Daylite Productivity Suite | Apr 29 2008 |
I disagree with you. I'm a small biz owner (just myself) as well. I tried Contactizer several times and was almost ready to buy it when 10.5.2 came out. Then it quit working with some weird error that their devs couldn't even figure out. Their response was finally to reformat the drive and see if that works. There were several more cases of the same error in the forums. Reformat my drive to try software? Don't get me wrong. Contactizer is a good product that competes well. That's when I tried Daylite and after about 30 days of using it, I purchased it and haven't looked back. It does exactly what I want it to do and more. I even use the custom form feature to add to the product to track my company software purchases and license numbers which were haphazardly stored in email flagged by Mailtags. Now I keep what I can stored in Daylite so when backing up, it's in one DB. A downside to Contactizer is that it will not sync custom recurring calendar events which in hindsight, I'm glad I purchased Daylite instead because that is a REAL plus. Another great feature of Daylite is their plugin architecture. They have plugins for Billings and another accounting system along with other misc. programs. While Contactizer is a solid product, Daylite has been more flexible for my needs. Evaluate both products (you need at least 30 days with both products to understand how they flow) then decide. If iCal sync for custom recurring events and syncing with other apps is reuqired, then Daylite may be what you need. (Version 3.7.3)

ERIC CALDWELL I purchased this product and didn't receive the email registration instructions and key. Emailed the author and have yet to hear back. Just be warned, the financial transaction happens quick but you don't get the product as quickly. (Version 1.9.4)

WEB-JIVE Since I posted this last, the developer worked with the company Emetrix to clear up the extra charge on my credit card. They issued the reg code a couple of days later. Just like anything else involving software, errors happen. Great product which was worth the investment. (Version 1.9.6)

The Missing Sync for Windows Mobile | Apr 4 2007 |
ERIC CALDWELL I purchased this product because ALLTEL is now offering a Motorola Q. If I had know that support was non-existent, I probably would have stuck with my Razr. After initially purchasing my Moto Q I was happy with the software until I tried to get support from them. Wow, talk about terrible support! I used the support request form from the MSpace web site and it took 4 days to get a response. The question was regarding the Mount feature not working. Their answer was to do it another way and that response was cryptic at best leaving me further confused. So, I'm stuck with a product that partially works. I responded back and 2 days later, no response! My advice, don't purchase the product until the company decides that customer support is just as important as sales! I run my own web design and hosting business. If I supported my customers this way, I would be out of business. MarkSpace, you listening? (Version 3.0.1)

DAVID BEAMAN Agreed. maybe someone would want to use it because the logo looks cool. But still if you want a quick search tool for the web, this could be used. (Version 1.0.0.155)

DAIYI Spotlight is pretty good but still lacking in some areas. Lately I've added HoudahSpot to the arsenal, which allows for more search parameters and file previews. Perhaps Leopard will include these features, however. (Version 1.0.0.155)

MAMP Pro | Mar 1 2007 |
ERIC CALDWELL I have been running MAMP for a while and editing config files, hosts files, etc. since I develop web sites locally. This inexpensive tool made that SO much easier. Another benefit is that MAMP Pro actually moves your DB's to /Libarary/xxx making upgarding the MAMP core files (Apache, PHP, etc.) a breeze! If you put a value on your time, then this product is worth the money. MAMP Pro 1.1 and MAMP 1.5b1 work nicely together. The nice thing about MAMP 1.5b1 is that it now includes the Intel ZEND Optimizer which I had to code in the php.ini by hand before. No more... (Version 1.1)

iLike Sidebar | Feb 19 2007 |
ERIC CALDWELL I have been using iLike now for 3-4 months and it is a truly great addition to iTunes. The developer of the Mac version is the owner/developer at Cocoatech (Pathfinder) and IMHO, the software is well written. iLike helps non-labled artists get some main-stream exposure that they would not normally get. The iLike website is headed in the similar direction of sites like kornerstoeent.com. Another up and coming site for non-labled artists. (Version 0.0.0.74)

ERIC CALDWELL I considered buying this app but, just like Firefox (since it is based on that platform) is SLOW to load on my MBP 17. To bad becuase this has some nice features. I'll stick to BBEdit until this is corrected. (Version 4.0.1)

ERIC CALDWELL I have to admit that now the developer has moved to a fee model for it, I'm no longer interested. It is also still a beta. Why pay for a beta. The software looks great, very Mac like but it's a slow downloader. Bittyrant or Azureus are easily twice as fast and both are free. Not very Mac like but fast and free. If I want a fast Mac like program, Transmission is free and fast! Bitrocket isn't bad either and those are just a few of the good free ones out there. My advice to the developer is drop it below $10 and you will have a better chance at getting a larger audience. Just MHO. (Version 1.0b2v26)

SRS iWOW Premium | Dec 30 2006 |
ERIC CALDWELL While there are some not so positive posts here, the product does an outstanding job! I installed the demo and was so impressed with how much better my music sounded, I immediately purchased it. Worth the money! The one thing I don't like is that it isn't a background application like some other iTunes plugins. You can't minimize it either. My Klipsch and iTunes never sounded so good. (Version 1.1.1)

ERIC CALDWELL This product falls way short of what SafariBlock offers now and PithHelmet (which doesn't want to work properly these days) which has white listing for sites you do want to see ads for. Plus both are free. A drop in price with the abilities these two have and I might buy. (Version 1.7)

ERIC CALDWELL Unlike the reviewer below, I used this nice (free) utility to backup my iTunes directory and it did it without a hitch. This program allows you to create backup sets with source and target directories and schedule them if you want for regularity. About the only things I would add to this nice little utility is the ability to do a dry run (test a backup before actually doing it) and FTP connectivity. I could use this to backup several web sites if it had FTP. Great job and thanks for the free app!!!! (Version 2.0b12)

ERIC CALDWELL I have been using this product in evaluation mode and here are my thoughts. Pros: The built in preview tabs are nice but I can do that now with SafariStand. An option to use either traditional or preview tabs would be a bigger plus requiring one less plugin to deal with. The bookmarking abilities are superior to Safari's especially when I can open them in a new window. Site preferences are very nice! I use that feature frequently. Opera has had it for a while but IMHO, Opera doesn't feel like a Mac application and will probably never be more than a compatibility check-off for sites I develop. The form filler is superior to Safari's. One of those things you didn't know you were missing until someone builds a better mouse trap. The built in cookie editor is very useful and nice with easy accessibility. If OW would support Simbl plugins, it would give us better access to products like SafariSource, WebDevAdditions and more. Products that make my life way easier for developing sites and daily surfing pleasure (I know.. users couldn't give a hoot about that but there are some nice user plugins out there). Nice interface but it needs to better support products like Shapeshifter and have a better selection of toolbar icons. Fruity colors for toolbar icons are passe and don't contribute to better usability IMHO, could be wrong. Needs a better way to read RSS feeds. Safari's is minimal but it works for me and allows me do to what RSS was designed to do, scan headlines and determine what I want to read. From what I can tell, OW really doesn't have what you would consider an RSS reader. The way OW presents the fees is a drop-down only provides me quick access to the article title. Give me a single button to click that presents a page of updated sites that I can click and scan headlines. Way better ad blocking capability or add support for the products out there! One of my pet peeves. The reason I keep falling back Safari is that SafariBlock allows me to easily block Flash based banner ads!! They drive me nutz! My A.D.D. (medical term) is bad enough as is. One interim solution would be a site preference that allows me to block Flash for certain sites. If I had to choose functionality order it would be better RSS usability, better ad blocking, support for plugins. If the first two were met, I would probably bite the bullet and purchase.

ERIC CALDWELL So far, this editor shows promise but, TextWrangler has more functionality (e.g. search and multi-file search and file comparison) than ArEdit currently. I hope the minimally add these features. Without them, this may be just another editor in the pack. Not bad for a beta product. (Version 1.0pr1)

ERIC CALDWELL This is a great product and I own it. One word of advice. If Apple offers an update that changes the version of Safari, don't install the update unless SAFT has been updated to match. Once you get saft, you get hooked and when you have to wait a few days to get an update. (Version 8.2.0)
