EDDDEDUCK  The game ran under Rossetta (some of our other titles did not) so this was slightly lower on the patch list. It takes a massive effort and many hours of work (more than a usual patch but not as much as a complete port) to update to Universal as you need to rebuild the entire program for Intel CPU's and also change to having to use XCode from the previous PPC development environments like Codewarrior.

EDDDEDUCK  This is just a response to the comments made in this review of Chessmaster 9000.

1.) The 1.0.2 patch solved all of the major reported issues we had with the game, we sold thousands of copies of Chessmaster and on the whole we have had a lot more good comments than bad since we released 1.0.2. After this we even have updated (again) with a 1.1.2 universal version of the game. This is not to say that their are not issues just that a lot of people might not suffer like you did.

The original 1.0 release had a patch released quickly (1.0.1) to fix some reported problems (and to add French support), the second 1.0.2 patch was released to support 10.4 which had new libraries that needed to be supported.

2.) Chessmaster 9000 has been out for a while now, it was released a long time before Intel Mac even existed. The game ran under rosetta on Intel Macs (although a little slow in parts) meaning you could still play without a UA patch. The Universal update was provided free of charge as an update to all users of the game so we can continue support of this title. Updating to Intel native takes a lot of work and is a lot more effort than a standard patch.

We pride ourselves on supporting older products, the fact we support and patch games that are as old as Chessmaster 9000 we think is a good thing rather than a bad thing as you can see we have a track record of supporting products and caring about our products over the long term not just the first year or six months.

3.) We offer a disk replacement service for the cost of a disk and postage. This covers any potential issues people might have with needing the disk and damaging it on route. Sadly the disk check is their due to rampant piracy of the title which is hindered by using a original DVD check. We are looking at other solutions like online checking instead but this raises different issues which people might not like.

Finally I am sorry you are so unhappy with the game and that you don't want to buy another Feral game ever, rest assured we do always strive to make the best game we can and make it as Mac like as possible.

EDDDEDUCK  Please state your issues with Safari the only issue we know of is the support system needs javascript enabled.

About the game you can resize the resolution but the game defaults into a "safe" resolution on first start.

EDDDEDUCK  This issue (crashes no matter the setup) has not been reported by any other user on the internet and appears to be just associated with your machine.

We are looking into the issue but this currently appears to be an issue outside of Chessmaster 9000. Regardless we are following this up with the user in the support system.

About the replying, we have been at MacWorld and hence we have not been answering support as quickly as our support team was at the show. We also have been having issues with either our ISP or US ISP's marking emails as spam meaning that some end users don't get replies. This appears to have been solved in most cases now.

EDDDEDUCK  We released this version while we finalised the patch this was done due to the large delay in being able to release the finished and final version.

The reason for using the b2 patch twofold, as we gave it out to many early testers we know it is solid, secondly if we released this beta everyone will have the same beta and hence remove any confusion.

Unfortunately no matter how much effort is put in a patch can only be done when it is done and not before, I am sure you agree that you would prefer a finished patch to something that only works for some people.

The final version is scheduled to be available within the month.

EDDDEDUCK  Sorry you have been having issues with controllers, but trying to play a Racing game using three different USB devices is not a standard way of playing is not supported in almost any racing game apart from serious emulators or open source projects.

All mainstream steering wheels send all of the signals down 1 USB cable and hence are all fully supported by TIR.

In the case of Enemy Engaged although the original game allows only one USB device, we do have a beta patch that allows you to hook up multiple devices this can be downloaded by contacting support for details.
