ERIC DURBROW  And the Acid 3 Test is 72 out of 100. Chrome and Safari are 100 out of 100. Firefox 3.6 beta is 91/100. So why use it?

JCRAIG  Acid 3 is not a "good browser test", it's simply a compatibility test for different web technologies and "standards", many of which aren't even in use in the real world. The best "good browser test" should be what works best for you, does it have the features that fill your needs, does it properly render the web pages you visit, does it fit with your work-flow, is it visually pleasing (if those things are important to you, as they seem to be for many Mac users). Try it for yourself and make your own decision, don't base it on the results of some test that you probably don't even understand.

ERIC DURBROW  Using SunSpider JavaScript benchmark, I get 600-700 ms for Safari, WebKit, and Chrome. For Camino I get 3000 ms. What am I missing here? I would like to like this browser but 3000 ms for running Java Script?

ERIC DURBROW  Here is a tip: This update will disable your Mail plug ins such as GrowlMail. However, Herald 1.1 seems to work and may serve as a GrowlMail replacement. Herald can be downloaded from this site and is donation-ware.

Google Chrome

ERIC DURBROW  Can anyone show that Chrome (or Chromium) is any faster than the latest Webkit nightly? In SunSpider tests I get about 500 for Webkit but 600 for chrome. Perhaps this is a trivial difference. Or perhaps SunSpider is "biased" against Chrome. Also, I am still confused by the Chrome v. Chromium versions. Thanks for any feedback. P.S. Chrome has yet to crash on me.

ERIC DURBROW  Still unable to upload large notebooks to MobileMe or save large notebooks as html/website. Anyone else successfully using this app to update and upload large notebooks? Perhaps AquaMind NoteTaker is better for this....

ERIC DURBROW  Does this version allow us dissatisfied Parallels users to abandon ship and IMPORT our Windows/Parallel setup seamlessly to VMFusion 3.0. Would some kind soul report how easy it is to transfer from Parallel to VMFusion? Thanks!

SEANC  I switched from Parallels to Fusion 2.x several months ago. Fusion imported my Parallels virtual machine (XP) effortlessly and with no errors or hiccups. A few Parallels services and drivers were left in XP, but these were simple enough to remove and delete if you want.

ERIC DURBROW  Parallels 4 seems to have keyboard problems on my machine. That is it seems to get confused with the Command key-Control key translation. I've given up on tech support (along with any hope for a rebate). I suggest people use VirtualBox (free) or VMWare Fusion (cheaper).

ERIC DURBROW  I would advise people not to upgrade at the moment. At least 2 errors even when Genius is turned off

1. iPod tracks no longer play when you access them through iTunes

2. Crashes when downloading podcasts.

ERIC DURBROW  XMIND is a MUCH more powerful and free alternative. The only reason I can think to use this elegant application is if you need Cocoa or Cocoa-based Services.

MARKUSM  I won't argue that XMind offers much more features than MindNode, but adding every possible feature to the application was not my design goal. I wanted to create a nativ and easy to use application that allows to quickly create mind maps and I think for this use the application works great.

ERIC DURBROW  Unlike others, I have had no problems with XMIND and I am amazed that it is free. It by far better than Freemind and the free version of MindNode. It easily rivals ConceptMind, NovaMind, and others paid version except that it is more elegant. I strongly recommend it before pay money for application.

Can someone tell me why we need to pay for a third party utility? Thanks.

SPICELMF  http://blog.busymac.com/blog/2008/12/google-caldav-versus-busysync.html

BusySync put up that comparison. I actually don't use BusySync yet but I plan to download the demo now. I was very hyped up about Google's iCal support, then I realized it only pulls your gCal down to iCal. Personally, I use iCal and would like those calendars to be pushed up to gCal. I'd basically have to delete and recreate all my calendars for this to work.

Not to mention for some reason all the calendars are broken up under their each "folder". For example my appointments calendar is under Google:Appointments.. why? Call me OCD but I find it annoying.

ERIC DURBROW  I strongly agree with this previous posts. Changes have been highly incremental since Version 2. No fullscreen, no advanced html capabilities, no abilities to add footnotes or endnotes to writing, no outline cloning. Despite the Version 3 label, it seems to be stagnating like is competitor AquaMinds NoteTaker.
