades free of charge.
I have not used Waves GTR, but maybe I'll check that one instead of upgrading.
By the way, this sort of technology has been around for maybe a decade. The first emulator of this type that I used was Amp Farm. Other digital emulation alternatives include Roland's VG equipment and H&K zenTera amps. The latter are the best I've ever heard.
I highly recommend Orren Merton's "Guitar Rig 2 Power!: The Comprehensive Guide"

Type: CommentsDate: 14 Jan 2008 18:07I agree with GRYPHONENT.

Type: CommentsDate: 5 Jan 2008 16:49I agree that it lacks features that are needed for a GTD system.
On the other hand, it is a very promising beta. Features will be added before the final release. There's a list of future improvements in their wiki page. I'll keep an eye on this one.
I don't mind the tags.
And I don't agree that OmniFocus is the Holy Grail of GTD apps. I've used the beta for a while now, and it has certainly improved rapidly. For me the only app I've used that truly helps me to implement a GTD methodology is Thinking-Rock. If Thinking Rock did not exist I would probably use OmniFocus, which is also a beta at the moment. OF can be a bit unintuitive, and currently there's no manual and the Help is incomplete.
I'm not going to rate Things since it's a beta, but in its current state it's definitely not worthy of 5-stars and certainly lacks the features to make it a good GTD implementation.

Type: ReviewDate: 31 Dec 2007 05:42Yes, Quicksilver can work for PasteBoards. So can You Control (obviously ;) ), Butler, and many other programs.
But PTH Pasteboard has been more powerful, stable, and easy to use in my experience.
For example, I have multiple pasteboards, some frequently used text has assigned Hot Keys, and I can search quickly through hundreds of clippings in my main pasteboard. And all of this free of charge. For those who require filters and synching there's the Pro version.
I have licences for iClip and ShadowClipboard, and PTH Pasteboard is the one I have used everyday for about a year.

Type: ReviewDate: 11 Dec 2007 22:22I’ve been trying to justify purchasing the current MU Bundle, which includes RapidWeaver.
Oddly enough, the fact that RapidWeaver is included was enough for me not to make my purchase. About a month after I purchased RapidWeaver they were already asking for an upgrade fee.
I’m sure my point of view will not be very popular, but even though the MU Bundle represents substantial savings, out of principle I‘m not buying it.
By the way, I don’t think that my ratings are affected by my disappointment with RapidWeaver. Sure, it’s easier to read that RapidWeaver “stomps” other applications -as GREGG_W/_3GS wrote- but that means absolutely nothing, especially coming from someone who has not posted any other reviews.
I ended up purchasing Freeway 4 Pro with a significant discount thanks to the GiveGoodFood2YourMac offer and I believe it’s a far superior program. According to Macworld it is worthy of 4.5 mice, for those who like their reviews :-)
![]()
Type: CommentsDate: 24 Nov 2007 02:18Just a comment since a rating may be misleading. For anyone interested in trying OmniFocus keep in mind that this is PRE-RELEASE software. Reports will enable the Omni people to improve the software.
So far it has contained some bugs and unexpected behavior, so consider that before working with critical data or tasks.
I do prefer it to the programs the first reviewer mentioned, but I never liked those programs as a GTD implementation. For me Thinking Rock has set the standard, and I have used it as my GTD software.
I have also tried the alpha versions of OmiFocus for months now, and look forward to the release version. I made my purchase as soon as it became available.

Type: ReviewDate: 29 Oct 2007 02:27As a comment to the previous reviewer, Time Machine is NOT a replacement for this type of software.
Regarding Data Backup 3.0.3, when it works it is great. It’s not complicated and does what it’s supposed to do. In the past I cloned one drive and synchronized another.
Unfortunately, there are many bugs while creating and saving -or trying to save- new sets. For example, sometimes after I select the source and destination drives, the summary at the top indicates “
”. Other times, after I select a destination drive, a different drive is selected by Data Backup. This is absurd.
Finally, when everything seems to work out fine and I decide to save the set, Data Backup quits. It’s unusable.
I have recommended Drive Genius and Data Rescue II, but this one is pretty bad. Unfortunately the last time I contacted Prosoft I just received the following two messages:
“Your comments have been forwarded to a Sales Agent...”
“Your question has been forwarded to a Customer Support Specialist...“
I never got a response addressing my actual problem. I may email them regarding this issue, but meanwhile I’m giving Synk another try.

Type: ReviewDate: 2 May 2007 06:24My initial comments:
At $60, this is way overpriced. Thanks to the MacUpdate promo I paid $30, which is the same price as Bodyfitdb. That’s more reasonable, however the implementation is really bad. So far, I have encountered the following:
1. When selecting a different interface, most of the interface disappeared after relaunching the software. Only when positioning the mouse at different places of a gray square was I able to see some buttons, which went away as I moved the mouse.
2. The interface is very unintuitive. I don’t mind that it’s not Mac-like at all. I use and love many programs that have questionable GUIs (e.g., Sp@mX, ThinkingRock, A&ETP, etc.), but this one’s ridiculous.
3. There’s no help, manual, or screencasts. There’s an area of Info/Help, but there’s no Help at all.
4. Launching the program is painfully slow.
5. Calculations are full of errors. The graphs apparently don’t consider custom foods, even though the right calculations are above them in the ‘text’ section.
6. Regardless of the date I choose for entering data, the program takes me to today’s date.
It’s a shame since this could be very useful. They do offer a trial for 15 launches. I was unable to test it thoroughly prior to making my purchase since the promo was going to expire. I would recommend that people interested in this software take advantage of the 15 launches. Hopefully the program will improve.

Type: CommentsDate: 21 Mar 2007 19:28I have to disagree with the previous review based on my experience.
Other developers understand GTD quite well. In fact, this knowledge is more evident in other applications such as ThinkingRock which incorporates ‘Delegate‘ as well as the related ‘Waiting For‘ into the application.
I don’t need my GTD app to be Cocoa. I need it to be cross-platform (Mac and PC). YMMV.
Regarding the User Interface, I was unable to view multiple actions from different projects at the same time.
Not to mention the strange text I got when entering a new action in the Context window. It doesn’t make much sense to me to be able to enter actions within the Context window, but it is available as an option, so I tried it.
As I add a New Action, the Project selected is actually an action from a previous project, and I have the option to select “{ archived=0; completed=0,...webid=0;}” as a context. I did not criticize the app too harshly in my previous review, and this is clearly a bug. This is to be expected since this is a pre version 1 release.
I do hope that it becomes an amazing application, but to call it “the most comprehensive GTD for OS X available” and give it a 5-star rating is misleading.
I’m actually abstaining from rating the application since it is more of an early beta than a polished program.
By the way, since I’m not going to register just to reply to your blog:
-Frictionless is a self-contained version of Kinkless.
-Although you mentioned that “Nobody actually needs to search for a specific action in GTD,” a search function within a GTD application can be extremely useful. Not only for pending actions, but also for reference regarding past actions.

Type: ReviewDate: 21 Mar 2007 18:46Since I’m surprised at the recent reviews I have read for other GTD applications, I thought it would be useful to add a review for Thinking Rock.
Out of all the applications I have tried, Thinking Rock is one of the few that follows David Allen’s GTD methodology in detail.
The developer is very responsive, bugs have been fixed and requests have been incorporated into the application. Right now Thinking Rock is quite impressive for a version 1 software, especially given that it is available for free. I would encourage people who find the application useful to donate and show their support.
For comparison, here are some of the applications I have tried:
1. Kinkless GTD. Great and free, but requires OmniOutliner Pro. For me Thinking Rock has been easier to use on a daily basis. Perhaps OmniFocus will eventually be a great GTD program, but for now I prefer Thinking Rock.
2. Midnight Inbox. Looks beautiful, but it lacked a lot of functionality for my use.
3. iGTD. It’s very rapidly evolving, but at the moment still lacks some GTD features (e.g., Waiting For, Delegated, Reports, etc.)
4. Actiontastic. Again, looks interesting but lacks functionality (e.g, Delegated, Waiting For, viewing multiple projects at once, etc.)
These 4 programs come to mind since they are recent, but I have used others and always return to Thinking Rock. My advice is to download them, use them, and compare them. Each person has different tastes and preferences. My choice is Thinking Rock since it allows me to follow the GTD methodology, enables me to print a variety of reports (e.g., by context, by person, by project, etc.), allows me not only to view but also to sort multiple items using different criteria (e.g., action, project, context, etc.), has a very useful pop-up help, works on Windows and Mac (this was particularly important since I had to move back and forth between a PC and my Mac for some projects), has a very detailed Help file, and is very easy to use. After a couple of times of using it I was getting things done with the help of the application, and I TRUSTED the application. This is essential for GTD, and I can’t say the same thing about alternative programs.

Type: CommentsDate: 17 Mar 2007 16:42It’s great to have another software alternative for incorporating GTD. I have nothing but praise for the author. He is very responsive and is providing this useful application for Mac users, and not charging a dime. I think that eventually people will be able to donate.
Regarding the software itself, it’s NOT a good GTD implementation IMO, and here’s why:
1. The interface is not ‘fool-proof’
It allows many mistakes. For example, I placed 2 tasks in my Inbox. Both are emails I need to write. I have to select my @Email context, but pressing the Up or Down Arrow processes and closes the task without warning and without allowing me to enter any other information, such as Priority (which by the way I seldom use).
While this was only a brief test, I’m not comfortable with using the program when I’m dealing with dozens of tasks, dozens of contexts, and a handful of projects. A slip of the finger and it’s time to go and look for the task.
Not to mention that accidentally hitting ‘Delete’ will remove the item without any confirmation.
2. Entering information is time consuming. I would prefer a drop-down list with my contexts and projects. Instead, I have to navigate through all my projects and contexts in order to choose the appropriate one. Again, this is not a big deal with just a few projects and contexts, but for me it’s very inconvenient.
3. No option regarding Delegated items.
4. No option for ‘Waiting For’ items
5. No reporting options. Let’s say that I want to see all the tasks I delegated to Joe Schmoe, related to project X. Or that I want a printout of all the items I have pending with my boss.
I downloaded the first version of this program and before I got to try it 3 new versions had come out. I think that labeling the software as beta or release candidate would be a better option. In GTD it is imperative that you have a system you can trust. This is NOT such a system. At least not yet.
I waited until now to try 1.1.3 and based on the previous review I expected to be impressed. I’m not. Perhaps this will eventually be a great application, and I wish the author all the luck in the world. I’ll keep on using ThinkingRock, which is what I always do after trying GTD software.
That one has been the only one I’ve used that truly follows Allen’s approach and enables me to actually Get Things Done.

•eXpertScreenwriter
•eXpertConsultant
•eXpertNaming
•eXpertSolutions
•eXpertNegotiator
•eXpertExpander

The program itself seems to be $149, on sale for $99, and includes one module.
Looks interesting, but after looking at the CEO price I abstained from downloading it. I‘ll stick to a combination of Devon Agent, Devon Think Pro, NovaMind, Curio, etc.
I looked at their ‘IntroToThoughtOffice’ pdf document, and some of the links are not working. Looks like a great idea, but for me it’s too expensive. Even Tinderbox is cheaper than this one!

Type: CommentsDate: 16 Mar 2007 16:52Good beta version. I will keep my eye on this one.
Unlike the previous reviewer mentioned, I don’t find it to be better than Thinking Rock or other GTD programs I’ve used, but it certainly looks promising.
It has a clean interface, and is easy to use.
I would like:
Pop-up help when placing the cursor over an item
Preferences (?)
The ability to view multiple projects at once
Support for delegating actions
Support for ‘Waiting for’ items
Etc.
For me, Thinking Rock is by far a superior application. For starters, it’s one of the few applications that actually follows David Allen’s GTD methodology. In addition, it allows me to view my actions in different ways, sort it using a variety of criteria, view various projects simultaneously, categorize Projects by color, it works on a Mac and a PC, etc.
Again, this is a good beta version. I got interested in it after reading that it was fully compatible with GTD, better than Thinking Rock, and so on.
After trying it briefly, for me it is certainly not better than Thinking Rock, and does not seem to incorporate the whole GTD methodology.
It may be better than many other GTD applications, but that’s because some of them are really poor programs. Hopefully this one will evolve into something great. After all, it’s still a beta.

I’m using Fetch and Yummy FTP now.
I don’t know how they compare in terms of features, since I don’t use these type of programs on a regular basis anymore.
For my needs, the above-mentioned programs are sufficient. Keep in mind that for new users $30 is certainly a good deal for Interarchy.

Type: CommentsDate: 22 Feb 2007 00:11I used to love this program. Started using it when it was called Anarchie, IIRC.
When the price jumped from $40 to $60 and the upgrade price increased as well, I switched to a different program.
For me, this deal is the same as the upgrade price and it is not appealing.
For new users, $30 is a VERY attractive price for this program. Definitely worth considering.

I purchased it back in August 2006 when other programs failed to recover one of my hard drives. I was impressed with the results. Even though I was unable to recover an exact duplicate of my drive, I was able to recover my information.
By the way, I also got my copy from OWC. I had purchased Drive Genius from them, so when I needed Data Rescue that’s one of the first places I considered.

Weren’t you going to report me about a week ago?
Now, instead of wasting my time, MacUpdate’s time, and the time of anyone interested in reading about this program, could you actually post anything concrete and specific about the program’s bugs? Was my request such a difficult task?
Until that happens I won’t bother replying to you again.

Type: CommentsDate: 2 Feb 2007 18:07I also prefer the previous version.
What was John thinking when he decided to offer this interface?
I wonder if many people will buy iClip now that it’s more expensive and is so grotesque.
Trying to use the previous version now results in a warning message and odd behavior in my system.
Time to move to something else. Hopefully John is aware that many users are disliking iClip’s looks so much, and will offer the previous interface as well.
It’s a shame, since it’s a good program. Such a long wait for a disappointment!

Please feel free to report this to MacUpdate. I’m available to answer any questions they may have regarding my post.
I’ve read your posts here, as well as on the developer’s website. I merely asked a very simple question based on your comments in both places. If you can’t answer my question that is fine, but why insist on making such absurd accusations?
Without posting any facts, and after reading your posts both here and at the developer’s forum as I mentioned earlier, it’s hard to take you seriously.
I don’t understand how asking you a question is considered harassment. I guess there are things in this world that I will never understand. You are one of them ;-)

Type: CommentsDate: 29 Jan 2007 13:45I agree on the price. I tried it when it was a $40 application. It certainly has evolved, but it’s not worth it $190 to me. Not even $106.

Type: ReviewDate: 2 Jan 2007 15:12Are people these days satisfied with such mediocrity?
I’ve tried to use AppZapper a few times, and each time its performance is flawed.
1. It has identified for deletion applications that are unrelated to the application I want to delete.
2. It has only partially identified the files associated with the application I want to delete.
3. The Genie tells me its been 5 years and 6 years since I used two applications when the truth is that I have used them within the past 6-12 months. An application I used today -and I use it daily- is shown as being used one week ago. AppZapper also indicates I have not used a program in 10 years. I did not even have my G5 ten years ago!
Although I’m a registered user, I prefer to use Tinker Tool System which provides more information when one wants to uninstall an application, or FileBuddy which identifies associated files more thoroughly than AppZapper. Even doing a Spotlight search would be better than using AppZapper.

Type: ReviewDate: 31 Dec 2006 18:25The More Information link goes to the version 5 updater, and not version 6.
Years ago I used version 3 and only recently updated to version 6 thanks to version 5 being on sale at the Discovery store, and an upgrade offer to version 6 from Starry Night. Otherwise it would have been too expensive for me.
Although the price can be high, I think it’s really the best software of its class out there. Very thorough and intuitive.

Type: ReviewDate: 29 Dec 2006 18:23I’ve been using DayLite for years. I did have some issues with the earlier betas, but they were betas. As a DayLite user I provided feedback to the MarketCircle people, and their program has vastly improved.
I find it hard to believe that CAUSTICT has even tried the software. It does have a learning curve, but there’s a manual, a forum, support, FAQ’s, and videos. Most people will not need all of this resources to create a Task or a Note, which are two features that seem to be giving a problem to CAUSTICT. It takes just a few seconds to add tasks or notes, by the way.
I’ve used other alternatives, and for years used Now Up to Date and Contact. I’m very happy to be using DayLite now. I will be happier if they would include Billings as well, once it’s out of beta, for free :-) I would rate it a 5 if it included email integration and Billings. For the price, I have to rate it a 4 in terms of features and value. Ease of use also gets a 4. It’s easy, but it pays to read the manual and watch some videos.
There are other reviews on the web that go into more detail.

Type: CommentsDate: 13 Dec 2006 22:07Without doing a thorough comparison since I don’t have the time, I briefly tried this new version and like it better than the beta. Is it the best as stated below? That will depend on your particular needs.
After trying to import 2 files I had, Merlin 2 would not import one and OmniPlan would not import the other.
I then downloaded 2 Microsoft Project files from the web, and imported them using FastTrack Schedule 9, Merlin 2, and OmniPlan.
All programs imported the files quickly and FastTrack was always the fastest. Times were approximately 8 seconds for Merlin and OmniPlan, and 3 or 4 seconds for FastTrack.
FastTrack also opened a dialog box in case the user wanted more information regarding the import process.
Visually the only display I did not like was OmniPlan‘s. This was a surprise since I’m a huge fan of OMNI and have Graffle Pro, Outliner Pro, and Web.
OmniPlan Indicated certain violations after each import. A suggested solution was to “change the scheduling for this task to As Early As Possible” Looking at the ‘problematic’ tasks in the other programs yielded no warning messages, and their inspectors showed that they already had the attributes set for “As soon as possible.”
Since demos are available for these programs I would suggest the people try them for themselves. Another nice alternative that I didn’t use here is iTaskX, which also has a beautiful, intuitive interface and is the cheapest of the bunch at $86 approximately.
For simple projects OmniPlan may be more than sufficient. For more complex projects I would probably choose an alternative product. OmniPlanStill apparently has some limitations, such as sharing/managing multiple resources across various projects simultaneously. I did not test this, but some information may be found at the OMNI forums.
I hope this helps.

Type: CommentsDate: 13 Dec 2006 17:53I’m not a projects leader, but this type of software already exists for the Mac in different versions and price ranges.
I’ve used iTaskX, FastTrack Schedule, Merlin, and OmniPlan while in beta.
Although I’m a huge fan of OMNI and their products, OmniPlan has been my least favorite software of its kind. (Disclaimer: I have not tried version 1, but the previous beta).
I do find it odd that 5-star reviews have appeared both here and at VersionTracker, and the reviews come from first-time posters.
I will give this version a try out of curiosity, although I’m very happy that I purchased Merlin 2.

Oliver, there are a few GTD applications for the Mac. Are you using Kinkless with OMNI Outliner? It seems that it will evolve into OMNIFocus.
I can't remember all the GTD programs I've tried, but I'm currently using ThinkingRock with great results.
I'll be happy to try Inbox again once it has matured. I do love the interface, but using it has not been a pleasant experience for me. As always, YMMV.

I've used DW for many years, and recommend it to everyone who owns a Mac. The meager version 3 updates and now a paid upgrade leave me with no desire to purchase DW 4.
